Re: “At the Finish Line

Wow - way to present candidates! Double the words for the democrat and someone who is part of the political machine vs a guy who feels called to make a difference in his community...341 for Sam and 666 words for Santa Cruz - (kinda weird, huh!????)

Don't just vote party line - vote for the guy who has transformed his life and wants to help transform this city!!!!

Re: “Classroom Inclusion

I worked with Cecilia Padilla at Holladay, and as angry as I am at Chicanos por la Causa for their support for the NO on 205 campaign, I have to give them credit for choosing her for this award. She is an amazing teacher and the kids under her care and pedagogy grew so very much! In those years she really was a bright star although it wasn't clear to me that she got enough credit for it. The school was struggling through all sorts of issues, and I thought that she moved on to a different district partially because there was a big pay increase involved. I could be wrong on the details, but I am right when I say that she is amazing person who passes on a feeling of love and safety to her students that is rare for someone with such high standards. Clone yourself before you leave, Cecilia, our schools need you!

Re: “Hack the Vote

And easier access would be great with shorter lines. This is why I vote from home. Can call from home and be sure Im registered, ask when the ballot will arrive, I have a paper ballot trail and I can vote from home, with my feet up. I highly recommend it.

Re: “Hack the Vote

Would like voter security. Thank you for the post.

Re: “Hack the Vote

Yes, agreed. There seems to be no action to encourage voting from home with paper ballot and its so easy. Plus, Ive not heard anything from Sinema since after her campaign. I hope shes just busy. Im voting blue pretty much, no matter what. I will be voting from home which allows me to research the candidates, if there are any I am unfamiliar with, a more obscure position.

Re: “Hack the Vote

Yeah, let's get after those nefarious foreigners threatening our freedoms and right to vote.

Pay no attention to those voter identification laws, gerrymandered districts, purged voter rolls, limited polling places and restricted voting hours in certain areas, or those scary people hanging around just outside the polling place boundaries monitoring the people voting and polishing the gunracks in the back window of their pickup trucks.

It's those foreigners trying to keep "real 'mericans" from voting.

Pictured ID at the polls. 48 hours to vote. Problem solved.

Re: “Hack the Vote

"There is a clear need for the establishment of standards for machine penetration testing" - huh? Who will hold hackers to that standard. What's needed is paper audit trails and rigorous statistical analysis to detect anomalies that trigger paper audits.

Re: “Second Chance

The garbage police are coming for you. You were warned about this 25 years ago.

Re: “Second Chance

The problem is we have two groups in this community. Those very committed to recycling who will do the right thing, break down boxes, put only clean materials in recycling containers, etc. Then we have, basically lazy people. They just throw everything in whatever container is available or less full. I see kids in our area who are sent to take the trash out. Even if the household did separate correctly, they throw all the stuff in one container, maybe some gets in, then they run back to play video games.

Re: “Second Chance

Awesome that they're going to start enforcing for the folks that put garbage in their bin. Come on people!
It's also great that they are starting to move toward more sensible and economically efficient methods like composting paper.
And recycling glass is just pointless. It's literally sand. It takes up a ton of room and is worth nothing. Costs to transport offset any benefit of recycling it.

Re: “Second Chance

In a city with a budget of $1.56 Billion. We read handwringers about a $3 Million recycling deficit. This is less than 0.3% of the budget. Get a real story Nintzel. Oops, I forgot - The Weekly is not a real newspaper.

Re: “Letter Degrade

Sincerely held thoughts and beliefs.... Sounds just like Trumps defense of the Nazis in Charlottesville. Fire his bigoted ass. And how the hell did this guy get hired in the first place? Whose buddy?

Re: “Letter Degrade

Don't care what your sexual preference is, but vilifying an educator for a letter he wrote years ago. and apologized for, speaks more about QUC than Dr. Dull. Our community is stronger than any group trying to employ PC group speak backwards. Have none of the QUC members ever grown or changed or apologized a position held 15 years ago? Is there any evidence that this man treated ANY of his associates or students in a disrespectful manner? This ploy sounds like a tweet from Trump. Shame on Banner for caving to a small minority of the community they say they wish to serve. At least use rule of law and evidence when judging anyone, one is not a victim because they feel they are. Hang in there Doc, continue to live in the present unlike some.

Re: “Letter Degrade

Now we'll see the trolls like Bob roll out their hate speech. Always interesting to read "Christians" spouting comments that are so alien to their own New Testament dogma. Remember the "WWJD" fad? These folks have apparently never considered that question.

Re: “Letter Degrade

One does not need to "beware" of their political positions that they may be the ruination of their career decades from now if they maintain a strong, positive ethical standard that subscribes to our country's basic civil rights. In our current climate these issues are red hot. We are a diverse culture like it or not. It's not going away. Highly regarded research universities require that their faculty, particularly faculty on the tenure track maintain an exemplary standard of ethics in and out of the classroom and bring prestige to the institution.
One would also think that an anesthesiologist, well schooled in the medical sciences would have a more sophisticated view on the humanity he serves.

Re: “Letter Degrade

I would strongly disagree with his letter and find it mean and hurtful, but his beliefs were commonplace in probably more than half the population 15 years ago. Should we fire half our doctors, professors, etc.?
Beware, your political positions today may be the ruination of your career decades from now if they turn out to be the wrong ones. He apologized unequivocally, why try to ruin his career?
