Re: “Your Indispensable Back-To-College Guide

... and when you do end up in the hospital after your best friends poured your besotted butt from their car and dumped you on the curb next to the emergency room entrance, devoid of your identification, wallet, underwear and dignity, please be kind to the healthcare workers who had nothing to do with your current situation and may have to care for someone who was shot, stabbed or has a more serious medical emergency, even though all your other best friends who enabled your alcohol or drug abuse are taking up all the seating in the emergency room waiting room texting and calling all your other, other best friends "OMG my BFF is in the hospital and they won't let me go back, and BTW bring me a large Starbucks because the vending machines in this place are SO lame."

Re: “Your Indispensable Back-To-College Guide

Here's how the items on the list would've read when I was a freshman at the UA from 76 to 81. The following items would read pretty much the same: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 15, and 16. The following items would read differently: 8. Goodwill and the Salvation Army were pretty much your only choices, 11. We'd still go to the Loft but it was on 6th Street and Fremont (now a parking garage), 14. Student Union, 2nd floor, east end had big chairs and sofas and of course the top floor of the Main Library, 17. We'd go to the Student Health Center at Cherry and University (now the Sonett Space Sciences Bldg.) because it was free, 18. No one cared about your mental health. And items that weren't a thing back then-2, 7, 9, and 10.

Re: “Triple Play

Rick and Juan:
The law is that if you are a registered independent, you have the right to participate in any party's primary simply by requesting the ballot of that party. The city of Tucson's primary-election pamphlet (which came in the mail the other day) says:

"If you are registered as Independent, as No Party Preference, or as a member of a political party other than Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, or Green Party, you may vote in the Primary election [by requesting the ballot for that party]. . . . By voting for one of these parties, it WILL NOT change your political party status. . . . You may only vote in ONE party's Primary Election."

I'm amazed that people don't know this, but I hope this helps other independents.

Re: “Triple Play

Thanks Juan! Thought that was the case, won't be able to vote for any of these worthy candidates in my own ward.

Re: “Triple Play

Rick, as a long time independent, my experience is that you cannot vote in either parties, only in the general election.
BTW, I don't consider "independent" to be a party. I vote for the party of "me". If it is good for me, I vote "yes".

Re: “Triple Play

"Ward 3's roughly 18,000 Democrats and 12,000 independent voters will choose between three Democrats in the Aug. 29 primary..."

I thought independents could not vote in the Democratic primary. This is either good news or a mistake on my part or Mr. Nintzel's. I hope Jim is right.

"She also copped to voting for Green Party candidate Jill Stein in last year's presidential election, saying she believed Hillary Clinton would win anyway and so she could safely cast a vote"
She thought Hillary would win Arizona? She either doesn't understand the electoral system or doesn't understand politics.

Re: “Confessions of an eBay opium addict

No way anybody can be so strung out on pods.
It's not like heroin.
I did them for months straight, then I stopped because it was so expensive.
A little kratom took care of all the withdrawals.

Re: “Home is a Tenacious Heart

There is no shame in flipping burgers or working at a convenience store. She keeps saying that she doesn't believe in pan handling, yet she wants someone to give her a little piece of property. Show me that you can work for a year...then I will believe in you.

Re: “Political Punch

You're not just annoying the Left, you're annoying everyone. But what else should anyone expect from someone who has openly supported a really big and proven liar such as Trump? At least I know not to expect anything intelligent from you.
