Re: “Kirkpatrick: Time To Impeach Trump

C'mon Crisis, everyone should know that there is no working WITH tRump. Those who choose to work with him are either licking his boot or they're being cyberbullied on Twitter with the Twit's temper tantrums.

My guess is that you're too busy licking his boot to realise that.

Re: “Kirkpatrick: Time To Impeach Trump

Comparing Clinton's sexcapade with Trump's daily onslaught of dictatorial behavior is not equivalent. Clinton did wrong, but followed the legal process and testified under oath. Trump is far too much a liar and a coward to testify under any oath in any court. Instead, he brays on Twitter, and Twitter is not a place of truth or honor for people like Trump.

The GOP has become the party of crazy support for a mad criminal who will forever hold himself above the laws of the land, the tenets of the US Constitution and, more recently, racism. Defend his remarks and you are guilty right down there with this mean-spirited demon from New York City.

Re: “Claytoon of the Day: Barr Chokes Justice

How about this: Barr intervened to stop the Justice Department's federal prosecution of the NYPD officer who applied the chokehold to kill Eric Garner. Hence the very appropriate Claytoon.

Re: “A Border Patrol Agent Reveals What It’s Really Like to Guard Migrant Children

A couple of corrections. 1: If you arrived at the US border or port before 1930 (probably your family), you got a free pass. Today, it takes months or years to get permanent residence if you can even qualify to apply. Most are deported in a short time. Obama deported 3.5 million immigrants. 2: Immigration does not lower wages. 3: Nobody wants to, or proposes unlimited immigration. ...All of this can easily be checked. This discussion has been going on since the days of "Gangs Of New York" (the 1840-60's) It's been debunked by generation after generation. Sad we still have to deal with this Nationalist tripe.

Re: “Kirkpatrick: Time To Impeach Trump

Obviously Tchump has a criminal mentality and has surrounded himself with pathetic sycophants who, like him, believe they're above the law. He can and should be held accountable at some point, but I don't think it's all that important to do it now, just a little over one year away from an election that could remove him anyway. Hard to believe that Chief Justice Roberts would see this as anything but "political", whereas Rehnquist was perfectly happy to fry Clinton in his own juices. And there's no way the Senate will come up with a two-thirds majority to convict him in any event.

Usually I disagree with the craven corporate Dem leadership and their inside-the-Beltway timidity, but in this case, rather than putting Tchump in a martyr role that he would truly relish, I think there are more important fish to fry. With what is by far the most corrupt administration in modern political history, there are plenty of oversight investigations to pursue without getting bogged down in an impeachment circus that will suck up all the oxygen.

And the Dems need to go after Kavanaugh ASAP, before the plausible window for doing so passes. He is the most illegitimate Supreme Court appointment since Thomas. He is a dangerous ideologue with a lifetime tenure who clearly perjured himself dozens of times over the years, including many times during his most recent nomination hearing. He never even would have had the chance to be nominated, let alone confirmed by the narrowest of margins, except that the Republinazis corrupted the system and prevented Obama from making an appointment. Kavanaugh is a serial sexual abuser and an entitled little rich boy punk who thinks the whole world was made for him--i.e., Tchump hired in his own image. At this point, I think it's far more important and pressing to take down Kavanaugh than Tchump.

If the American electorate cannot muster the civic responsibility to take down Tchump in the 2020 election, well then, they will have the president they so richly deserve.

Re: “A Border Patrol Agent Reveals What It’s Really Like to Guard Migrant Children

There were more than 9,000 people on the infamous Border Patrol secret FB group when it was revealed, and virtually none of them were complaining about the hateful, racist, misogynist nonsense that was being posted there on a regular basis. That tells you all you need to know about the culture of the U.S. Murder Patrol. It's no wonder that people like the agent in this story find their humanity subsumed by the corruption and immorality of this quintessentially fascist institution.

The BP is a rogue agency. It operates outside the scope of civil liberties that we supposedly hold so dear in this country, employing warrant-less searches, racial profiling, and other profoundly un-American principles and actions as standard operating procedure. Of all federal law enforcement agencies, the BP has by far the least accountability and the highest levels of corruption. Not surprising, since those two go hand-in-hand.

When a BP agent can shoot a 16-year-old kid ten times in the back and kill him in cold blood, even while the kid is lying on the ground on the Mexican side of the border wall, and yet be found innocent by a jury of his peers, it tells you all you need to know about the corrupt society that enables such a fascist agency to operate with impunity. Too many "good Germans" in this country who believe the bullshit they see on Fux News and vote for racist psychopaths like Tchump, because they're too cowardly to enjoy the incredible privilege we have without being consumed by the fear that some poor teenage kid from south of the border is going to take it all away from them.

