8 Crazy Nights

It’s no surprise that the awkward and funny-looking SNL comedian choose to star in an animated feature film because now his cartoon counterpart can be the Tony Hawk of skateboarding and the Stephon Marbury of basketball with a Josh Groban singing voice and Brad Pitt abs. However, with the powers of animation aside, Adam Sandler fills this 71-minute flick with countless immature flatulence jokes as he portrays an alcoholic delinquent who has become the Grinch who stole Chanukah ever since his parents died in a car accident on the Jewish holiday 20 years ago. After the perpetual screw-up destroys the revered ice pageant, a judge attempts to extract his bah humbug attitude by sentencing him to community service as an assistant basketball referee with a pint-sized falsetto senior citizen who is deluded by the cure-all forces of the shopping mall. Despite this depressing plot and the crude toilet humor, Sandler actually does manage to pull off an adequately funny flick including a triple-breasted woman, a bald-headed trombone-playing sister and highly intelligent deer. But the catchy and clever musical numbers deserve the most credit for creating one crazy night at the theater.
