Re: “Backstage Bliss

Maureen, I agree 100% - these are two of the most loving, fun, and colorful people that I'm lucky enough to know. Tucson is very fortunate to have them. Love you, Kris and Cathy!!

Re: “Backstage Bliss

Its impossible that its been 20 years since we attended Kris and Cathys wedding. These two are the most genuine, kind people you will ever meet. They are part of the fabric that makes Tucson the unique place it is. Rock on you two! Thank you for all you do to make Tucson why we love where we live.

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

I stand corrected on so many things here! And apologies to those survived by Randy but not mentioned by name. Great to have so many blanks from the early days filled in here.

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

Early 80 couldnt get a gig anywhere for rock. So Randy answered an ad in the dandy dime, looking for guitarist. He met Bill Johnson and Max Miksael, The country band, Mickey Free. Anything to play. I still have a 1980 T-shirt. Randy was at Woodstock and was always a deadhead. Just to set that straight. Lol

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

I wrote nice piece, maybe too long. It didnt post. No warning it was was too long. Ted brought TDC to Randy, ended up Randy kept it going. Thanks Ted. My post explained how since 1971 there were bands and drummers and all the characters. Rex Estell, drummer for Snow. Brian playing with Eric Garcias band, Randy with Rez, Steve Garcia later bass player sax, Boomers. Those Guys, White Guys, zonies, aziz, Mr Calm and the Willies, Cap nJohn. Mix n match over the years. Band practice my house every Tuesday and Thursday after work, 7:00 pm for seven years.

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

Brian Barbarisi goes all the way back to the Boomers, Steve Garcia on bass and sax. Chris Montgomery was original drummer of Randys bands. Lots of mix and match. Brian played in Eric Garcias band, but everyone was playing together. Musical chairs. Rex Estell was first drummer I think, Snow? Were you Rex?

Mr Calm and the Willies. Those Guys. My favorite, White Guys, they were playing blues, trying to book them was hard, because managers were given the Willies by possible race overtones.

They played the Halloween Party at Paul Bears house. They all wore rag mops for Raga hair. Randy said the mops were disintegrating into their mouth and lungs. Most uncomfortable. One of many insane moments in the life of the band. All of them.

Bands started in 1971, so plenty of time for everyone to party across Tucson Time. Ted brought Top Dead Center to Randy. The basic band was coming into form. Mike, SJohn, Ray, Ted, straight out of Cap n John. Many memories, have to meld them together, thats why Randy never wanted to leave anyone out.

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

I need to correct something here. It was guitarist Ted Reyes that actually got together with Randy and conceived of the band, to try it out playing Dead... Mike Begla came a closer second . They asked him if he wanted to play bass. Ted Reyes did not conceive of the Mike and Randy Show which has been at the Hut these many years. Ted is well deserving of acknowledgement and respect. As he is a vital force of music.

Re: “Randy Clamons, RIP

Guitarist Ted Reyes actually conceived the band playing Dead Music with Randy. Mike came in right after. But they asked him if he wanted to play bass with Dead band. This needs to be said. Acknowledging Ted Reyes, a mighty force when it comes to playing. Abby Moor Claims.

Re: “Vintage Vinyl

Lee always great stuff. Thanks for digging up the vintage music and sharing. Still think of you from the old Whistling Shrimp days when I spin my red vinyl of Johnny Seven.

Take care

Re: “The Top Seven Things About SXSW 2019

Trupa Trupa is more likely meant as "Dead Man's Troupe" or "Dead Man's Group".

The room in the convention center isn't called Flatstock. Flatstock is an exhibition for poster artists.

Re: “Awarding the Ambiance: Steve Roach

I've been a Grammy/Recording Academy member for 12 years and at least during that time it looks like Roach or his label only submitted in his albums in the last two. Can't get nominated if you don't submit. No surprise that he gets nominated once his albums were submitted. Definitely deserves the recognition.

Re: “Awarding the Ambiance: Steve Roach

Steve Roach has -defined- this genre by making music that cannot be conveniently shoe-horned into a commercially-driven category, and, more importantly, connecting those that listen to his music to the imaginative and boundless worlds that he creates: this music is nothing whatsoever like anything you will ever hear from anyone else. Steve Roach is, make no mistake, the master.

Congratulations on the nomination and looking forward to another 30 years of fine listening!
