Jerry Brown is a progressive and he is destroying California. Why would you want to do that to us?

Re: “The Skinny

To be clear, Matt Heinz paid for his own poll. What could go wrong? Mary Matiella has been running a grassroots campaign for nearly a year, visiting voters across CD2. Mary actually came in second in fundraising in the first quarter of this year, if Matt's $250,000 loan to himself is put in the "loan" column. Hers are grassroots donations, gained via meet and greets, knocking on doors and phoning voters. Her story, from being the daughter of farmworkers to graduating from Pueblo High and UA, to executive positions in the Forest Service, HUD and the Department of the Army (the latter an appointment by President Obama, is chronicled on her website: www.matiellaforcongress.com. Her progressive views don't change with the political winds, as with some candidates. Shiny objects, like polls and Steny Hoyer endorsements grab headlines. The voters will have the final say.

Re: “The Skinny

At the recent CD2 forum hosted my Represent Me AZ I'd say that Wheeler and Kovacs both clearly articulated plans and positions that would be a clear improvement on no-show Kirkpatrick's stated tenets. I hope one of them can pick up that 36% and challenge the front runners.

For the record, which doesn't seem to count much at The Weakly -- the 2,000 "new" jobs Raytheon is adding will not bring them up to past employment levels.

As for the election races, hopefully the Dimocrats will learn soon that No is not a program, and that impeachment of Trump is a diversion, and that we are eagerly waiting to hear what exactly they plan to do for us...except rail against the Republikooks.

Re: “The Skinny

The candidate for Congress in CD2 with the experience and gumption needed to be an effective leader for Southern Arizona is clearly Bruce Wheeler. His accomplishments as a public servant over many years overshadow the combined achievements of all the others in this race. Heinz and Kirkpatrick have been more skilled at raising money so far, but the public has trusted Wheeler for years. They will turn their attention back to him as they start to pay more attention to this campaign.

Re: “The Skinny

Sounds like a fair trade-off to me. Charles Huckelberry has flouted the Board of Supervisors adopted policy on I -11 in the Avra Valley and has given tons of tax dollars away to crony businesses. He has to go. And perhaps we might consider a road repair charitable contribution on our state taxes -- that would reduce what we send to Phoenix to mis-use dollar for dollar, and get our roads repaired without another sales tax. (I know, Charles keeps saying we're the only county without a sales tax, but what, then, is the RTA sales tax we've been paying for years, and why is none of it going for road repair? Oh -- it's a "transaction privilege tax!")

Speaking of mis-use of tax dollars, when can we expect the official "independent" report on the World View hydrogen balloon explosion last December? Thanks, Ally Miller and the Arizona Daily Independent, for breaking that news. The mainstream media tried to cover it up, and I don't believe The Skinny has ever mentioned it.

And Rio Nuevo -- big Caterpillar coup...that left behind an operation closed in South Milwaukee dis-employing 900 people in a community of 2500 families. They don't think our deal was so hot. Rio Nuevo, being exempt from the Gift Clause (which keeps rural dirt roads unmaintained because they are technically easements), acts as a conduit for things the BOS can't do legally. Like dark money.

Ah, you, say, but for $12 million we get 34 hockey games at the convention center. Well, you do if you pony up the $400 - $1000 to buy tickets for all those games. Do the math, Jim.

There is no gun show loophole. But ignorant people are still trying to beat that dead horse to death.

Re: “The Skinny

If Dems would support Ducey's plan, it would easily pass. Its provision to allow guns to be temporarily (72 hours) confiscated if a judge determined a person was a danger is something Dems should support.
But they're going to hold out because it doesn't close the gun show loophole - something that will *never* pass in Arizona. Or more likely because Ducey proposed it. Republicans will oppose it because of the above provision. Therefore nothing will be done.
This is why people can't stand politicians.

Re: “The Skinny

On the other hand, Ally's farcical stumble and flop can be traced back to the rustic buffoon tradition of ancient Greece, whereas CW13's idiot dribblings have more contemporary roots, the film oeuvre of Pauly Shore, for example. This is going to take some more thought. Don't worry, CW13, you're going to get a trophy either way.

Re: “The Skinny

I mean, Ally's faceplant is funny and all, in a pathetic, slapstick kinda way. But watching CW13 and crew get all dewy because people are calling out their little princess is hilarious.
