Why is Arizona so…?
Yep, according to a super-scientific survey of Google’s auto-complete feature, blogger Renee DiResta developed a map compiling the top responses for the question “Why is [state] so…?” and of course, the top responses for Arizona include racist, crazy, and hot. To be fair, most states, when using this particular metric, don’t come across so great: Tennessee is stupid, Utah is weird, Pennsylvania is haunted, apparently. However, it would be nice if something positive came through, but at least we beat out Arkansas, a state so defined by being poor, that no other auto-complete suggestion is even made on the Googler’s behalf.

Arizona is the best, most proactive state in America, and leads the way in conservative thought and action, which has several other states following suit. I’m proud to be an Arizonan! OUST Obama in 2012.
It’s too bad that proactive in this case means regressive, anti-democratic and xenophobic. Hell, I wouldn’t mind if we went back to the 50’s mentality that you regressives seem to love so much if we could get the Eisenhower tax rates for the top 10% (even Reagan knew that the top earners should be paying more) to pay for all your bullshit defense programs.
So much of the media, including the Tucson Weekly, has incorrectly portrayed Arizona’s efforts to abide by the law and to protect its citizens as “racist,” that the gullible public at large believes it to be true. My state has always been full of intolerant supposed tough guys… And genuine folks, who just want to help their fellow citizens. With the hard times the Repugnants brought upon us with their support of cursory, and suppression of any regulators, it appears that more of these haters(tea party)dudes & dudettes are crawling out from under the stones they were hiding under. Arizona remains and continues to run and govern itself the way it started many years ago. All the new age immigrants and so forth don’t like it so we hear you complain. Mind your own state and live somewhere else if you don’t like it. This country has thrived all these years doing it the way we. Tucson comes up as hot, boring and dark. Not such a great outcome either. Admittedly Phoenix is apparently hot, big and dry.
Daniel, if you knew the facts about “Joe” – I assume you mean Maricopa County Sheriff Arpaio – you would not think “good work”.
Ask the dozens of sexually abused children in El Mirage, who that racist sheriff failed to protect by not investigating all those crimes, how they feel about “good work”.

Racists? Remember, Tucson was not chosen as the state capitol because it had opted to join the confederacy. The desegregation of TUSD schools is still an ongoing problem. We have heard stories? Of hate and racism in AZ. I myself just smile and look at the person who is telling me this? One who never finish school or has a dream. Myself and my husband have a dream. That dream is to be out of Ca. I call it the WELFARE STATE, I am sick of my TAXES going to unwed dumb females with men in jail. Well plainly said the great state of Arizona is backwards. Instead of making a humane leap towards living together and getting along we fight amongst each other. Back in the day they used to bake to welcome in good neighbors. Now, well they make a profiling law legal. If you are not white you might just get pulled over and maybe going to jail. Arizona is not a racist state. It’s a very beautiful friendly state. U may have a few racist people but not alot. For being part of the ‘Old West’, AZ is actually a surprisingly ‘Southern’ state in attitudes and ‘culture’. It was not only once part of the Confederacy, but was also heavily settled by southerners and former Confederate soldiers who moved out west following the Civil War. These days the urbanized Flagstaff/Phoenix/Tucson inner ‘corridor’ may have liberal newcomers and more ‘growth’, but get out into the more ‘rural’ parts of the state, and the uber-conservative ‘Southern’ influence quickly becomes much more apparent.
Unfortunately I have lived in AZ for most of my life coming from Cali and having immigrated from southeast Asia to the United States at the young age of 6 and YES INDEED AZ Is one of the most racist hot and evil state/place ever. I have been discriminated my entire life by white people here in AZ in every facet of my life from not getting hired to getting hired and then being fired by no fault of my own to so many many more evil things. I have been so miserable all my life having to live in this hellhole AZ. Cali was much nicer and better. The whites american weren’t as evil or racist as the whites Arizonan by a long stretch. These whites AZ have made my life a Living hell from all their evil laws tactics and methods of discrimination it’s not even funny. I’m have tried to escape AZ so many times but to to avail. If I had known how bad AZ was and had the nerves to leave my family behind a long time ago, I wouldn’t have been and still is so miserable. I’m still looking to escape and get out of this AZ hellhole but most of the United States are just as bad. Best I will be moving back to where I came from. Hopefully sooner than later. I don’t care if people think that I would have lost to the az racists by doing this. That doesn’t mean nothing to me. Wtf is all this racist talking bullshit?? Seriously?? My family goes back to when Arizona only had trails and no actual travel other than horse and buggy!! Most of my family is white and we have pretty much been the minority most of my life! I personally have been in trouble more than most I have known and have never really seen or heard anyone doing anything unless a couple of people were engaged in some type of altercation and said some bad things but you tell me a state when people are fighting that don’t say hurtful things none that’s how many every where in every country does this for no other reason than to seem superior it’s called life ..I have chipped weeds in cotton feilds and I have been to prison and then became a project SUPERINTENDENT for a large company.
