So, Lindsey Lohan plans on voting for Mitt Romney this November, according to a bit of information released by E! News.
Now, I generally discount the words of a raving serial drunk driver and rehab center frequenter (Do you get a free mug with a DT-proof splashguard after five visits or something?) as much as anyone, but Business Insider has given me a reason to be concerned:
Lohan, by all accounts, is a typical low-information voter. And low information voters, like it or not, will decide this election.
BI’s Walter Hickey then notes that Lohan isn’t alone in her low-information selection of a candidate to back, making note of Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger:
Bissinger, [Dave Weigel of Slate] notes, was a low information voter. He ignored the election, watched the debate, took everyone’s word for it on the facts, and backed Romney.
But Bissinger is emblematic of millions of Americans. These people don’t follow politics, don’t understand the issues with depth, and plan to vote based on what little information they’ve gleaned.
Basically, it seems as if things are coming down to the fact that tangential things that may have won Obama the last election (potentially the first black president; a Democrat running following a widely-reviled Republican administration; convincing the electorate with simple introductions to complex issues) are working against him in this election.
The concern is whether or not the Obama campaign calls out Romney and Ryan for their smoke-and-mirrors policy tactics — and if low-information voters will even care by that point.
This article appears in Oct 11-17, 2012.

No surprise there, anybody as stupid as she is would vote for same.
I’m more concerned about low-information “journalists” like you, David Mendez.
I’ve got a fan!
you can tell who the writer of this article is voting for. Obama is a loser.
Low information = stupid and ignorant = republican.
Great we are screwed
How about all the stupid, dopey welfare recipients and dependent class who vote for the Democrats? That MORE than balances it out.
Obama won the 2008 election by convincing low information voters he was the right choice. Romney and Obama are both trying to win the 2012 election by convincing low information voters they are the right choice. The problem is not the tactics of the candidates (why blame them for trying to win), the problem is with the fact that the vast majority of the country consists of low information voters. This article is a perfect example of perpetuating the problem. If you are a low information voter, and you read this article, you would be inclined to believe that “all low information voters are voting for Romney, which is bad because he is lying, therefor, since I am a low information voter, I should be smart and not do that, I will vote for Obama”. That is certainly what this article is insinuating. The problem is both candidates are lying (which this article conveniently skips over). Voters that are educated, understand how the system works, and understand the core issues, know that little fact. It doesn’t matter though because those voters also know that the more important election is the congressional one. Congress makes the rules, the president does not.
i’m curious as to what “tangential” means. I’m just a blue collar worker with a little college and a veteran of the military. still don’t understand what a “low information” voter is and could care less who my wife votes for. I vote for who I want to not because of who some celebrity votes for. Neither Romney nor Obama is gonna get me a job nor lower my taxes. They’re just one person with their finger on the button ready to use it or not. Their handlers tell them what to do and their press secretary tells them what to say. p.s. Your a moron for writing something about LL that does not involve her getting thrown in jail or fighting with her mother.
I find it somewhat funny that a journalist is worried that a low-information voter might vote for a republican. Maybe the true reason you are worried is that the same people who were uninformed and voted for Obama in the last election because he was hip and charismatic are voting for someone that exposed him for what he truly is in a way that (almost) everyone can understand? I am NOT a low-informed voter, not a D or an R and vote for the person that I feel is the best in the job. Maybe you should try to do the same?
So, maybe there is hope for her then.
Me personally? Ida figured for sure someone as irresponsible and self absorbed as is her image anyway woulda for sure quite naturally therefore voted irresponsibly. But just maybe she’s not such an off the rails hedonsistic bubblehead as I assumed from her press coverage.
For her to maverick away from the hollywood lock step monorail unidimentional trained seal group think demonstrates some indepenent thought at least and to my mind shows more clarity of consideration than is manafested among the vast majority of her tinseltown air headed colleagues, and I applaud her for it.
Low information =red states
East Coast=Ivy Leagues, Blue
West Coast=Silicon Valley, high tech, Stanford etc. Blue
Low Information=Red states, under educated.
She’s bi-sexual. Had a female lover for some time. R&R is strictly anti-gay. She’s probably too stupid to know that.
Shame on my 9th Grade American Government teacher – clearly, I was taught NOTHING factual about national elections and accurate polling practices! This article has opened my eyes: the voting choices (and paid twitter endorsements) of famous drug users/convicts are a legitimate representation of public sentiment.
Blademan, calling Lindsey Lohan a “maverick” is a bit of a stretch, though it’s interesting to consider. From that Business Insider article mentioned in the story, other mavericks (by that definition) include luminaries such as wrestler Hulk Hogan and porn actress Jenna Jameson.
Hey Brandt Hardin, talk about a low-information voter. I am guessing you don’t know that the income gap between the wealthy and the middle class has INCREASED under Obama.
The fact you can cancel my votes makes me sick.
Buzz Bissinger is a high-information voter, extremely high. Ivy league educated, celebrated author, liberal icon in the Jewish New York community. Hey, just sayin’…
That an elitist like Bissinger will cast his first GOP vote ever (probably, that is, there is no way to know) is far more telling than what Miss Lindsay may have to say.
