Re: “Buzz About Town

Noel is a prima donna. He's not part of the bee community here. All about him.

Re: “Just Getting Started

Pionic is such a wonderful place! I envision this place becoming a gem of Tucson, and a nationally renowned restaurant. Scott's energy, passion, and love shows in everything Pionic does.
I think restaurants like Piology are fine too, but Pionic is OUR Tucson gem. It is the only restaurant with this concept that is native from Tucson.
Best of luck!

I agree with working class. And what happened to your new food writer, Mark? Was just starting to like his style.

Re: “West African Flavor

I went there the other day and it was packed out. It's amazing how only one person runs the entire restaurant and can stay on top of excellent flavors. Zul was polite and on top of everything. I definitely will bring my friends and family back to experience Zuls cooking and hospitality.

Re: “West African Flavor

We went and the food was as excellent as you described. I'm telling others to head over there- and don't forget to order that amazing ginger drink.

Re: “Just Getting Started

I respect that he keeps saying that you can get a pizza in under two minutes, but I've never had it happen when I have been there. Even a plain cheese pizza took close to 10 minutes and that was at an off-peak time. (Pieology on Speedway, on the other hand, theirs took 5 minutes.) No shaming here, just giving my experience.

Re: “Not The Greek Mafia

It's ok I guess, the folks from Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio etc., have to have someplace to eat.

Re: “Not The Greek Mafia

Gus Balon's and Robert's Restaurant share a heritage of family members who have owned those restaurants. They share something else. Good food in a friendly atmosphere with many loyal customers!

Re: “Not The Greek Mafia

Is it me or is $5.99 for a bowl of oatmeal a bit pricey?

Re: “Not The Greek Mafia

My parents and I ate there in the 1970"s.
I remember not really liking to go there. I couldn't say why, I guess I just liked Bob's Big Boy, Johny's , Sambo's, Hobo Joe's, Austin's etc. better.
Thanks for the info about the pictures of the family on the wall. Just yesterday I saw a picture of the interior of the restaurant. The AZ Daily Star had some pictures of Original Restaurants that are still open in Tucson. The thing I really remembered about Gus Balon's was a big mural that was painted on that wall. As I recall, it was a picture of a tree and water. I just remember studying it a lot and thinking of stories while we ate.

Re: “Not The Greek Mafia

"The bread, rolls and biscuits eaten in the restaurant today are the same recipes he was serving since the mid-19th century. It was Kelli's mom who brought them to Tucson."

You do mean the mid 20th century, right?

Re: “Let’s Be Real: Dominick’s Real Italian

WOW couldn't disagree more! I can only speak to Dominick's pizza because it's the best , in fact it's so good that I have not tried anything else because when I even get close to Dominick's I crave their pizza. I have refereed ton of people there and EVERYONE loves all the food on the menu.

I highly recommend Dominick's to anyone and will stand behind my claim of the best pizza!

Re: “Retooled

Aaaand another TW restaurant review where the link to the official restaurant site just redirects to the TW homepage. Fix it, stat.

Anyway, is this the place that was originally going to be a taco shop from Florida?
