Re: “What’s Cooking, Tucson?

Dear Editors of Tuscon Weekly,

I recently read your Best of Tuscon list where you mentioned that Food City is the best place to buy a Piata. You have never met my Aunt Shilrey and clearly did not include her efforts in you list, for this foresight I would like to cancel my subscription.
If you had met my Aunt Shirley you would know that two years ago she made a piata in the likeness of a Minion for my nephew Casey. It was six feet tall and too heavy for one person to carry alone. We hung it from a street light because we didnt have a tree large enough or strong enough. Tuscon PD was on the scene before the first kid could take a swing. Caseys Dad, my brother in law Aaron was promptly arrested for disturbing the peace and his outstanding warrant from Montana for cooking meth. The officers blocked traffic and were kind enough to let Aaron watch the kids break open the piata scoop up the candy and socks off the street before they hauled him away for three to six years.
Aunt Shirley made a piata for my sister Darlenes bridal / baby shower. Shirley used old t shirts and jeans and Gorilla Glue to make a piata she filled with cash, condoms and little bottles of booze. Those drunk women smashed at that thing with baseball bats shovels and axes. They even threw it off the bridge into traffic. Finally Shirleys brother, Darlenes dad, my uncle Carol shot it with the 410 shotgun. It caused a small rip and broke some of the booze bottles, and caused Tuscon Police to respond. Carol didnt help matters by meeting the officers with a smoking shotgun in the driveway especially since he is a former felon. I think he got six months in jail and a year probation for brandishing a firearm.
I think Aunt Shirleys best piata is the one currently sitting on the table. Its like a large football and made of kevlar she bought online. Its for Aarons coming home party. Im sure it will be fun.
Anyway best of luck to your future Best of Tuscon lists but count me out. You skipped Aunt Shirley and left JPs Garage off the Best Place to get Rid of Lice list. Thanks anyway

How can any local jewelry store compete with the Gem Show - that's just ridiculous!

How is Pima Allowed to be in the running for best Art classes. Youre making local businesses run against a college... dumb.

You all evidently have no idea what a punk band is. If this is what qualifies these days, our march towards cultural sterility is complete.

Best of list are always a joke. One was awarded the best in a category and it is a shell of its old self. did the staff even check to see see if some of these places even qualified for the category they won. Bet the list would look different if it was done while Uof A was on break.

Yeah, Nicos? Yuck. Try St. Mary's cafe on St. Mary's for authentic Mexican food.

I have tried numerous Chinese restaurants in Tucson and Golden Dragon wins.

Re: “Best of Tucson® 2017

My same thoughts from last year: golden dragon is not the best chinese in town. Tucson weekly readers dont know what actual chinese food, not american chinese food is.

I would have thought Old Chicago would have the best beer selection. They have over 100 on tap. Rubs is the best place to get a massage? Something doesn't seem right about these.

Why no Best Bar and Grill? Why no Best Apartments? I do not understand how the categories were picked. For Best Bar and Grill Pick the Trident on Speedway. Robert "Bob" Horvath a Tucson resident since 1973

Re: “Best of Tucson® 2016

It bothers me every year that you put Book Stop and Bookman's in the same category. Bookman's is used m e d i a; its books are are respectably OK, but it is not in the same category as Bookman's. I've traveled the world visiting Book-Stop-like places; I do not do that for Bookman's-like.

Louie Pallanes, I'm always on the lookout for a good burger. What places would you recommend?

Thanks for recommending Harvest, Lawrence Miller. I am not familiar with them, but I will have to seek them out.
