Re: “Vote Yes on Prop 205

Sanctuary cities hurt everyone and contributes to issues other than immigration. You only have to look to those communities that are already designated as such.

Livier would have us believe that immigrants are cowering in their homes afraid to open the doors and answer their phones due to harassment, profiling, threats of deportation, etc. But this isn't true and she is trying to tug on our heart-strings with the colorful and emotive language she uses.

Prop 205 would severely tie the hands of our law enforcement, restricting their ability to do their jobs and protect our community. You only have to read the article above by Kunz to see this. Because our community is already so diverse that it is irresponsible to claim that the law is targeting immigrants for the sake of being an immigrant.

I have no problem with law-enforcement asking for documentation when placed in a position that merits that, for the same reason that I have no problem handing over my ID when asked for it. The reality is that there are immigrants who are here illegally, that does not make the human being illegal...just their presence in this community.

Do all of them pose a threat to our community? Perhaps not, but some do. You only have to look at #AngelMoms #AngelDads #AngelFamilies #TheRemembranceProject #Nomorestolenlives.

While I can appreciate coming here for a better life, there are proper channels for seeking a life here in America. Simply crossing a border and expecting it is not that way. Yes, we welcome people to America, but those who "sneak" across are already demonstrating a dishonest and "under-the-radar" proclivity to skirt the law. They are thumbing their noses at those who are doing it the proper way. To claim "asylum" when they just want to come here for a better life is dishonest and they are taught that this is okay.

A whole industry and system have risen to perpetuate illegal border crossing which takes advantage of the people and the system indiscriminately. People on both sides are hurt by it.

No, Prop 205 will hamstring our law-enforcement and continue to erode, while not perfect, an already compromised system of checks and balances and Tucson will be worse for it in the long run.

Re: “How To Improve Student Success At TUSD, Guaranteed

Hi David: One way is obvious, especially on the elementary level. Adequate recess outside is absolutely a must to relieve stress. Also cut down on the statewide testing. I have been in the schools and seen the anxiety of these tests put on the kids. Best wishes, Steve

Re: “Second Chance

The problem is we have two groups in this community. Those very committed to recycling who will do the right thing, break down boxes, put only clean materials in recycling containers, etc. Then we have, basically lazy people. They just throw everything in whatever container is available or less full. I see kids in our area who are sent to take the trash out. Even if the household did separate correctly, they throw all the stuff in one container, maybe some gets in, then they run back to play video games.

Apeshit:

I'm not sure which is douchier, your comment or your avatar. They're both chock full of douchebaggery, so it makes for a tough decision. I'm just gonna call it a draw. Congratulations on your douchiness.

Re: “Sanctuary

Open borders are great for the Koch brothers and low wage industries who want to get cheap exploitable labor. Keep it flowing so my stocks go up. Thanks.

Re: “Second Chance

Awesome that they're going to start enforcing for the folks that put garbage in their bin. Come on people!
It's also great that they are starting to move toward more sensible and economically efficient methods like composting paper.
And recycling glass is just pointless. It's literally sand. It takes up a ton of room and is worth nothing. Costs to transport offset any benefit of recycling it.

Re: “Second Chance

In a city with a budget of $1.56 Billion. We read handwringers about a $3 Million recycling deficit. This is less than 0.3% of the budget. Get a real story Nintzel. Oops, I forgot - The Weekly is not a real newspaper.

Re: “Tucson 'Climate Strike' planned in El Presidio Park

Caroline...have you BEEN to a reservation lately? Caretakers of the environment? I worked on a reservation for a few years and have driven through many and never have I seen more plastic bags, dumps, "dead" cars (leaking who knows what into the water tables) than on a reservation. This goes for all of them. What a myth! I am sure when they build the next Casino it will be environmentally friendly!!! hahahah!

Re: “Tucson 'Climate Strike' planned in El Presidio Park

Have you BEEN to a middle or high school campus lately? The kids throw wrappers, soda bottles (liters...brought from home), partially eaten food, taki bags, etc. in the hallways and outside. I used to take my special needs kids outside to clean up the campus as it was an embarrassment to me that the kids did't care a hoot. Let's have them take care of their own spaces first before filing their heads with false facts and that "going to a strike" (they haven't a clue what about). before they can "change the world".

I was as a matter of fact. I'd rather see what I saw than what you have to look at when you look in one.

Re: “Vote Yes on Prop 205

Passing Prop 205 is exactly what the cartels want.

Running with the devil. Pure evil, that's what this is. While they drug and kill our children.

Re: “Vote No on Prop 205

Trump 2020. Too bad libbies.
There have been more shootings and crime in Tucson as of late. Things are not safer. These people and their drugs don't make things safer. Migrants are not all bad people but they do allow criminals in with them. I am against crime and being an illegal immigrant is a crime.
You really need to seek treatment for your TDS.

cw13 I get called names here and I am a hard left progressive. name calling is counter productive. calling someone a name is easier then trying to refute what they have to say.

Re: “Vote Yes on Prop 205

Be on the right side of history. Vote YES. People always say, "How could the German people have let concentration camps happen?" This is how. We have already let it happen. Let's make sure our city does not collaborate with an illegal and immoral campaign to separate families and end asylum.
