Re: “Meritocracy, System Justification and Mexican American Studies

Let me get this straight, David. You have in past blogs expressed skepticism that desegregation works, and have even tended to excuse American schools lapsing back into "separate but equal" schools as a way of coping with the persistent patterns of econominally and racially segregated housing in our nation. When it comes to discussing TUSD, our largest local majority-minority district, you have time and time again passed up opportunities to help build public awareness of inequitable conditions in the district's schools and you have repeatedly, vigorously opposed students who are being academically ill-served in their local public schoos being allowed to take their per-pupil funding and apply it in private schools that produce better academic results for the students who attend them.

Yet you believe that it helps minority students to learn of past injustices and know that they belong to a class of people that have been oppressed in this country. (Actually, though it is true that this nation has systemically advantaged people of certain heritages, economic classes, religious affiliations, and skin colors at different points in its history, it is fallacious that racial classes as a whole should be regarded as "oppressed" or "oppressors." Laborers of every skin color and nationality have been oppressed in this country, and in certain contexts, members of every racial category have been oppressors. From the dawn of time there have been wars and unjust seizures that have resulted in changed borders and dispossessions. If we really wanted to undo all the injustices, persecutions and dispossessions on this continent, we would have to remove all people of European descent, including descendants of the Spanish who intermarried with Native Americans. Then we might have to start weighing and considering who was right and wrong in inter-tribal wars among pre-conquest Native Americans. By the time we were done there would be no human beings left, just the animals, who, as, Peter Singer points out, have been much abused and exploited by humans.)

Returning now to your argument here, in which you once again play the Democratic Party trick of portraying yourself as a great crusader against racial injustice while conspicuously failing to support any specific administrative actions, allocations of funds, or policy implementations that REMEDY the problems in the here and now, you tell us you think it will help minorities self-esteem to learn that they belong to an oppressed and exploited racial class.

Personally, I think effectively eliminating oppression and discrimination and inequitable conditions in schools wherever and whenever they occur would help minorities -- and all others -- more. But some have a need to divert attention from real actions in office, real policy solutions, real funding allocation decisions, and real contemporary conditions in real local schools.

So they write blog posts like this.

Re: “McCain Returns to Senate To Push Mystery GOP Healthcare Bill Forward

And that is exactly why we are $20T in debt. There must be an end to this insanity.

Re: “Meritocracy, System Justification and Mexican American Studies

Another shining example of why TUSD and other so called public educations are mired down in idiocracy and mediocrity. It is truly an atrocity.

Re: “Meritocracy, System Justification and Mexican American Studies

Yesterday I read your thoughts on the MAS trial, then the comments. Today I read The Atlantic article regarding our belief that somehow we live in a meritocracy.
I zoomed back to post a link to The Atlantic piece, but you were quicker.
Here's to hoping your readers learn a few things from the study cited in The Atlantic.
And also, the MAS classes were taught in english, so how is that even relevant to anything?

Mizzer Lou

That's for congress to decide. It's their job, what they are paid to do on behalf of their constituents (us)!

There are other writers and I thought Seth MacFarlane hadn't done any writing for Family Guy since 2010, when he started moving on to other projects? Maybe one of the other writers hates it...

Who and how will this ACA be paid for, or are you content to just add more debt?

Re: “McCain Returns to Senate To Push Mystery GOP Healthcare Bill Forward

The answer to anyone's guess is McCain showed tremendous courage in joining with Collins and Murkowski to destroy their party's idiotic crusade against the ACA. Seven years later and Bozo and the Insane Clown Posse have gone down in flames -never had a plan only a perpetual bitch session.

Bad week for Bozo with the sanctions bill passing nearly unanimously, his new communications director going off the rails, conservatives daring him to fire Sessions or Mueller, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs rebuking him for his brain fart directed at transgender soldiers and the Boy Scouts of America apologizing for his politicizing their Jamboree.

I thought we had seen how many clowns could fit in the circus car during the primaries, now make room for hundreds more as the Republicans self-destroy. (And yes, I agree the Democrats are just as bad, just not as dangerous as the party controlling the executive, legislative and judicial branches).

Re: “Sticky Summer Nights

The grandstands and clubhouse at Warren Ballpark are primarily constructed of raw adobe, not concrete. It is the only such facility left in the U.S. There will be a rugby tournament there Dec.9-10 2017 and a vintage baseball tournament Apr. 7-8, 2018.

Re: “Cannabis Court

Is this not the issue in it's whole ?

The abuse of civil laws brought on by Clinton.
Profiling citizens into categories by credit rating. Then allowing the insurance charge rates according credit rating.
Clinton deregulated Banks to allow them to buy and own Insurance companies. Say "AIG" Invest in venture development.
Clinton Tried to stop Government entitlements to people that tested positive.
Clinton did this civil seizure thing till the rental/trust business took off. In the mean time during the raiding of property and wealth swelled police/prosecution coffers.
Clinton's bank deregulation and allowable accounting practices, conglomeration of all financial to be intertwined caused the crash. Cowboy Bush come riding out of Texas didn't help, but neither did congress.

I have been listening to congress C-span only. We are back to policing for profit just like Clinton had outlined. The opioid explosion since Clinton released Doctors to prescribe OXY in 96 for pain. Now the powers at hand says Legalization can carry the burden for ABUSE COSTS AND POLICING FOR

So many here think this is the position to go. The ADA "Arizona Dispensary Association" seemly endorse this route. Now we have management/nefarious non-disclosed taking control.

What would be the position of supply to market. As well as patient to market. Simple just like methadone control the market raise the price hide principals in trusts.

This is why it is in so many interest to keep in schedule 1.

While Danehick usually does suck, I must admit ... this column does not.

Signed, Danehick Sux

ps - I ran into Vern at Sprouts Market 4 or 5 years ago (right before he had his stroke) along with my father-in-law (who knew Verne 40 years ago), and the coach still remembered him. He was a high quality person.

Added to that is fact that many of these illegal entrants have invested large sums of money to be brought here.

It went almost totally unreported but Canada has found itself in a major cash crunch partly because of extremely high levels of personal debt, but their banks have had their financial strength downgraded by Moody's.

So this is what consumers do that don't have to buy health insurance, or are they over taxed?

Palisades are you saying that Congress is supporting Trump's agenda? Or did you mean until the next election after '18?

she has a chance of beating her. im not hopeful that congress will shift enough to fully undermine trump's agenda though after next year's election.
