Re: “Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks: Mirror Traffic (Matador)

"in which the slow ebb of competence ends at a dense literary text that demands to be read. "

What the hell are you talking about !!! How long did it take you to make that up ?

Re: “Bon Iver: Bon Iver (Jagjaguwar)

What a laugh. This guys falsetto is sooooo bad that when I first heard it I thought Tiny Tim had risen from the grave. C'mon....this guy has to be pulling our collective legs. This album is worse than the first one and I didn't think that was possible.

Re: “Fleet Foxes: Helplessness Blues (Sub Pop)

How can an album be banal and admirable?

And who really cares what you "admire"? You're nobody, and the members of this band are ascending in the music world as they keep producing artwork. You're producing fartwork.

You shouldn't be a music critic if you can't do better than this. Go back to your job at Kinko's

Re: “Lupe Fiasco: Lasers (Atlantic)

Lupe Fiasco is nothing but an ignorant 4th rate wannabe thug. He has continually gone on record in SUPPORT of Gaddafi killing unarmed civilians in Libya. This trash of an "artist" should be NOT allowed in Tucson! I call on anyone with even one drop of feeling, of honor of taste to boycott Fiasco and ALL businesses who support it.

Re: “Fleet Foxes: Helplessness Blues (Sub Pop)

Great review. Totally agree the class fantasies about orchard labor are weird but that, despite those missteps, it's sort of a wonderful record.

Re: “Telekinesis: 12 Desperate Straight Lines (Merge)

"Partner him up with Joanna Newsom, and see what happens."

Oh banish the thought. Telekinesis has my full blessing to write as many individually unique catchy songs as they want for they do it oh so well!

Re: “Lupe Fiasco: Lasers (Atlantic)

Thanks for the thoughts.... I would not classify Lasers as "danceable mediocrity," but of course these things are subjective. I don't, however, agree that something commercial can NEVER be good. Lupe Lite is fine by me for hot summer jams. And frankly, sometimes our young "geniuses" could use some editing, and some lightening up. He didn't have to sign to Atlantic if he didn't want to make artistic compromises......

Re: “Lupe Fiasco: Lasers (Atlantic)

Sean, as you mentioned, the public battle between Lupe and Atlantic is not news to anyone who keeps even a casual eye on the music industry. He grappled with his label for good reason and I respectfully dissent with your statement that his/Atlantic's latest release is "damned good" commercial record. That statement is in itself an oxymoron. It's way past time for the record labels to keep their filthy fingers out of an artist's creative process and released works and stick to what they know best, counting money. I dearly hope we as a society wake up and stop accepting danceable mediocrity as music.

Re: “Mark Growden: Lose Me in the Sand (Porto Franco)

I loved the band and their playing on this Cd I just don't like the way he sings.

Re: “Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam)

The version I bought has a different cover than the one pictured here. Damn. That's what I get for buying it at K-mart.

Re: “Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam)

Kanye is totally and completely flawed, but like a good artist he understands that music should reflect the messiness and chaos of real life. If it doesn't he isn't trying hard enough

Re: “Jenny and Johnny: I'm Having Fun Now (Warner Bros.)

I tried listening to this cd. Really I did. It's so bad. The songs are insipid. The vocals are comical. Thank god i didn't have to pay for it.

Re: “Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl: Children of Fortune (Self-released)

This is brilliant...if music were like stepping into your grandmothers magical attic, full of trinkets from vintage times...haunting melodies, lush compositions, emotive lyrics, stories of the bizarre and poetic. Amy's voice will entrance you. I love it!!!

Re: “Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl: Children of Fortune (Self-released)

Very good cd. Worth a number of repeat listenings . They are a very personable couple and love doing their music.
Buy this local artists. You won't be disappointed.
