Yoko Ono tweeted this on the anniversary of her wedding of her late husband and Beatles singer-songwriter John Lennon—while also making a statement about gun violence.
The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon twitter.com/yokoono/status…
— Yoko Ono (@yokoono) March 20, 2013
Eagle-eyed music fans will note that the image Ono used appears to be a cropped image of the cover of her 1981 album, Season of Glass, which was released less than six months after Lennon’s death, and featured a number of songs in his memory.
Ono also sent another tweet, attaching the same image, noting that more than 30,000 deaths are caused by firearms each year in the U.S.:
31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone. twitter.com/yokoono/status…
— Yoko Ono (@yokoono) March 20, 2013
Astute respondents to Ono’s tweets have noted that the majority of firearm deaths in the U.S. are suicides (19,392 in 2010, compared to 31,672 total, according to the CDC), though the fact that gun deaths, as a whole, have risen since 2000 should raise concerns for both advocates of gun control and those wishing to expand gun ownership rights.

guns dont kill people, the people behind the trigger do! fix the broken mental health care system! stop giveing billions of dollars away in forign aid to other countrys that hate us anyway, and start takeing care of our own people!
You’re not getting her point. But it looks like your mind is closed to anything she has to say on the subject of people killing other people. It’s not just murder…..it’s the accidental deaths of children, teens, and adults….it’s suicide/murder cases. The fact is ANYONE can get a gun, any type of gun they want, whenever they want one. Any amount of ammunition they want. That’s the right of the people right? WRONG!!! That right has been abused for way too long. Ever hear of the few bad apples that spoiled the whole basket? Well that’s what happened here. People buy guns to kill other people. Whether it’s to protect their homes or not. Wait til something happens in your family and I’m sure you’ll be whistling another tune.
she is a sick person always has been
Don’t blame it on the all on the mentally ill. I’m sick of that mantra. Yes, there are some who commit acts of violence because they have fallen through the cracks of our broken system for which there is no easy fix. Just look at the VA and trying to get benefits to the many injured and wounded veterans of these two heinous wars we’ve been fighting.
Debi is right. You two have dismissed her and missed her point. I guess everyone who is against something you are for must be crazy or wrong. They said the same thing about those who said the Iraq war was wrong from the start, too. One of them became our President.
I say, believe him now. Believe Senator Feinstein who became Mayor of San Franscico because the then-Mayor and a City Councilman, Harvey Milk, got gunned down in City Hall. She saw their blood-stained bodies. Anyone who has seen a blood-stained body of a victim of gun violence will be for some of these common sense gun reform suggestions, like universal background checks. I’ll add high capacity magazines and Feinsteins assault weapons ban which excludes hundreds of weapons…you just don’t need a bazooka.
Let Yoko Ono mark her anniversary any way she wants. It’s personal to her. If she wants to make a statement about gun violence, it’s her right. She may not have gotten some statistics perfect, but then there is always someone to nit-pick anyone whom they don’t like.
Guns don’t kill people… people with guns kill people. There’s still a big problem in this country with violence and guns are part of that problem!
when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns! and no anyone cant just get a gun, they have to pass a background check, except for the gun show loop hole witch they are about to close, u can go in any major city and kill more people with a car.
