Re: “The Koch Brothers Are Spending Money To Make Arizona's Education More To Their Liking

Might "their liking" be effective education? Education that actually prepares a young person for the real world? Unlike the socialist pap being taught in TUSD today.

As a nation, we desperately need to move beyond lying, cheating, back room deals, and undermining the democratic process. Trump is one problem, but the Dems need to face the fact that since the Clintons pushed and weaseled their way into power, the "Democratic" party has made itself a very, VERY large part of the problem with the political process in America:

Re: “Guest Opinion

Steve, you started your political life with a lie and then you have hidden behind the shirttails of all the old tired Tucson Demorats raising taxes at every chance you could get. You've help build monorails that run empty to nowhere, an expensive downtown that no citizens other that the rich, out of town visitors, or ignorant UofA students want to go to. You've promised street repairs which never happen and demanded we give up our 2nd amendment rights, and you've even defied State Laws for you pet peeves. You only represent those that have twisted liberal views such as your and you have never in your life been a conservative. You are just another ignorant tax and spend twit. Let some with big boy pants step and turn the horrendous city government around.

It's a year later and Jim, you have been proven 100% correct. Yet another lie from our Commander-in-Blather Trump. The trolls were wrong, you were right. The world still turns. And it's round.

Re: “Guest Opinion

Conscience dictates that one would be more horrified by the continuation of promoting liberal progressive ideology that is failing in every aspect of society. Instead of screaming "Koch Bros, Koch Bros", try doing some thinking on your own. And learn to accept the fact that the poor will never run the country. No matter how much you cry about it.

Re: “Guest Opinion

I think both Safier and McKenna protest too much. I'm simultaneously heartened that the there is some level of debate and awareness in such matters at the UA and horrified at the Koch's continuing attempts to influence universities, which is well documented by this time. I think if Safier stuck with the latter argument, there would be a solid story to cover here. But the point of journalism now being to sell papers/adverts, I notice TW likes to rouse the rabble in both directions...I assume TW pays better than the Sentinel, so you can't blame them for writing hot articles and staying employed I guess...

Re: “Extract Excitement

I know dozens that have grown and kept so even during legalization. A few still do not for sale because price, Most stopped because they want and support dispensaries and the MMJ program. Even though modern equipment is so productive and done right can yield good amount cheaply, if you dont account for time.

It seems we dont have a target or definitive director of consumer advocacy in Arizona for MMJ. It is not in the Dept of Health to defend the laws just implement them in a safe consumable or declared risks. Pop 205 was the same it allowed for each and every county to write their own ordinances.

Is this not up to the Atty gen. Cant the MMJ program use some of the monies in the Dept of Revenue MMj accounts about 20 million now. To represent the citizen of equal protection on how the law is implemented?

Re: “The Skinny

Most voters favor lowering immigration levels. Flake favored keeping them at the currently very high rates. He quit because he knew he was going to lose. Then he made a speech to make it look like it was the courageous thing to do. Only a politician could manage that.

Re: “Guest Opinion

The writer pretty well rebuts his own claims by his inability to conceal his polemical disdain for counter-libertarian ideas.

And while it is possible that he is not aware of the close ties between the Kendricks and the Kochs, it is not a well kept secret that Randy Kendrick is a central player in the Koch Donor Network. She is also the person that bankrolled APS to disadvantage solar power against dirty technologies, a favorite issue for the Kochs.

A simple Google search of "Koch" and "university" reveals lots of reporting on this topic.

Re: “'Arizonans United for Health Care' Wants You to Know, Healthcare Signups Begin Nov. 1, and You Can Get Help With Your Application

Contra the right, granting or withholding health care should not be part of "labor discipline."

But the Democrats solution falls far short of what a genuine solution would be: no health care should be provided through employers, with collective bargaining for rates, poor coverage for employees at small firms, and constant switching from one plan to the next chasing cost savings. The existence of that widespread reality within the private sector is what makes ACA a debacle: it is a sideline business, an exception to the rule, a safety net for those who fall off the high wire of the main game in town. And throughout the system there is siphoning off of substantial profits for insurers and pharmaceuticals.

Health care will not work unless it is single payer. Insurance makes no sense unless the pool is large enough for the actuarial tables to work. Everyone must be required to pay in at the same rate (which will be a lower rate if we don't allow people to opt out when they don't think they need it). This would eliminate the pervasive problem of chiseling out those with pre-existing conditions." EVERYONE pays in from the time they begin working, everyone gets the support they need if they happen to be the statistical outlier who gets a condition that is expensive to treat. And the insurance companies and pharmaceuticals get no cut.

People who cannot find private employment should be required to participate in job corps programs similar to the WPA in exchange for continued coverage. There is plenty of public-benefit work that needs to be done, for example in maintaining or repairing our dangerously deteriorating infrastructure and public services. Not long ago a major freeway bridge collapsed in the Midwest, killing many and damaging more. Entirely preventable.

Is this a first world country? The wealthiest country in the world? A CIVILIZED country? You wouldn't know it from looking at the way we maintain our public-access spaces or the quality of our public services and infrastructure. And you wouldn't know it from how we treat our citizens. What happens here -- on domestic airlines, in our schools, in our prisons, in our courts, on our roadways, in our health "care" system -- looks increasingly like barbarism. And the Democrats, who have entirely lost their souls, try vainly to promote themselves to the desperate, misled public by offering "barbarism lite," barbarism "with a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down.

No genuine alternatives, no sane and citizen-centered (rather than corporate-centered) programs.

Will the next election bring more of same? It seems likely, and more and more like we have truly and permanently lost our way. The problem is with what America loves, what it worships, which showed itself clearly for what it was in the leadership candidates put forward by both parties in 2016.

Re: “The Weekly Take: As Khalil Tate Thrives, Attendance Dives

My opinion/thoughts on why people aren't going to the football games-including the most common complaints I have heard-
The music/ PA system is too loud - the UA Band doesn't/ isn't allowed to play to get crowd the crowd pumped up - its the canned music that's too loud- the ticket prices are too much- Friday games are unwanted-late starts are the worst-food and drink prices are ridiculous-the parking-the discontinuation of the Buses to the UA...etc.
Most of those are all easily solved if somone at UA would just pay attention to comments made by UA fans...The game has certainly become better and more exciting in the last few games. UA IS WINNING and fans should be pouring into the stadium...Generally sports is an escape, a way to let off energy, to show how you feel about the home team, commrodorie with other fans..etc.
Now everything seems so political..so decisive,
Tainted by the NFL, domestic violence, the possibility of a mass shooting, bombing... it just doesn't Seem so fun to gather together anymore. That's really a shame, and I feel badly for the Coaches and players that have worked hard.

You have a right to your health. You have a right to keep the fruits of your labor. You do not have a right to force doctors and nurses to work for you for free.

Re: “The Weekly Take: As Khalil Tate Thrives, Attendance Dives

Show the game on slight tape delay for the TV audience so they can get all their commercials and let us watch the game. Seriously, who is going to a 4 hour games with a 5 minute delay for Chevy commercials every time the ball turns over?
And turn down the PA system. It's WAY too loud and it's not good enough quality to be that loud.

David, why not call it like it is. This is the democratic party in Tucson. Their goal is to do anything they can to blame Trump and republicans for everything wrong with their lives.

I still want to know how they pay a $10,000 deductible after getting "affordable" health care. Obama made this mess.
