Re: “Gauging the Ganja

Thanks , Nick
There are standards of testing to marijuana that are being adopted in the pacific states. Basically the whole PAC 12 is a MMJ legal but Utah. Heck legalize hemp make it a exportable raw and finished products, the Mormons will jump aboard.

As marijuana market is now there is some very good quality product @ reasonable prices. I can still get a 1/4 pound of Mexican shag weed for $250.00 thats around $2.00 a gram. By the time all the crap is removed say doubled $4.00 a gram old smelly dry and basically big bowl burn. Who know whats in it.

Then you have the dispensary stuff which is always good to a degree. Prepackaged helps maintain freshness and quality as well as maintain product. The place I go dont have a on the shelf inventory sitting long enough to become diminished in ways.

However the Vap & oil industry needs to be looked at a lot better. Taking a line from Cousin Vinny the law of physics cease to exist in my home. This is true I can go to one of 4 dispensaries now and get the buy one get one free 300mg that is not labeled on percentages the leaf extraction done with solvent is like inhaling kerosene nice.

But the real trick is I get what I am told is 90% pure THC with a little flavor in 300 milligram cartridges. I go to Washington and here to my dispensary and the 250 mg pure oils I get fill up both 300mg cartridges that are one in house grown product locally grown and produced. YES THIS IS TRUE IN MY HOME I CAN MORE THE DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF LIQUID JUST BECAUSE IT IS IN MY HOME. I am blessed huh!

The AZDHS/MMj has oversight on testing for mold and pesticides and far as quality or percentages of cannabinols or types. I do believe that AZDHS/MMJ should have a lot better look at this vap pull in some standards on weights and measures of products.

Re: “The Skinny

I refused to be shamed or intimidated into voting for more money to go to the state coffers in the hope that it is given back to the Tucson government to waste again.

How many times do we have to go through this charade with the City of Tucson? Again and again they cry about their desperate needs -- frequently trotting the police and fire departments out as the poster children -- and then use tax dollars on pet projects.

This time around, they even promised that no "new tax" money would go to support salaries or other administrative costs because that is exactly what they have done in the past.

Here's an idea that none of the people who are paid the "big bucks" to come up with "hard decisions" and "smart solutions" have thought of -- set up a crowd sourcing website for the police and fire departments' support AND a separate website for the so-called road repairs.

I would gladly contribute to equip both the police and fire departments, but this city has proven over and over that it cannot fix the roads in a way that does not require a steady revenue stream for half-assed chip seal and oil-based cosmetic coverings that only exasperate the problems.

Lastly, and this is for those who have proposed this new tax, do you seriously think that THIS state government is going to give you the money back? If so, you have not been paying attention.

Hilarious, Mr. 13 Sir! In addition to being the champion in the Arena of Ideas, you're quite the astute social commentator who skillfully weaves acerbic comedy with a trenchant and ironic tour de force.

Re: “The Skinny

'We're hardly surprised to see most of the organizations on that list have a problem with providing the cops and firefighters with decent equipment to protect public safety or to fix roads. Most of them would rather see the cops show up on buses and the firefighters arrive on bicycles than spend another dime on the roads'

Come on, this is as ignorant an accusation as calling someone who doesnt endorse the military industrial complex 'soft on terrorism'.

Wow. The votes aren't even counted and the city is meeting on declaring itself a sanctuary city. I hope this new tax goes down in flames.

Re: “Ducey's 'Education Budget,' Part 2: 17 Percent of Schools Will Get A Big Bonus (Hint: It Helps to Have Lots of Rich Kids)

This should come as no surprise to anyone. How else are they to maintain the American plutocracy?

Re: “Do Arizona Republicans Want to (a) Dismantle; (b) Damage; (c) Degrade; and/or (d) Devalue Public Education?

"Parents cannot afford to drive their kids to better schools....."

I seem to remember something about busing kids to achieve racial integration. Then we dreamed up magnet schools based on proportionate racial improvements. But neither government nor public schools were effective at achieving a satisfactory outcome.

The only thing left to do is cut funding to the upper income area schools and fund the lower income schools at 150% of normal expenses. Then we can see how effective money can be in leveling the playing field. Would it increase success rates at the bottom or decrease success rates at the top?

I guess it begs the question, "can we only accomplish social engineering rather than providing a quality learning experience?" And then, "should public schools try to accomplish both?"

Re: “Got a Bachelor's Degree? There May Be a Public School Teaching Job Waiting For You.

The MVD I use in Pima County is not working well. It seems to have some of the same problems TUSD does with inefficiency and inadequately instructed staff.

Part of good government has to do with OVERSIGHT and STANDARDS. You don't get good government by slashing budgets and deregulating. A free-for-all, unsurprisingly, does not protect constituents from abuse. State level leaders cut funds, peel back regulation, and don't even bother to enforce the constituent-protective laws that remain on the books.

Arizona is going to hell in a hand basket and all we get from those responsible is self-congratulation and "data" that is supposed to prove that we are living in the best of all possible worlds, when in fact we can see from our direct experience that many functions government should perform are disappearing or being degraded through mismanagement to the point where they might as well have disappeared.

Will the next election solve our problems? Seems unlikely when the choice is between more-of-same Phoenix Republicans and those affiliated with our Southern Arizona Democratic dysfunctions.

