Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

So...If CW13 weren't so wimpy and had the ability to be a Superhero, would we call him Deflection Man? It seems appropriate, given his nature to always point out how Obummmer was the ultimate enemy of the U.S.A. Tell me, oh great Superpower, what exactly did Obummmer do in Iran that caused such a ruckus in your tiny mind? I'm sure the answer will be amusing because any answer you give usually is.

Re: “Libertarians on Public ["Government"] Schools, From Milton Friedman to the Koch Brothers to UA and ASU: an Incomplete History

Read the Diego Rivera article in ADS today. It exposes the ignorance of TUSD decision. One day after article exposing TUSD blacklisting of 1400 employees. It has become a criminal organization.
Expect class action lawsuits to rob us again by these educratic perverts.

Never has anything truer been stated. I guess Wayne Olson does get the big picture sometimes.

Re: “Editor's Note

How pathetic. You're the little weasel that was threatening to quit reading at one point when the Weekly had the sense to drop AAM! but you couldn't even bother to notice when the dude behind it announced that it would be no more. I guess that you weren't paying all that much attention to it as you claimed. The only valid excuses you have at this point would be prison time or being in a coma.

Crazy Al:

I don't think that you're an idiot, but the company you're keeping sure doesn't do you any favours. This article expresses concern about the Cheeto in Chief not having any decorum or class regarding a very serious issue. The American public has figured out that is just the way he rolls, but when it comes to things as serious as ICBMs, we need to demand that he act as a sensible person. No one, including the person above with the even more random and worthless comment than mine, has any clue what Kim Jong-un has at his disposal or how he is willing to use it. These are sensitive matters that require a sensitive approach, something our self-centered sad excuse for a president just doesn't have in him.

P.S. - Yes, you still got me on the fact that you had the opportunity to to see THE Guitar God in the flesh. I will not deny that I am envious. But your support of our classless, tantrum prone baby-man of a president is definitely nothing to envy.

After calling everyone else an idiot, I did not find your solution to containing the madman in North Korea.

If you knew anything about US defense capabilities, you would not have made such a random and worthless comment.

Your time may be better spent reducing the world's mean temperature. Or at least focus your fears on that.

I suppose I'm included in the gang of idiots. Let me put it this way. This idiot saw Jimi at Woodstock and 4 months later saw the Band of Gypsys at the Filmore East on New years Eve. That's something you'll never do unless you figure out how to build a time machine !! Just sayin'.

Re: “Danehy

Nathan, I believe we of the boomer generation have contributed greatly to the nation's well-being. First, with probably 100 million citizens over 35, we managed to produce Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as the major party candidates for POTUS. What are the odds of another matchup like that ever again? Second, and with apologies to Lewis Black, our greatest legislative achievements have been centered on the legalization of marijuana. Which explains why we got nothing else of note done.

Re: “How to Raise a Billion Dollars For Schools Without Raising Sales Taxes

Since I came to this state in 2005, it was apparent that, our prison system is in great need of "reform". However, with governor chosen puppets, such as Ryan, the states "go to budgets" would be harmed if such reform was to take place.
I have only read about it and advocated prison reform through letter writing the Governor (Napolitano/Brewer at the time) since 2005. (As an employee with the state, that letter got me a bullied meeting with the Director of Prisons, as, he did not like my letter, so he called me up to his office to "threaten me". (It backfired on him) Yet, we are still spending approximately 34k per year average for incarcerated individuals that, are non violent offenders, etc., who must serve 80% of their time prior to any "hint" of an early release. Add on any disciplinary sanctions, and, that inmate is in for 100'% of his/her sentence. Blah Blah Blah about this education stuff. My conclusion based upon fact; Arizona dont care about children. It's not a priority. Move on folks. Parents must involve themselves in the teaching of their children and not count on public schooling any longer.

Yes, they used to do Spring Training in Tucson, at the fields at TEP. Sadly, attendance was too low and so they moved to Scottsdale.

Re: “The Age of "WTF?!"

I'm glad that the usual gang of idiots (not including Shirley Willis) in this comment thread are enjoying everything that their Orange Overlord is doing for them.

But...

What good is all of that going to do any of you if the boys comparing their missiles decide to take action instead of just being all talk?

Let me answer it for you, because I know that you'll refuse to get it unless your Tangerine Tyrant isn't calling it fake news.

None.

It will do you no good at all. Nuclear fallout isn't good for anything.

So keep on believing that things are just going to keep getting better and that you have nothing to be concerned with, that is, until reality smacks you upside your ignorant head. When the area you call home becomes a wasteland, make sure to thank PO(TU)S Trump for that as well.

Because you are aware that all the record breaking happening in the stock market can't fix a nuclear winter, right?

Re: “Danehy

Here's the tweet: "North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!" If you think he's succeeded with his "won't happen" because a NK nuke hasn't exploded in California you're to deep into the Trump tank to be objective. Its obvious what he meant-that NK won't get an ICBM. They have.

Re: “The Great Doobie Debate

The only positives I see in this (hard to see any) are 1) It may force Congress to get off its collective ass and fix it (it is bi-partisan), and 2) Federal officials at the state level generally do not have the manpower or resources to do these things without state and local law enforcement assistance.

That can easily be accomplished by governors, city and county officials, and county Sheriffs just saying no.

Confident? Stronger? Next thing you know people will be standing up on their own 2 feet without any help from the Dems. People who don't need the gov't. to survive? The Dems will be hurling themselves off of rooftops.

Re: “Rich Rod Gets the Ax

Many male UA sports/football fans (at least the ones that don't already hate DickRod) are now reflexively disbelieving the accuser in this matter. This, of course, is a big part of the overall problem, and only helps to create a culture in which sexual assault and harassment are tolerated, or at the very least goes unpunished.

Let's be clear: Cases of false accusation of sexual harassment and sexual assault are rare. This case shows why. This woman had everything to lose, including her own job, her daughter's job, her daughter's tuition break, her own reputation and career, etc. She had no faith in the institution to address the matter in any meaningful way, and for good reason. Most big universities are run like corporations now, and the bottom line is what matters most. Big-time university athletic programs are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and universities often do whatever it takes to protect their brand and that huge income stream, including hushing up or even covering up crimes and misbehavior by their athletes, coaches, etc. Internal investigations such as the one conducted by the UA into this matter are usually a joke, just exercises in damage control and coverup. No wonder the woman refused to cooperate.

So rather than pick an internal fight she had no hope of winning, this woman tried to extricate herself from the toxic situation while maintaining her employment at UA, and got nowhere and no support. So she eventually left the university. Apparently she then was emboldened by the dam breaking on sexual assault and harassment lately and filed suit.

There are a couple of key things that must change going forward in order to solve this problem.

1. Men gotta stop acting like assholes!

2. When men inevitably do act like assholes, other men in positions of power must hold them accountable. It is not up to women to solve this problem, especially when it tends to be most rampant in situations where men wield a preponderance of power and women's recourse is quite limited (politics, big-time sports, corporations, Hollywood, etc.).

3. Re: this particular context, the culture of secrecy around big-time university athletics must end. It only serves to create an environment in which impunity is the order of the day, and it perpetuates all sorts of bad things, including sexual harassment and sexual assault. Alas, don't count on the mainstream media to help destroy that culture of secrecy. They're really just cheerleaders for the home team, and they long ago stopped doing anything that remotely resembles investigative journalism when it comes to UA sports coverage. They have no interest in breaking any story that would damage the university brand or the athletics gravy train, which pumps millions of dollars into their coffers as well.
