Re: “Tucson Salvage

Great piece of writing, and the solution to a long-held question. I live one neighborhood over and see Conlee all the time. The descriptions of him, of his posture and his clothes and the impression he makes are absolutely perfect. Thank you

Re: “Classroom Inclusion

I worked with Cecilia Padilla at Holladay, and as angry as I am at Chicanos por la Causa for their support for the NO on 205 campaign, I have to give them credit for choosing her for this award. She is an amazing teacher and the kids under her care and pedagogy grew so very much! In those years she really was a bright star although it wasn't clear to me that she got enough credit for it. The school was struggling through all sorts of issues, and I thought that she moved on to a different district partially because there was a big pay increase involved. I could be wrong on the details, but I am right when I say that she is amazing person who passes on a feeling of love and safety to her students that is rare for someone with such high standards. Clone yourself before you leave, Cecilia, our schools need you!

If you do make it to Kingfisher, try the seafood enchiladas and the Hummingbird Cake for dessert. Outstanding!

Re: “Seeds of Conflict

Arizona has the worst rate for retention of ex employees of any state. The rehiring of retired any civil servant is simply stupid.

There is no company military or working government that does not replenish it's labor pool with young bright and given opportunity for advancement.

This is not the case in Arizona every retired educator police practitioner prosecutor will be clamoring for billing rights to MMJ monies. I would say we need young and growth so limit no civil servant retirees will be hired contracted consulted to be used by MMj monies invest in the future and the young.

Re: “Seeds of Conflict

New Mexico legalized by legislature. Exclusive grow and license permits but recommends and support community smoke lounges. If a community which is allowed to restrict use and sale then it will be excluded in the distribution of the tax revenues from Marijuana.

I read it as a way to combat the extreme alcohol related issues that plague the state. Tax revenues are given to primary education.

Illinois made anything under convictions 200 grams or under automatically expunged. Illinois does not use marijuana and the harshness of penalties to force plea bargains on other offences. Pima county has the highest of plea's per charge of any prosecutors office. Good Bye LaWall

SB1494 already is setting up the division in the department of Health Services. Ducey will give a constant unregulated funding source through this department.

Producer buy of bad products like USDA crop insurance paid by the user. Producers that ship to other states will be paid for testing and bad product reimbursement by this slush fund being set up.

Storage of product to keep highest product cost or donation of product and write off to be destroyed to keep highest cost.
No accounting of gift donations uses or contributors or cap.
This bogus board of billing bafoons want to divert monies for addiction while turning it's back on the most addictive products sold alcohol and tobacco. Want to give 40% to police for training and education now there's a fleecing " I was being educated on how to train"

Frances, perfect comment and very true. They are baffled that she actually is educated and knows what she is doing.

Re: “Democrat Kathy Hoffman Is Arizona Republicans' Enemy Number One

A wonderful person who is killing it in this office!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many folks in AZ have no idea what that means. It is such a foreign concept to actually have a qualified person in a political job, A job that takes an experienced, on point, educated professional that is ACTUALLY trained and ACTUALLY able to do the ACTUAL job they were appointed to do.

Re: “No Laughing Matter

Spot on with the formulaic plot construction, but I don't see many attempts to be clever. Maybe the blending of some of Art's delusional fantasies with reality, but a lot of that stuff was pretty well prefaced with the talk show delusional episode. There are subtle points, such as the social commentary being somewhat politically neutral and ambiguous, but still pointed and quite sobering.

I think the stand up aspiriations are pretty critical to understanding Joker's torment. He intends, even longs simply to bring joy and laughter into the lives of others, and is greeted instead with derision and rejection. Being a clown and seen as a fool is one thing, but as a stand up comedian there is no face paint and red nose to hide behind. Its just you up there, and the rejection and embarassment is far more personal.

Couple that with Arthur being off his meds and the mother's story arc, the revelations and subsequent disassociation with his identity as a well-meaning incel mama's boy, and I think we have the makings of a psychopath like the Joker. That might make the whole Norman Bates-esque mother aspect a bit more than just a rehashed trope. Without it, what's left for a back story?

Agreed 100% with the depiction of violence, it is sudden, visceral and disturbing, and is one of few things that reminds the audience that Joker is a villain. The unraveling of Gotham and its society into a burning, chaotic mess is not entirely his making, but mostly circumstantial. Maybe the "pre-Giuliani" state of Gotham could have been developed a bit more, those angry mobs did seem to pop up out of nowhere. Just a little bit.

Overall, I think Todd Phillips acquits himself quite well. For me, this is memorable, which isn't something I could say about any of the Avengers, Spiderman, Iron Man etc. films.

Loved this beautiful story. I grew up on Lew King and remember Jack Curtis (VIP, Spyders). Brian, every story you tell is golden. I loved your tales even before Bill Blake started writing columns in New Times.

She is doing a great job. If Betsy DeVos, Cathi Herrod, Kelly Townsend, and Finchem dont like her, she must be doing the perfect job. Keep her forever.

definition of hippocracy establishment liberals were against iraq war and syria (except war mongers who voted for iraq war for political gain. anybody care to name those liberals who voted for iraq war so they could run for president!) and now they are for keeping troops all over the middle east. progressives like myself and tulsi gabbard were against them then and now.
