Re: “Stop the Bourne-ness

Hey Billy!

As far as films go, it's not just you.

Modern day big budget films are really lacking something. You really have to go independent these days to find something decent. I agree with Grimmy, the latest installment of Star Wars was an exception to the norm. Although I haven't yet seen it, the new Star Trek film interests me...I think that film could be an exception also. The AZ/DC Family hopes so!

Re: “Stop the Bourne-ness

I just saw this movie on one of the XD screens at a local theater. I'm a devoted Jason Bourne fan, but I have to say this reviewer has accurately assessed this latest chapter in the series. It is long, tedious and boring with no contribution to the Jason Bourne franchise.

I think Jason Bourne should probably retire and get another job.

Re: “Dead on Arrival

"Ramis makes an appearance as well in one of the movie's few inspired moments."

But I thought he was dead. Wait, a dead star making an appearance in "Ghostbusters"...that got very meta very fast.

Unless, of course, they just pulled an Ed Wood and cut some old unused footage of him into a new film.

Re: “Super Crap

Don't buy the baloney. Affleck sucks, and his Batman should be committed to the insane asylum, Eisenberg IS the insane asylum, and not in a Heath Ledger way, so moronic is his Luthor character, and only Cavill as Superman is anywhere near normal, but even his character is dragged down by the portentous, ridiculous, movie. I didn't think that it was possible, but this film is even worse than JJ's Star Trek toilet bowls.

Possibly the worst modern super hero movie with such a huge budget.

What's up with that last incomplete paragraph Grimmy? It seems as if you borrowed it from the review which you did last week. Oops!

Re: “Super Crap

Henry Cavill was screwed repeatedly by Zack Snyder. You want a "dark" Superman, fine, but don't make him an angry, morose dullard who is incredibly STUPID. He looks like he wants to flip off the audience when saving Amy Adams. Would it hurt this douchebag jock retard to "smile" for once? Superman gets his powers from the SUN not a garbage can whilst playing a Joy Division boxset. The only good thing about this craotastic spectacular is that he gets murdered by a giant turd. Yep! Superman bites it because he's too fucking stupid to hand a kryptonite laced soear to Wonder Woman. 10 year old kids were facepalming simultaneously around the planet. I can take comic book clichés, but can we have a DC film without giant plot-holes every 3 minutes? This film was edited by the biggest Man Boy idiot-Zack Snyder. What was he snorting? Crystal meth off a urinal everyday at the studio? Guy compares himself to fucking Alan Moore in interviews. He should be ashamed of himself for inflicting his utterly lame-brained "vision' of two sawed in half storylines ... No payoff. No drama. No suspense. No buildup. Nada. Zilch. Superman is pummeled and banged by the biggest asshole director of modern times. Congratulations,Zack, your " philosophical" pretentious ,boring joke of a film. How hard is it to write a good series with these characters. Try building up to something instead of farting an explosion out your ass onto the audience for once. Here's an idea... Superman goes rogue/evil after a period of three films..slowly...the JlA try to take him down. Batman -the weakest member- is left to take him down. Suspense, drama, excitement AND emotional payoff. No, you'd rather pussy out and give us cookie cutter bullshit! You talk about being different than Marvel. Shut the fuck up and go all the way with your ideas instead of chickening out!

I know Adam West is still alive Triplem555. I used this thing that is all the rage with the teenagers nowadays, it's this fad that the kids are calling sarcasm. It's really fun to use when people don't take it so seriously. Have a super (get it, super?) weekend. DC

Re: “Super Crap

Watched BvS on the weekend and thought it was very entertaining. Iron Man 3 happened to be on TV the next day. I've seen it before and thought I'd watch it again. With BvS fresh in my mind, watching Iron Man 3 felt like a childish joke. And critics applauded that movie. Seriously. It looks amateurish. The dialogue is ridiculous. The acting is goofy. It felt like I was watching one of those campy 70s movies in comparison to BvS. And yet Iron Man 3 was from 2013. And scored high critical review. Smh.

