Re: “The Skinny

What a joy it was to grow up with Mike as my older brother! While Mike and brother Fred were close in age, I came along later in '43 and was nurtured and stood up for by my hero, Mike, who played baseball with me by rounding the bases on his knees to "make it fair". I watched him play football at Pomfret and tried valiently but unsuccessfully to live up the school legend that was Mike Hard.
We both owe the entirety of our life credo to our father Fred Hard, Sr.. As upstanding and hard-working a man ever was, Dad was a legend in the sailing world as much as the most respected of Wall St. traders. His nickname among fellow Exchange members and friends was "Honest".
Nary a day goes by that I don't find myself asking him subconsciously if I'm using the right tool, making the right business decision, tying the right knot, or cobbling together a mechanical device.
His sense of humor was unique, to say the least; one day while heading home in a fog from Fire Island he remarked, "Oh..I know where we are now...I recognize that wave".
Happy Father's Day, "Honest"

I really liked the article and your comments about the family who owns it. If I was in Tucson, I would stop by there and check it out!! That does not mean I would eat there EVERY day

Re: “Atomic Punk

People need to stop being so critical about others opinions. Just because a restaurant has good ole fashioned yummy comfort food does not mean it's a bad place, or that you have to eat there every single day. Same as bars, they aren't for everyone and drinking too much is bad for you. That doesn't make bars bad. Every person in these United States have a right to their choice of food...and their opinions, that does not make every other persons choice of food wrong...and their opinions are just as justified as yours. If you don't like the Frogs food, don't go there. I don't like tofu, but I won't put you down because you do. You can disagree a little nicer, and show your children that being kind is number one, not criticizing other people's choice of food.

Too bad you weren't part of the $1000 bet...that probably never happened anyways.

Beautiful! Stay lost in your chaos. I'm leaving the chatterbox less lonely Monday night. Drunk on displays of domestic tenderness.

Re: “Border Patrol Agents Bust Migrants Seeking Medical Aid at No More Deaths Desert Camp

It sounds like the ultimate goal is to provide medical assistance to those in need so they can continue on and break our laws. What do they do when an entrant is near death, fly them to a Tucson hospital? The liability exposure is phenomenal.BP saves lives and gets no credit.

Re: “Border Patrol Agents Bust Migrants Seeking Medical Aid at No More Deaths Desert Camp

"According to NMD, the group has had an unsigned written agreement with the Tucson Sector Border Patrol since 2013, with the federal agency pledging to not to interfere with the humanitarian camp that provides life-saving medical treatment to many migrants every year."

I find it hard to believe that anyone in authority at the Border Patrol would enter into any agreement -- signed/unsigned or verbal -- that is contrary to the rules, regulations and laws governing the agency's operations.

As for providing humanitarian aid, which is more humane: Providing an empty hope that those making this deadly journey will somehow reach their destination unscathed, or saving lives and returning people who have freely chosen to violate the law and borders of the United States.

Re: “The Skinny

I remember Mike Hard from my years working at VNB! As my sister, Maryann Adams, and I have said: Mike is an all around good guy! He was fair, kind and always shared his work ethics of being the best person you can be. I'm proud to have worked with him.

Re: “Atomic Punk

^It is also worth mentioning that the Atomic Frog has a couple healthier options for those who are looking for that. You can get a salad or a veggie burger with salad instead of fries, and im 100% sure they would customize anything on their menu to fit your needs. If you don't want that type of food, there's a Safeway in the same plaza where you can whatever food you're allowed to have.

Re: “Atomic Punk

@Current-Arizonan: thanks a lot! :)

@Nutritionist: See, that's the thing. You can teach your kid what healthy eating looks like, and once your kid turns 18, then it's nobody's business what s/he puts into his/her body except that kid. The buck stops with the parent in these sorts of situations, and if you acknowledge that that responsibility ultimately rests with you, then that's good. Atomic Frog is not here to act in loco parentis. They are here to serve people who want to eat their food, and those customers will decide what is in their own best interests. Tucson has a fun and diverse food scene. Atomic Frog is not the only game in town, so if you or your offspring want healthier options, you can always go to a restaurant that specializes in those choices, like Lovin' Spoonfuls, Govindas, Ha Long Bay, etc. Nobody's putting a gun to your head. People agree to disagree on food preferences all the time.

Re: “Border Patrol Agents Bust Migrants Seeking Medical Aid at No More Deaths Desert Camp

Once they receive aid, how are they processed? If they allow them to travel on to the north illegally they should be held responsible for their death. This is insanity.

Re: “No Thanks, Trump

Not true. And many anti illegal entrants are not anti immigrant. The problem with your reasoning is that for some reason you have compiled all of each side into one convenient group. There are still legal immigrant (hopefuls) waiting patiently in line to be allowed entrance, while those you seem to want to help jump the line, sneak under the fence and claim citizenship because "they got here."

We have a system in place, you have just been convinced to ignore it.

It is a private business that sells hamburgers and ice cream. This isn't the school cafeteria. Chill. The. Fuck. Out.

Re: “No Thanks, Trump

Wondering if these people who are so anti-immigrant are willing to go out into the fields and harvest
the many crops that these hard working labors do? Or wash dishes, mop floors?? These [so called]
illegal immigrants are essential to our economy. the only reason they are
[illegal] is because our federal government has become deadlocked and unable to improve our immigration policies.

Re: “Atomic Punk

If I could teach and urge my teenage kid to refrain from eating the type of unhealthy food that this restaurant offers to neighborhood high school students, then my future adult kid would thank me for having been a responsible parent. A person such as the foul mouthed mom above, is the kind of parent whose obese and diabetic adult son or daughter might one day resent for encouraging and approving some extremely poor adolescent dietary choices.
