I would dislike it too if I was a Democrat and this is the best my party had to offer.

Before my time, back in the real old days, in the 20's, in OH, women played BB in high school. Why they stopped, I know not.

"Please let the young women do a competent job ..."

I say the same prayer about you whenever I read your column.

For the record, my prayer has never been answered ...

Re: “The Privatization Movement is Losing Support From Democrats and the Occasional Billionaire

Washington Post Headline:

" West Virginia teachers union says it will sue over charter school bill"

Arizona ranks first in the nation in charter school choice. West Virginia, dead last. Zero charters.

The West Virginia teachers union is suing over a bill allowing three charter schools.

Compare: Arizona spends $8,000 per student. West Virginia, $15,000 (NEA rankings and estimates)

Compare Arizona and West Virginia 8th grade math scores from the National Assessment of Educational Progress..

First by education of parents and then by demographic:

Parents Arizona West Virginia
Did not finish high school 265 259
Graduated high school 269 262
Some education after high school 285 274
Graduated college 296 282

Arizona ranges from 60% of a school year ahead of West Virginia to 150% ahead.

Now by demographic:

Demographic Arizona West Virginia
White 296 274
Black 272 254
Hispanic 269 NA
Asian/Pacific Islander 316 NA

Arizona is two academic years ahead of West Virginia in each demographic of Whites and Blacks.

Allowing public education at charter and private schools is the easiest way to improve outcomes for student. Also saves money.

Arizona's $8,000 per student vs West Virginia at $15,000 is a huge problem. Money didn't improve results for West Virginia, it permanently trapped them at a low level of performance. This is a horrendous defeat for children in West Virginia.

A catastrophic defeat considering the terrible economic damage from taxing to no good end. Since 2000, West Virginia added 31,000 jobs. Arizona? Over 700,000 jobs.

Re: “Tucson Salvage

Thank you for your story on overall Tucsons and Americas small mom and pop motels. You wrote half but true details of the citizens living their life in motels.
Looks like you forgot to write the details how the drug and prostitution become a pain in the society and
How the motel owners like Jeegarkumar Amin are
Risking their life to support the community and country people! By their honest work, you have seen lot more at the motel how honest and brave motel owner like Jay Amin fighting alone with drug dealers without fear.
Drugs dealers threatening him and him fighting back with lots of courage. I like your report but try to write the whole truth not partial.
Also dont write the humorous and funny discussion between friends and people As a serious and shameful disrespectfull truth. Looks like as a writer it does not show your wide personality. Feels like you trying to show your expertise in modifying the truth.
Again you should keep the truth and humor separate while writing about people. As a writer you are hurting many people and their trust on you while they allow you to write the facts of their life. May be it is just a story for you to create more fans or become popular in news world.
At the end congratulations for your great coverage on peoples real life and your half truths.
Wise people says if you want people to love you
Win the crowd and Win the freedom
Nice report my friend!
Keep it up
Thank you

Re: “Danehy

Re:dsimpson I didn't mention bankruptcy in my comment but it was simply homeowners walking away when values dipped. The Reform Act was to slow the migration towards white flag economics by individuals that hoped for their own tax payer funded bailout.

I see you mentioning "the uneducated right." Don't lose sight of the fact that you are here debating others. And you almost accomplished it without name calling.

Plagiarism aside, I'd love to see " Sleepy Joe" run for president. The best part would be the first ( and last) debate. When he sees that he's getting slaughtered, he gets up and takes a swing at Trump. That would be interesting.
dsimpson- look me up in Nov. 2020.

Re: “Danehy

@Hard to Trump Trump: Your comments show the ignorance of the uneducated right. Most rocks have a better understanding of the economy and world negotiations than Trump does. And you obviously know nothing about socialism if you think that's a position or principle of the Democratic Party. And to @Change Isn't Always Good: the 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Act is one of the most anti-consumer pieces of legislation in a generation, and Biden's complicity should doom him as the Democratic candidate. And giving credit to trump any ANY REASON whatsoever serves to illustrate your ignorance as well. He doesn't stand up for America; he just makes a lot of noise and displays his buffoonery.

Cut dingleberries purse stings, that will save Pima county taxpayers millions in worthless projects. Until then, don't even bother trying to trying to encouraging voters to sanction raising property taxes and will keep the old statement alive, why should we give them more funds, they feel they have a blank check already?
I think it is time to pass a law that requires a vote from property owners before their taxes can be raised.

Re: “Danehy

@BuffCrone Your comment shows the ignorance of Americans today. Home values dropping had no effect on borrowers as they signed on to a mortgage and paid it until word spread that they would be able to change the terms of their loans. How many over bought based on their own ignorance?

I can only think of the laughable comparison of buying a tank of gas for your car, then seeing prices dropped, and going back and asking for a refund. "Buyer beware" was actually supposed to make us all more aware of contractual obligations, not dumber.

The mess we have with China, and Iran was caused by the old guard (of all colors) and Trump is wading through the sludge. I give him credit for standing up for America when many Americans won't stand up for him.

Biden is being drug further left by the new socialist radicals that feel they need to change everything. That is something we will all regret, because bottom line is, we have it pretty darn good in this country. Look at all the world that wants to sneak in.

Re: “Danehy

I spent five years fighting the heinous 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Act, which was written by and for credit card companies. Biden, the elected representative of said companies, fought tooth and nail for the bill and fought against any changes or compromises to it. It passed with a combination of GOP and Democratic support. The impact has been record profits for credit card companies, record consumer and student debt, the universal policy of hospitals to demand a credit card before they will treat you, the inability of consumers to discharge debt in bankruptcy, no relief from student debt (until Obama tried to help), and the deepening of the 2008 real estate crash as homeowners were unable to adjust their mortgages down to the current value of their homes. I will reluctantly vote for Biden if hes the nominee, but understand that he is a corporate shill of the first order, with a lifelong habit of voting against consumers and for their creditors.

Re: “Danehy

I honestly believe we have had our day with elderly white men. I own that... I am one. I do not believe that his penchant to speak, show vulnerability and act according to instinct can be faulted. His presentation is an honest representation of how he got to be who he is. That said, he is and always has been a second choice. It would not be hard to give anyone a pass in the time of tRump. I, for one, do not want to settle for a pass or a second choice. I dislike voting against someone or something. I want to vote for someone or something that I can believe in, aspire to support, and work actively on the behalf of. The time to shovel shit out of the Whitehouse is after we anoint leadership to ascertain a constructive use for the rubble left by the what needs to be the previous administration.