Re: “Do Arizona Republicans Want to (a) Dismantle; (b) Damage; (c) Degrade; and/or (d) Devalue Public Education?

I have to laugh when I see school districts that have had to go to home owners for funding, that are held up as a "See, they're doing well without high state funding". That is smoke and mirrors by supporters of Ducey's efforts to kill public education. Vail is doing well because over and over, the voters in the district have voted to approve school bonds and school overrides. The district is making up for the lack of state funding on the backs of homeowners who value a quality public education. Kids who live in poor school districts don't have the luxury to do this. Before you give me the school choice bullshit, those parents cannot afford to drive their kid to the better school district on the other side of town so they're left in the lousy districts.

We are last in the nation in education funding. We are last in the nation in teacher's salaries and we are ranked 45th in the nation in education performance. Those stats can all easily be found on the web. No smoke and mirrors, just the reality of a state government that doesn't give a damn about the education of our children unless their parents are filthy rich.

Re: “McSally Declines To Take a Stand on Zombie Trumpcare

McSally is exactly who she was in the military. She never cared about the personnel outside of her inner circle (pilots). In fact, she pitched a fit in Afghanistan in 2005 when the morale hut computers were upgraded so that the people maintaining their A-10's, could communicate with their families back home. Her pilots had an unauthorized private morale area just for the pilots. Any efforts to provide reliable communications for others was opposed by her. That included her going to the group commander and pitching a fit over the replacement of old, unreliable computer systems. That was a battle she lost. She should have wanted those maintainers morale to be high and have reliable communications back home so they could focus on the job at hand. She didn't give a damn. Fortunately, we did and so did our leadership.

Re: “Got a Bachelor's Degree? There May Be a Public School Teaching Job Waiting For You.

John, the irony in your comment is that the MVD never worked better than when Phoenix car dealer Ev Mecham was Governor. As soon as the democrats regained power, it fell into total disarray.

And that is so hard for the public to hear.

Re: “Got a Bachelor's Degree? There May Be a Public School Teaching Job Waiting For You.

Response to R's and D's get it wrong.

I just completely disagree. Two weeks ago, I had to go to MVD to get a new Title to a truck I was selling. While I was in the legislature, I put in untold hours working to get better MVD service. Eventually, we got it down to an average wait time of less than 20 minutes. We put in comprehensive systems to improve service and speed. Not bad, when I first visited MVD offices in 1993, there were people in there with sleeping bags. Average wait time - 3 hours.

I was dreading going for two reasons, I didn't want to witness the degradation I was certain I was going to observe. MVD has suffered 10 consecutive budget cuts.

It was a stunning surprise. The office had put in a new wrinkle. When I came into MVD, there was a "cart girl." She had every form a person could possibly need. She was also able to check as to whether a person had all their paperwork in order.

From the time my hand hit the door to open till the door closed behind me - 16 minutes. The customer focus was palpable. It actually added value to my day everyone was so pleasant.

Who would have dreamed it? MVD - Motor Vehicle Department.

A friend of mine had just come back from New York. You know Nirvana for the liberals who inhabit this blog. She took a disabled friend of hers to MVD in New York. What she described was exactly what I observed in 1992 in Arizona. After waiting 3 hours, she demand special consideration based on the disabled status of her friend and got it. Before leaving, she witnessed one poor soul cursing the employees after having been sent from MVD to Social Security to MVD back to Social Security each time having waited 3 to 5 hours and still not having his issue involved.

Governor Ducey takes pride in working toward excellent service. He actually cares about it, MVD is living proof of it. You just don't need to have expensive government to have effective government, MVD is proof.

Re: “Got a Bachelor's Degree? There May Be a Public School Teaching Job Waiting For You.

What is needed is GOOD government: neither too small nor too big, efficient, effectively serving the common good, ensuring high quality service delivery, and protecting citizens from abuse.

Unfortunately, in this state the Rs seem to want NO government, and the Ds seem to want to continue excusing BAD government. We have no broad-based, widely recognized political party or advocacy group focused on exercising the citizenship oversight and public participation skills necessary to keep government institutions honest and responsive.

More's the pity.

Re: “AP: McSally Urges Colleagues To Vote for This 'Fucking Thing,' aka Zombie Trumpcare

Prehaps Abbie G should engage in some critical thinking herself before she accuses people of having kneejerk reactions due to a lack of comphrension about actions of Republican congressmen. I was well aware of the original provision that her link concerns, before I made my comments. Sarah Kliff reported it on 03 May, where MacArthurs office confirmed that his proposals would not apply to members of congress or their staff. Only after she exposed it did MacSally engage in an ass covering exercise by introducing her amendment.

Regardless of the this, the Act is effectively a tax break for rich people, and I suspect that MacSally is going to do very well financially from it herself. She will not be worried over insurance companies making insurance unaffordale to people with pre-existing conditions as she will have plenty of extra income to meet such surcharges.

Just to be clear many of you don't know enough about the actions of Congress to do anything but have kneejerk reactions. Did you see her legislation that passed?

Congress is losing their plan when this passes the Senate.

Re: “Ducey's 'Education Budget,' Part 1: A 25 Cents an Hour Raise for Teachers

I would contend that if education were the number one issue to Tucson residents, TUSD would have been closed by now. They clearly aren't paying attention.
