Re: “Ed Sec Betsy DeVos on School Choice, College Costs

That's amusing.

You are calling me a troll?

So, now I am the person who attacks Mr. Safier anytime he posts something?

Trolling is as trolling does.

Learn what a troll is, what they do and what they're all about... before you leave enough commentary to cover the article posted and then some.

Go back to ADI bitch. They love people like you.

Re: “Student Housing Shakedown

"Former state lawmaker Demion Clinco, now serving as executive director of the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation, said that the developers are not from Tucson and their project would take income away from locals who rent to students. His comments were met with emphatic applause."

This is hilarious. Why exactly should students have to subsidize slum lords who are happy to leave there asbestos filled, swamp cooled blight in a perpetual state of neglect? Maybe this will force them to lower prices or improve there homes.

Sorry, but this is the kind of development that we need. Its in a high density, walk-able area close to UA. Tucson is a city of million people not a glorified retirement community and its time we start acting like it.

Re: “It's Going to Be an Education Election in Arizona

I wish that what you wrote about was education. But let's be honest. You write about money. Money and hatred of those in power that control the money. Money is not the major problem in the public schools. Why not find out what the problem is and write about that? Lord knows we have spent literally tons of money, and it has gotten worse.

Re: “Danehy

Franken should not have resigned. He was a champion for women's rights. The women that complained were probably paid by Trump to say it. And so what if a couple got their feelings hurt. We let Bill Clinton get away with it because the economy was doing so good, and our party agreed. And now the conservative democrats have turned against him. Stay strong Mr Franken, We can make you an Ambassador to Saudi Arabia once we dump Trump. Or maybe even Libya.

Re: “Danehy

Flake liked to have it both ways. In words and print, see his NY Times Opinion piece about his father's passing and the gentleman the family hired as a ranch hand, who eventually became part of the family. Touching story...Most likely this was an undocumented person. Flake almost seemed like he cared for the ranch hand. He seemed fair, intelligent, and sane in these current political times. But simply look at his voting record. He sides with our baby president over 90 percent of the time. Good riddance.
Also, although I am more liberal than most, good riddance to Al Franken. He screwed up...just like our baby president. Both need to be replaced by new blood who act on ethics, morals, and truth. Clean house and senate of liars, and greedy corporate !*#*suckers, whose only interest is lining their pockets with money. I don't even want to discuss Roy Moore, the pediphille who has the cojones to invoke the bible as rationale for his sins!

Al Franken just resigned and helped MAGA. Trump is letting these guys drain their own swamp creatures. How great is this?

In case you hadn't noticed:

Just about 3/4 of government services and entitlements are failing, miserably, and can not continue to be abused, defrauded and mismanaged. It will come to an ugly end if we don't face it.

Re: “The New, New Jim Crow

Betts, ASU used government money to accomplish this:

Arizona State University is undergoing a $10 million upgrade to its Memorial Union in Tempe. Other renovations include new pool tables, dining areas and better accessibility. (Photo by Michelle Minahen/Cronkite News)
The additions were part of a $10 million upgrade to the facilities. Other renovations included new pool tables, dining areas and better accessibility.

ASU is a very inclusive university, and so weve got a lot of faiths represented across the student body, Nevel said. Its important to recognize that and to be sensitive to that and appreciate their desires.
$10 million to appreciate their desires? That makes me wonder if your whole agenda is anti faith and pro public schools. Did you oppose this action by ASU?

" Ayn Rand mentality that the government is, per se, evil ..."

Ayn Rand argues that government is good. Her philosophy of Objectivism champions a vigorous, focused, unwavering government. It's function clear: to protect the individual rights of life and property of each citizen, and to protect the nation from threats.

Her condemnation is reserved for 1) anarchism; 2) collectivism; 3) theocracy

Re: “Mindful Minimalism

If you had the marinara & loved it, I respect your experience but here is mine that I lifted from my Yelp review: Well, only 8 reviews & all 5 stars, so what can I say? I guess I'm from an alternate universe. First of all the pizza we had totally sucked, but since we only had the bianca, maybe the 2 others are really good. It'a about a 12" pizza for $13 & most of it is crust, so that's a deal killer right off. Unfortunately it gets worse. Prosciutto is FIVE DOLLARS extra & I'm not kidding, you get maybe 1/10th of an ounce. The other ingredients are fresh mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, olive oil, basil, & chiltepin. Whatever the cheese was it was tasteless. We need to come up w/a word that denotes something below bland to describe it. Didn't really notice the garlic & the chiltepin was sparse as it was just barely noticeable. People we were with ordered the focaccia. For $6 we got what we already had too much of, which is pizza dough. That's it. Bread for $6. Oh, & it had that tasteless cheese sprinkled on it. 4 of us & we didn't even finish it. We also got some roasted squash & everyone agreed that was pretty darn good. Had the flourless almond cake for dessert. I thought it was good but I don't go out to eat for dessert. My wife ordered it & she thought it was totally ordinary. Anyway the squash & cake bumped it up from1 star to 2.

Re: “The New, New Jim Crow

Im not going to address everything youve referenced here, Betts Putnam-Hidalgo, except to say that when a few token voices crying in the wilderness do the advocacy work with the district that needs to be done, it is easy for the powers that be to isolate and dismiss them. Advocacy work like the important work you do needs to be backed by the party at large. Has your party backed you as you call attention to problems in the district that need to be addressed? No. They have ignored you or opposed you or they have written checks to other, less worthy candidates as they sat on their asses and pontificated about the beauty of public education while they do none of the citizen advocacy tasks that keep local schools from descending into dysfunction. Much easier to do than attending Board meetings or demonstrating outside of 1010, which is often what really needs to be done.

I am sorry about the things you have written that try to lump every freedom of religion argument in with the worst of them. They are not all the same, and the tone deafness of your faction when it comes to hearing what people of faith have to say or understanding what their institutions have to contribute to the common good is unfortunate. It weakens the movement for economic justice in this country, as I have written elsewhere.

I wish you well but in my assessment, your reform-TUSD cause is a lost one. So, more broadly, is the district school monopoly on the use of public funds for education. Those of you who still favor it can get together in forums like this and reinforce one anothers ideas and anti-religious biases, but the monopoly has been broken and it wont be returning. And that is all for the best for the cause of JUSTICE, as far as Im concerned.

Re: “A ‘Dreadful’ Tax Plan

Interesting article. How are we going to "make America great again" by slashing government? Who is going to fix our roads? In the 1950's with high taxes we built the greatest highway system in the world. Now the Chinese are taking that challenge, their New Silk Road, infrastructure upgrade, high speed trains. This is what makes an economy efficient, not tax cuts.

My political satire, entitled "Taking the Tea Party Republican Tax Pledge", is on YouTube. Here is the link
