Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

Considering obamacare was given an illegal infusion by obamantion from medicare and the Treasury Department and the fact that it is not self sustaining, I'm sure obamacare only has a little while to live because I'm sure Trump will not do that again. So you never Trumpers it will eventually come down to Trump care or no care. You better pick soon or like Trump says, he will leave it to die.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

Minor point, but details are important: Mitch McConnell is not the "Senate President." By virtue of the Constitution, that title belongs to Mike Pence. For succession purposes, it is important to note that the President Pro Tempore (usually "pro tem") of the Senate is Orrin Hatch. If Trump were to leave office, and somehow Pence and Paul Ryan were eliminated from the succession by resignation, impeachment, or death, the next person in line would be Orrin Hatch.

Brrr. I just had a cold chill at that possibility.

Mitch McConnell is the majority leader of the Senate.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

Well said by the above, but we still need about 5 people from each party to negotiate the solution. What a tragic chapter in over reach by the federal government. Once again.

Re: “Trumpcare Is Dead

The Republicans have been foolish and divided. With seven years to craft a replacement, they did nothing. However, at the end of the day, this may turn out to be a good thing.

The ACA was designed to fail under it's own weight. Of course, the Democrats thought that they would still be in charge when that happened, and could shove single payer down our throats.

What should happen now is to let the ACA fail, as it was designed to, and then craft a minimal set of changes to the law designed to force the healthcare industry to right itself. There will be weeping and wailing and knashing of teeth by the industry, but they will adjust. We can not continue to feed the beast.

And you need to give up. 6 years of annoying the Left around here and no sign of quitting. At least I stick with one name.

Re: “Political Punch

You are correct. Trump can't even keep what lie he is telling straight. It will be absolutely terrifying when he lies about war, diplomacy, or an "incident" justifying war. And many young people will pay the price for his lies. History will judge those few voters In Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania who pushed him into the electoral college, very harshly, and the majority of voters to the tune of almost four million, very nicely.

Re: “A River Ran Through It

We need to make sure we get this natural source of water flowing through Tucson again! It was never anyone right to dam it the way they did or dry it. Now 2017 I'm sure we can restore it. We need to act fast. They Building more and more in the "Flood Areas" as an more valid excuse as to why they cant restore it. People in power know people are going to start fighting for these types of things now! A guy in California is sueing now and he states that the river is mostly dry due to general electric company taking control of most of the rivers up NW that ran down to the SW i thought that was the main reason why it had dried. Please any info on how we can start something to regain this river would be nice

The President's hectoring the Press is treasonous, undermining people's trust in all our principles.

Re: “Political Punch

Provocateur -- a person who provokes trouble, causes dissension, or the like; an agitator.

This is not journalism, but it is what passes for journalism today.

Real journalism, not unlike my former career as a military police investigator, is about finding and preserving evidence, gathering facts and records that either substantiate or unsubstantiated a crime. It is not about having a predetermined outcome and working toward a conclusion by selecting only things that support the desired results. If I did my job right, I did not need testimonial evidence, such as statements and confessions, the physical evidence and facts were sufficient to convict; all though, confessions were the icing on the cake.

Today, too many "journalists" are semi-professional sh@t-starters more interested in garnering attention to their particular point of view than revealing the truth -- warts and all.

I firmly support the First Amendment -- I gave more than 20 years supporting and defending the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and today we are facing threats from both foreign and domestic powers, some of which are working together against the American people and our institutions.

If we are to survive these challenging times we must hold both the government and the press to higher standards. The truth is not something that resides on a sliding scale or is a matter of your point of view.

"The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object." -- Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

Re: “The life of Timothy H. O'Sullivan

So glad you've archived this article and that I've found it! It turns out Timothy O'Sullivan photographed the area in southern Colorado near the site of my great-grandparents' dude ranch, many years before that was established. Fascinating story and such incredible pictures!

Re: “Political Punch

I am far from being anything close to be called or labeled as a Trump fan or supporter.
But, The irrefutable Facts are that protected Free speech has been hindered by threats, physical violence, property damage and outbursts of the far left far more than this isolated Sanders incident where he was shouting and trying to stop Trump from speaking. Bottom line, Sanders's comments are not worth the cost of the ink required to print them, let alone being given the dignity as a lead story in this or any other publication!!
