Re: “Border Skirmishes

Thank you Noah. The media has become expert of exactly that type of reporting. I only wish they could be honest and answer the question, why?

Re: “Border Skirmishes

"The event followed a tense three weeks on campus, after a March 19 incident that resulted in three students being charged with misdemeanor crimes.
Border Patrol agents were on campus that day in the Modern Languages building as guests of an event hosted by the Criminal Justice Association, a university club. There was no previous school-wide announcement that BP agents would be present on campus.
Student activists protested and confronted the BP agents' unexpected presence. A video that captured the exchange was posted online and went viral. As a result, the students involved in the protest received an overwhelming amount of personal threats online."

This is extremely misleading! Why state that there was "no announcement the Border Patrol would be on campus"? They were invited to speak, they weren't there to arrest anyone. And if you're DACA then there is no reason to be worried...you can't be arrested by BP.
It's also very dishonest for you to state that "A video that captured the exchange was posted online and went viral. As a result, the students involved in the protest received an overwhelming amount of personal threats online."
Denisse Melchor and her cohorts HARASSED and verbally assaulted BP agents. They also interfered with other students rights by disrupting classes and causing such a raucous that classes had to be dismissed.
If you're going to report...tell the whole story. Don't cherry pick. My daughter is a student at the University of Arizona that doesn't happen to agree with your take. And our family is of Mexican and Spanish decent.

Re: “Danger Street

I am going to call my state representative and senator right now. Unlike Brendan, I am still deeply resentful of the driver who injured him. Thank you, Brendan, for helping me also understand more about the complexities and rewards of forgiveness.

Re: “Requiem for a Heavyweight: Don Diamond

We need an honest balanced review of Diamond's extensive use of political donations and political influences to benefit his land development ambitions. We need a honest discussion on his relationship with John McCain and how that affected land investments from Monterey to Tucson, and both positive and negative impacts on the environment. The 2008 New York Times article on his John McCain linkage is a good start.

Re: “Congressional Questions: U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick

She's against uranium mining at the Grand Canyon but she threw Oak Flat under the bus. Why didn't you ask her about Rosemont?

Re: “Congressional Questions: U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick

Could she give us a location where there should be mining? Her party is saying that we have only twelve years until the earth is destroyed by GW so why should mining matter?

I don't see anything here about ROSEMONT, which is a much more pressing concern for those of us in southeastern AZ...!?! What gives, TW??

Caroline Anderson, The article was about barking dogs. Not mad dogs.

Could they possibly add Mark Finchem and Vince Leach to the list of noisy nuisances?

Re: “No Barking Matter: Oro Valley Seeks to Silence Nuisance Pets

If I called the cops on people who let their dogs bark nonstop out where I live on Park and Bilby, I'd probably be the one getting cited for wasting police resources or something.

No one down here controls their dogs, they just let them bark and bark and bark. Lots of people can't even ne bothered to keep them inside or even in their yard. They just let them out to roam the neighborhoods.

But, anyway, between the airlines from TIA, the jets from DM, the trains, the drunken Mexican parties lasting until 3 in the morning with loud tuba music blasting on loudspeakers, dogs are just more noise that poor people have to deal with and the cops won't do anything about.

Must be nice to have local police support in at least attempting to get noise under control.

Re: “No Barking Matter: Oro Valley Seeks to Silence Nuisance Pets

We need the same thing in Pima county. I have dogs and I understand that mine or anyones for that matter can be or start to be barkers. But once you are put on notice that the barking is keeping people from sleeping or disturbing their ability to hang out in a back yard, the owner MUST do something to stop it.
2 years we went through this. In Pima county you have to confront the offender in court. Seriously. Our HOA did nothing and the police told us they could not help. This lead to a miserable existence between us and our neighbor who was not a bad guy. He just didnt get or believe it when we told him his dogs would bark up to 8 straight hours.

Re: “Domestic Death: Oro Valley Murder

Is it me or is there way too much passive voice in this article?

Also, U of A lawyers should feel ashamed to be associated with this guy. Any 2L could pick the holes in his story. He obviously has not been watching enough Snuff TV on Friday nights. Not enough Dateline with Lester Holt.

Re: “Classroom vs. Crime

All of these glowing reviews are a direct result of the Perry preschool project. Hundreds of millions, if not billions have flowed from the less than 50 students of the Perry preschool. Now, if we can hire a shepherd for every group of kids to follow them from preschool to adulthood.

But, meanwhile, there has been a ton of research on millions of preschool students and also kindergarten.

No good, not good at all.

In the early childhood longitudinal study, they spent a $140 million randomly selecting 20,000 students and following them from the start of kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. Result, those students who went to all-day kindergarten were a chunk behind those who didn't at the end of 8th grade.

This is not a surprise. Measures of prosocial behavior, motivation and anti-social behavior showed all-day kindergarten students losing ground to half-day kindergartners right at the time they were in kindergarten.

This study was of special significance because they separated data collection from analysis to prevent the bias from corrupting results.

It would be interesting to know the names of the unhelpful organizations. I do not want to donate to an incompetent nonprofit group that just collects checks while showing nothing for it.

I have known Michelle for several years and it hurts me to hear how cruel her treatment was when she was fighting for the safety of her unborn child and herself. I would hope that things have improved since this travesty.