Re: “Super Crap be fair, I would also want someone else besides Snyder to take on the JL films. George Miller would be a good candidate since he was originally considered to direct a JL flick back in 2008, but unfortunately that movie was scrapped. Snyder is an artist when it comes to making visually striking movies but comes short when trying to put everything together as a director. Imagine how beautiful it would be to have Miller directing and Snyder bringing his visuals as co-director. At this point it's obvious Warner Bros. is going on ahead with the JL films and Snyder directing them and it seems nothing will stop him. All we could do is hope that he somehow manages to give what everyone wants.
Saying that, I think this movie isn't either horrible or great. Horrible is what they have done with Marvel's beloved properties such as the Fantastic 4, Punisher (pre-Daredevil series), Ghost Rider and to some extent Spider-Man and I'm not even counting Howard the Duck and those other shoddy movies from early 90's. On a lighter note, Warner's and Snyder have stated that the upcoming films such as JL will have lighter tones. Regardless of its tone, even Ayer's Suicide Squad seems like it'll be a "Marvely" movie with smiles and comedic banter.

Re: “Super Crap

Hey...Bob here. A few more thoughts. The creation of Doomsday was hilariously bad. The pacing was sluggish at best. I detest what Snyder has done with the Superman universe. Cavill could be great but Snyder is suffocating him. I don't mind if Batman mopes and grumbles. It suits him. Superman...come on? Superman is gloriously naive and strangely perfect. Singer had it right when he cast Brandon Routh as a tribute to Christopher Reeve. Christopher Reeve was perfect, even if two of the movies he starred in were worse than this one. I know it's easy to dismiss the likes of me as a mediocre critic and all around douchebag. I get your anger towards us when we hate a movie you like. Keep in mind that I loved, loved, loved the Nolan Batmans, I really liked the WB animated The Dark Knight Returns, and I'm in the camp that loved Superman Returns but thought Man of Steel sucked. I just think these movies should be fun and exciting, even when they go the dark route. Nolan pulled it off with his Batmans, but Snyder (with Nolan's help) is blowing it. Come on? George Miller in charge of this franchise. This needs to happen now! I really don't like the listless, soulless vibe of this movie. Also...I just don't get what happened to Snyder. Dawn of the Dead awesome? Check. 300 kind of cool? Check. A nearly perfect Watchmen? Check. I certainly thought he was a good man to take over Superman. I was certainly wrong. Honestly, if they handed directorial control over to Affleck, I would be more excited. Affleck is a solid director, and I think he could be one of the best Batmans. He's actually very good in this movie, even though he's surrounded by dreck.

Re: “Super Crap

If any, I would blame the length of the film and the editing. According to online sources, Snyder and Warner Bros. announced there's 30 extra minutes of footage that didn't make the final cut and will be available when the Ultimate Cut Blu-Ray or DVD comes out in July. Add that to the 2 hours and 31 minutes of the theatrical cut and you have a hell-of-a-time consuming movie.

As for the reception of the film, there was a lot of backlash towards this movie since its inception such as Ben Affleck being cast as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Honestly, those two were the best part of the movie that even the critics agree. Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal as Lex Luthor is a hit and miss. However, ever since WB and Snyder announced the extra footage cut from theaters and the YouTube footage from the film titled "Communion" where it clearly shows Luthor in the aftermath of the battle speaking to an otherworldly entity, I think it's safe to say that Luthor's annoying, erratic and out of character portrayal was due because of this entity's possible influence on him throughout the film.

My best bet is that this entity is a New God from the comics that will likely be the total baddie in the upcoming DC films. On the other hand, I've grown bored of superhero genre since that is all there is in Hollywood. If fans were disappointed with the overabundance of characters in this film wait till Marvel's Captain America: Civil War or better yet Marvel's Infinity Wars parts 1 and 2 have in store. Infinity Wars is projected to have as many as 60+ superhero characters and I'm not counting DC's upcoming Justice League mash-up. For the meantime I'll stick to the TV DC and Marvel Netflix series'.

Re: “Super Crap

This movie was not as bad as the mainstream film critics would like you to believe. I agree though, this was a set-up flick to expand the DC extended universe. Having read the negative reviews for this movie beforehand, I went expecting less of the film only to later be surprised and find out on my own that it wasn't as bad as the critics say it was. This movie was definitely worth my $10 and I walked out of the theater thinking about the events that transpired in the film and what is in store for the rest of their sequels.

On the other hand, WB/DC ain't Disney/Marvel and it's pretty clear DC won't emulate the Marvel cinematic formula for making movies and I respect that since it shows that DC clearly wants to leave their own individual creative imprint in their DC comic book movies. I disagree with Bob though on Bryan Singer's 2006 Superman Returns. That movie was a total bore and letdown to real Superman fans who had been waiting anxiously since Christopher Reeve's take on Supes and instead got a mopey dopey Superman who was battling with "who's the baby's daddy" issues and a Manhattan-sized chunk of Kryptonite property. Seriously though the only good thing about Superman Returns was Kevin Spacey's portrayal of Lex Luthor.

