Re: “Homeless Program Working

I read it Dan.

"The program initiated with $25,000 each from the City of Tucson and Pima County"

There was a day when that was called government funding.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

And yet they have to come to the US for care.

"Contrary to popular belief among Americans, health care is not entirely free for Canadians. Dental, ambulance and many other services as well as prescription medications must be paid for out of pocket or they're covered through a combination of public programs and private health insurance. About two-thirds of Canadians have such insurance."

"In a public health system, you have to balance the high desire to get quality-of-life treatment as soon as possible with the need to deliver universal health care in an equitable manner." If the priority is universal health care, Meyer says, there is a risk of wait times.

Re: “Homeless Program Working

It is interesting how an effort, which has been in existence for only six months it getting bashed by both left and right.

The Tucson Homeless Work Program's purpose is to give those who are homeless, the opportunity to get housing, medical help, job training through Sullivan Jackson and other programs that offer this. The point of the program is to connect those who are homeless and want assistance to these programs and services. The two people with the program, work with those taking part to see what services they need and direct them to those providers.

The article and report stated that 20 people are going through Sullivan Jackson for job training.

The Tucson Homeless Work Program is a first step.

The Tucson Homeless Work Program is not a government program, so it will need the support of businesses and the community, which will now have the Tucson Change Movement, with the parking meters and online website, tucsonchange.org, that people can make a contribution.

Cenpatico, El Rio Health, Assurance, Catholic Community Services and Old Pueblo Community Services, and St. Anthony's Presbyterian Church are covering their costs for this program. It is a collaboration.

Nobody is being taken advantage of. This gives an opportunity for those who are homeless to work, get some money in their pocket and get the help that they need, if they choose so.

This has been in the news prior to this article and yet these comments.

Getting the homeless housing and services is the point of this program. Too bad it has been missed by the commentors so far who allegedly read this article.

Re: “Homeless Program Working

Does this program provide an opportunity to get job training that would eventually lead to a real job with one of the sponsoring businesses or entities? HSL Properties, the COT, Pima County, Cox, Wal-Mart, etc have an obligation to do more than this if they really want to have a positive impact on the homeless problem in our community. Without job training and a road map to get these people out of shelters this is just a band aid at best and enabling at worst. This might be a good first step but it's going to leaps and bounds for us to get out the mud, so what is the next step? Is there a plan?

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

I'm from Canada - and while there's very little difference between our countries, the fact that we spend half as much as you guys do on health care (and get the same, if not better, outcomes) makes Canada, to put it bluntly, a better place to live. This isn't a liberal thing either - in Canada, every single seat-holding party in both the provinces (our equivalent of states) and federally support single payer health care, including the Conservative Party of Canada.

Why were we able to do this, and not the US? Because a brave baptist minister named Tommy Douglas (recently voted the greatest Canadian who ever lived by a nationwide popular vote) stood up to the government, insurance companies, doctors themselves and the AMA (yes, your American Medical Association tried to stop us) and forced the federal government's hand.

That's how you get real health care - by abandoning your loyalty to one of two political parties, and pledging your loyalty to your fellow citizens - even those who oppose you.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

Continue to ignore the fact that 20 million were forced into buying insurance they did not want, or paid the fine to keep from buying insurance.

Who represents them?

Re: “Flow Job

Chuck could have avoided this whole mess if he'd purchased the property when it was offered to the county for $11 million to add to the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan as open space before it was subsequently sold to Rosemont for $20 million. It would be interesting to see what the county has spent fighting this project since then...

Amen to the "keep right except to pass." Drives (no pun intended) me crazy here in the U.S. Enjoying your diaries and want to see you live when you return to Tucson.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

With everything that is going on inside and outside the Beltway with this administration, anyone that imagines they will play by any rules -- other than "those that rule make the rules" -- is living in a fool's paradise.

As for so-called Trumpcare, the photo-illustration used with this story is more indicative of what we can expect from those in power right now -- a lot of people dying.

Considering what they are trying to do overall with healthcare, Trumpcare's signature slogan could be "take two bullets to the head and call me in the morning."

Rosemont should be killed, it will drain all the water used by the growers in Green Valley area.

You could wait for the next president, but 7 1/2 years with out health care is a long time.

Re: “Flow Job

Yep, it's always the left. And those damn environmentalists.

Between the two of them, all we get are common sense solutions to the short sided greed that the wrong, oh excuse me, the "right", engage in.

But, hey, we can all eat money and drink oil, right MYOB?

Make sure you're the first in line to drink the tainted water if the Rosemont Greedmongers get their way. Who knows, that action may actually change what you believe to be true.

Re: “Flow Job

Either way the left will blame them. It's what they do. We have no money for street maintenance but we will fight business to the very death of our county.
