At the Wound Center of Tucson, we see patients from all over Southern Arizona, including many with complex conditions like diabetic ulcers, pressure injuries, or post-surgical wounds. These patients often require wound care two to three times a week. But here’s the reality: Many of these folks can’t physically make it into our clinic that frequently.
Some are elderly or disabled. Others live alone, don’t drive, or simply struggle to care for wounds in hard-to-reach places. That’s why we’ve built a system that meets patients where they are – literally. Whether you can manage your own care or need professional help, we have a path forward to help you heal safely and consistently. Below, you’ll find three ways we make wound care simple and that allow our team to bring it home to you.
Teaching Patients to Treat Themselves Safely and Effectively
Roughly half of our patients can be trained to care for their own wounds at home. With the right instruction, supplies, and follow-up, they can clean, dress, and monitor wounds with confidence.
We provide step-by-step guidance on:
-
Proper wound cleaning and debridement
-
Applying dressings that minimize pain and promote healing
-
Watching for signs of infection or delayed healing
For many patients in need, this level of self-sufficiency is not only empowering, it helps speed recovery by avoiding unnecessary clinic visits.
Partnering with Home Health Agencies for Insurance-Covered Care
For patients who can’t care for their wounds on their own due to limited mobility, cognitive impairments, or wound location, we often coordinate with licensed home health agencies. If your insurance plan covers in-home wound care, we can refer you to trusted providers who send skilled nurses or aides directly to your home.
This approach helps ensure continuity of care, especially in cases where wounds are deep, infected, or require complex dressings that need frequent changes.
Deploying Our Own In-Home Nurse Practitioners Across Tucson
When home health isn’t an option – or if you as a patient needs specialized attention – we can send help directly from our clinic. We currently employ two full-time nurse practitioners who travel throughout Tucson, providing bedside wound care in patients’ homes.
These experienced professionals act as an extension of our clinic, delivering:
-
Advanced wound care treatments, including debridement
-
Medication management
-
Personalized assessments and care planning
This service helps bridge the gap for patients who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
Why This Matters
Unhealed wounds aren’t just painful, they also can be dangerous. Stubborn wounds that resist healing can increase the risk of infection, hospitalization, and even limb loss. That’s why staying on track with wound care matters so much.
By offering flexible, accessible, and personalized care options, we help patients heal faster, avoid complications, and maintain their independence.
If you or a loved one is dealing with a chronic or complex wound, don’t let transportation, mobility, or uncertainty delay your healing. At the Wound Center of Tucson, we’re redefining what expert wound care looks like – whether you visit us in person or receive care from the comfort of your own home.