Snyder's take on Superman happened only because he heard fans complaints about when they would be treated to a Superman who battles a villain besides Lex to finally show his Super side to battle powerful villains. Snyder's movies are not 100% spot-on but they aren't disappointing and they are far from being a Michael Bay film. It just shows when society has been dumbing down to the point where it's more entertaining to see a superhero throughout a movie making fart and masturbation jokes and a talking raccoon who's best buddy is a tree that say's and repeats its name over and over again when it speaks, but anyways to each their own.

Ultimately, critics nowadays are just as mediocre and useless and I truly believe the constant barrage of hatred this movie keeps on getting is because this movie dared to creatively explore a more modern and realistic take on two iconic characters who've been both consistently and inconsistently changed throughout the years depending on the comic book writer. Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy was good but it was far from being true to its source material, but I respect that because Nolan created a different and more realistic take on Batman. Critics shouldn't be so butthurt because of the fact this movie is making money and their reviews fell on deaf ears.

Re: “Super Crap

Seriously Rambow, watch the movie with a bit of depth, please. Your complaints:

1. Aquaman appears in it. Seriously. I guess you have something against Aquaman? I don't think that was a major flew in the movie.

2. You think the conflict was because "Superman could hurt people" haha? The conflict was because Superman is an alien with unstoppable powers. Hurt people? No no, he could destroy the entire planet. He could end humanity if he wanted to. And given that the world only came to know this Superman in the last few months, and all they know of him is a metropolis wrecking alien fight that killed and injured people close to Bruce Wayne, but don't really know his intentions, well heck, maybe that explain why Batman has issue with him.

3. Batman had a mother. Her name was Martha. She was traumatically killed in front of him. That probably would impact ones psyche a bit. On the verge of killing Superman, this alien, he hears Superman mutter "save Martha". All these memories come flooding back. Batman's personal desire to save Martha. And here is this alien, his dying wish being to save Martha? Wait, Superman has a mother on earth? Superman's #1 concern is to protect her? Omg, this guy isn't so alien. This guy isn't so different than Bruce Wayne. And Bruce may not have been able to save his Martha, but here he has a chance to save another mother, another Martha. Wow this just became a lot more real and a lot more human for Batman. He sees superman differently now.

Isn't it amazing the level of depth this movie has when you actually take a moment to think about it and use your brain. Hard work, I know. But it's worth it.

I'm just so sick of all this foolishly negative reviews about the movie. You don't have to like it, but at least have a valid reason to not like it that is actually based on the movie.

Re: “Super Crap

The movie blew. Aquaman appears in it. Seriously, Aquaman. The whole conflict between Supes and the Bat was ridiculous, "Oh, Superman could hurt people so not only do I have to stop him, I have to straight-up Kill him!" (meanwhile the Bat hurts/kills more people in the movie than Supes). And this lame justification to kill Supes is suddenly abolished when Batman hears Supes say "save Martha". That's it? All those insane reasons to kill Supes are just "poof", and now Superman's God-Like powers don't bother the Bat? C'mon man! Did I mention Aquaman is in this?

Re: “Super Crap

I thought the movie was fantastic. Intense slo-mo scenes followed by big action. All sorts of intricate plot lines scattered throughout the movie to keep you interested and always guessing. Introduction to the broader DC universe and set up for Justice League. Great score. And that ending. What an ending! Didn't see that coming at all and it was a very impressive and impactful way to resolve the conflict.

Isn't that funny, all the things that would typically be considered positives for a movie, you somehow decided were negatives in this movie. What a silly little review you did. But to each there own. For my money, I thought it was a highly entertaining film.

Re: “Super Crap

Wow! Surprise! Ben Affleck, worst (whatever you choose, but for this article...I choose) Batman ever. Oh, wait, that could have been George Clooney. I can't decide, both of them really sucked ass as Batman. Adam West is (hopefully not) rolling in his grave. Holy dichotomy Batman! Pow!!

P.S. Val Kilmer wasn't that great of a Batman either. Bam!!

P.S.S. Batman The Animated Series kicked ass over them all. The Dark Knight Films were fun too. Heath Ledger ruled as the Joker. Watch it J.G. The General says that you have to. (Inside Joke, if you get it...please respond.) Thanks, DC
