Re: “The Skinny

Anyone who wants to stop white, black, brown or yellow protesters is missing the point. All protesters are free to do so with the proper permit. And the "unite the right" March was constitutional protected people. Wake up before we all lose these rights.

Re: “The Skinny

She has a right to say what she wants. It's amazing how many people throw the racist word around. Is it racist to be free of feelings of " white guilt"? Do I have to apologize for being of European decent? You people are so narrow minded. The hate talk that is on here is just as appalling as a white nationalist march. Grow up hater.

Re: “San Antonio's Pre-K Program

bslap, I don't think you get IT, grades k-12 are all a taxpayer-funded "Youth-Sitting Service"; the age of the students attending school is not really the issue. A primary reason for public schools, and schools in general, is to provide a safe, secure place for our youth to be. Can you image what our society would be like if there were thousands of children (5 to 18) just hanging out around the house, the streets, parks, etc? Chaos. And yes, schools are also set up for learning.

Back to preschool education, baby sitting, the needs of our society have changed drastically during the past 80 years, as the result of the pill and equal opportunity for women, and technological advances, e.g.,dishwashers, frozen food, etc. Public schools reflect the needs of society. Society has changed and so will schools, and like or not, taxpayer supported preschool education will become part of change and our society will be better for IT.

Ally continues to be the poster child for crappy public service. When is she NOT making an embarrassement of herself and her constituents with her self serving, entitled, privileged hissy fits and lies?

Signed, Ally's mom.

Coward. If she doesn't want to do the job she should quit.

There is nothing wrong with white people adopting a positive view of their collective racial identity and working together to advance their common interests. We are now living in the age of identity politics for everyone.

White pride? Sounds more like white flight.

Re: “San Antonio's Pre-K Program

bslap I protest. Some people do like public education and TUSD and spend their/our lives trying to improve it. In any case Strong Start is not even about TUSD, its about preschoolers. I suppose if you were raised without using any public services as a youngster then you can be a bitter and selfish oldster now. But my guess is that that was not the case. We all pretty much used services, like roads, telephones (at that time) and other items that were heavily subisidized by taxpayers. To be so selfish about paying forward what someone paid forward for you is just downright egotistical and shortsighted. This is what societies do for one another.

Re: “San Antonio's Pre-K Program

Strong Start will never pass. It's completely insane to set up a taxpayer-funded baby-sitting service when our roads are crumbling.
Plus no one likes TUSD.

Re: “Sanctuary Awaits

Closed for vacation until Sept. 6. Seems like a funny time to print an article about a restaurant. "It's great, but they're closed all month...."

Re: “Paul Durham for City Council

"...and she received sustained applause from the audience (no one clapped at all for the two men)."
Is this how we judge candidates now? Now wonder we have a reality star stinking up the White House.
The fact that Felicia didn't see fit to vote in local elections until two years ago holds a lot more significance than any personality politics. And it's a deal-breaker to boot.

Re: “Your Indispensable Back-To-College Guide

... and when you do end up in the hospital after your best friends poured your besotted butt from their car and dumped you on the curb next to the emergency room entrance, devoid of your identification, wallet, underwear and dignity, please be kind to the healthcare workers who had nothing to do with your current situation and may have to care for someone who was shot, stabbed or has a more serious medical emergency, even though all your other best friends who enabled your alcohol or drug abuse are taking up all the seating in the emergency room waiting room texting and calling all your other, other best friends "OMG my BFF is in the hospital and they won't let me go back, and BTW bring me a large Starbucks because the vending machines in this place are SO lame."

Re: “In the Flesh: Tucson's March Against White Supremacy

The city basically got it for free. Perhaps they could donate it -- for free -- to the history museum in Columbus, New Mexico, where it could be displayed in a historical context, and replace it with a full-scale statue of Ofelia Zepeda sitting on a pedestal reading her poems to children.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2017

I find Huppenthal's comments and statistics suspicious at best, and often knowingly either hyper overstated or hyper-understated to suit his purposes. Having listened to him at length in sworn testimony, I know he cannot be relied upon to tell the truth or to answer questions directly. He always has an axe to grind. During his lamentable term in office, he deliberately ignored specific evidence concerning statists on test scores, etc. presented to his office. Therefore, I await with interest responses from a competent observer on the interesting data Safier presents.