The U.S. Border Patrol brings shame on this great nation and betrays its fundamental principles of liberty and human rights, every single day.

Re: “Tucson Salvage

This is by far my favorite Salvage ever. It feels like Smith is challenging himself to go deeper and farther towards uncovering the heartbeat of this town with each passing week. Reading this is like hanging out with Steinbeck's blessed paisanos in Tortilla Flat. Bravo. I hope there are many more slices of life that follow de las calles. Smith has found his calling and now we all get to share in his rich, open-hearted vision.

Re: “A Border Patrol Agent Reveals What It’s Really Like to Guard Migrant Children

The BP agent sounds like a decent man trapped in a job that has turned into something he did not sign up for. But the culture of the BP is that they operate with impunity. They are instructed NOT to speak publicly unless it is scripted, or they fear loosing their jobs. This is not the root of our immigration problem by any means, but it is not a positive working culture for a nation whose foundation is based on the freedom of speech. Apparently only Trump gets to exercise free speech without consequences. In a working environment that lack of freedom and the overwhelming chaotic non response to the reality of this global situation creates a dismal and unhealthy level of employee morale which cannot be good for the agents or the migrants. We not only don't care about our neighbors seeking a better life, but we don't care about the BP agents attempting to negotiate their way through this shit storm. My country tis of thee sweet land of liberty.....What a load of crap.

Re: “Kirkpatrick: Time To Impeach Trump

That's great but do you think you could find the time to start fixing some of the other things you have screwed up? They did the same thing with Bill Clinton, and it has taken more than 20 years to hook him up with the Epstein arrest. Can we accomplish anything else in the interim?

Lest we not forget her quote after the election, November of last year-On working with President Donald Trump, Kirkpatrick said she can work with anyone.

Apparently that wasn't true.

Re: “A Border Patrol Agent Reveals What It’s Really Like to Guard Migrant Children

I think we have no idea how bad things really are at the border.
Our border patrol officers are being used to "take care of" this
horrible situation of people being held in awful conditions. They
were not hired or trained to be "guards" and watch over a camp for months and months...Although I certainly feel for the people in
the "camps" we should be letting people know that the situation for them when they come is not good, we are overwhelmed....
People with a career that has tragedy associated with it, Doctors, Nurses, soldiers, etc , they have to find a way to cope with the
horror. Sometimes it comes out in really inappropriate ways, others
try to block it out. Is it any wonder there have been a number of
suicides by border agents? That needs to be looked into.
Something needs to be done, and not at the expensive of finding
a few scapegoats to show to the media as "bad border agents"
The immigration system must change. I am proud that My father was an immigrant and he became a citizen.

Re: “Tucson Salvage

Losers. Yes. If you notice a running theme, their troubles start when their own fucked up families can't care for them anymore. Love them, sometimes. Care for them, no. And the cycle continues. So a challenge for you all. If you'd like to rid the world of all the adult losers who we all despise, mock and judge, just take a moment to not shit on the kids in our society. No matter how gross and mean they seem to you. Don't shit on them. Help them out the next you're voting for funding for mental health care, school services, food banks, Planned Parenthood, drug programs or just not being a shit in general. Don't do it for them. Do it for yourself so you won't have to even think of all those losers anymore.

Re: “Hard Lessons

Excellent article. However, what is extremely crucial to explore is how teachers don't live in a vacuum; although we feel like we do because the responsibilities of a compassionate teacher-like our summer monsoon thunderstorm winds-are just so overwhelming. As working class people-who happen to be among the most highly educated of all professionals-we must also contend with the health care crisis. I know firsthand that the so-called "pay raise" from the Red for Ed movement has been totally erased by my having to pay escalating health care insurance "deductibles." These "health insurance co-payments" have actually set me back in terms of annual salary! So the AZ state government along with their collaborating, self-serving local school administrators (whom often "make" from 80, 90, to 100 K+ a year) have effectively employed "smoke and mirror" tactics to take money from my left pocket, and tout how much they are putting into my back pocket, all the while taking even more from my right pocket! It's a classic "shakedown"; a game of give and take, with most politicians and their corporate puppet-masters, and Pontius Pilate "there's nothing I can do about it-it is government policy" administrators taking, and all the rest of us giving. The most profound tragedy is that poor hungry children in Arizona are compelled to eat the rotten fruit of our cynical, corrupt and criminal political and economic system. It is a slithering, embracing old vine-of-a system that is smothering and choking the life out of our public schools. It is an evil and reactionary killer-weed; the seed of which is a culture that rewards glorified selfishness and corporate/capitalist greed.