Blue states put something like 150% more money into their schools on average than red states do. Seems to me that democrats prefer their constituents to be educated. Following this to it’s logical conclusion, Republicans prefer them ignorant. Makes sense. Republicans hold inflammatory issues like abortion and gay marriage in front of their constituent’s noses and jingle them like a set of shiny keys whenever they want to pass a law allowing a corporation to strip-mine too close to a city’s water supply, or set up a chemical processing plant too near a kindergarten. An uneducated populace is a very good thing for Republicans.
Yeah, you’re totally screwed because when Romney wins you’ll have to get the hell out of your parent’s basement, quit bitching, and get a job.
So low info is why blacks, Hollywood types in major numbers, university elitist leftists who brainwash our kids, young Punk types vote Dem huh? I would suggest that most who vote conservPub are far more informed and have stats, facts and wisdom that make the Biden loons look like some alternative universe aliens. Most endorsements do not move voters so why not pick on the Hollywood dopes pal???
“university elitist leftists who brainwash our kids”.
Oh, fewer red state kids go to schools, is that what you are saying? you are probably right.
I’m not worried. Does anyone really believe Lindsay will make it to a voting booth.
Just another of these, one week Romney is going to win and the next week Obama is going to win and the third week both are going to win.
Hypocrite, Obama got the most low information votes in the history of mankind, “where’s ma Obama phone, gimme ma Obama phone!”

This is hilarious. You say low information will decide this vote, not the last one? The last one was just Obama running against Bush even though his opponent was McCain. People blindly voted for Obama. Now they see how little he has done and that he is a weak president and the wrong choice and it’s because they have LITTLE information?
Obama has had 4 years to do anything and he has done little. He promised change. He has failed. It’s been more of the same.
…so that’s what Dina and she were fighting about over lines in the limo to long island???
Lindsay Lohan’s endorsement of Romney actually helps President Obama! It’s almost as bad as Stacey Dash crawling out of the woodwork looking for publicity to endorse Romney. A law breaking drug addict and a has been actress are all Romney can get?
Mitt gets the drug addict vote!
Yeah, boy. Those ghetto-dwellers and drooling, knuckle-dragging union thugs that form the base of the Dumbocrat party are the epitome of informed voters. What an idiot this “journalist” is.
Just because someone believes differently than you, does not mean they have “low information”. Last election, I mistakenly voted for Barack Obama. Most celebrities are endorsing the President and using their influence on young Americans to sway their vote and raise money for him with $100,000 per plate dinners. In 2008, I was a low information voter. Not happening this time around!!! I absolutely loathe how every form of media is so biased and “journalism” and “news” has become nothing but propaganda, either for the left or the right. With such tactics, it’s difficult to find the truth in the midst of all the lies.
Obama wasn’t to screw the middle class by making them dependent on the government rather than letting businesses expand and create jobs. Romney isn’t my ideal choice either. He screwed New Jersey over on their healthcare (Obama-Style) but he is WAY safer than 4-more years of Obama running us off a cliff and blaming everything on Bush.
I wish we had more choices but we don’t. Gotta go with Romney on this one or this country is in TROUBLE. And I mean ALL income levels not the rich ones. You eventually run out of other people’s money.
I like how some of the commenters on this page associate education with intelligence, I know a lot of educated people who couldn’t think there way out of a text book. Give me one of those undereducated red state people as you like to put it anyday, especially when the chips are down and a solution needs to be found. If you look those red states and especially when they have a red state governor have the highest incomes per capita in the country. never had much use for any of the hollywood crowd but glad to know some of them may be waking up.
She is not registered to vote. She won’t be voting for anyone.
What does it take for someone to see that the country is going to hell in a handbasket, thanks to our fearless leader? Gas cost twice as much since his inauguration, unemployment higher than it has ever been (real numbers), national debt increased by at least $5 trillion dollars and expected to be at $20 trillion PLUS by 2020, national defense reduced to next to nothing in the most turbulent times in recent history, on and on and on… It seems the liberals are under some trance and not able to grasp very obvious concepts. You won’t have a country to complain about pretty soon, thanks to your failure in chief. If you don’t like all the values and concepts that made this country the most powerful country this world has ever seen, please find a mediocre country of your choice and move there. We will probably bail you out in your new country soon when your destructive policies don’t work there either.
Like Obama, Mendez is going after the moron vote.
Perhaps the first sober thing she’s done in years.
If people find out that lohan is voting for romney, it might screw up his chances of election. maybe it’s an obama conspiracy to do so. who knows who paid this jerk off to say she’s votiing for romney so people will change their minds. What frightens me is that emotionally unstable laughing lunatic biden who made a complete fool of himself the other, being thisclose to the presidency! To deny he and the president knew anything about the Benghazi situation just proves what ignoramuses they are, and that is why this country is a mess. Oblamer it is YOUR job to show up at CIA, DOD, and DOS meetings and have some control! Clinton will probably go down for this one because she never alerted the president about Amb Stevens’ cry for help and more militia because he was an al-qaeda target. This is worse than watergate or the lewinsky scandal because 4 great people lost their lives to this administration’s incompetency. Amb Rice (appointed by obummer of course) HAS TO GO. Hopefully a true businessman like romney will get in and turn this country around. Even Steve Winn, who owns the vegas hotels and casinos lost his mind and said Obama did not create one single job. He (Winn) did. He created 250,000 jobs, because obummer couldn’t. Step aside for the Reps and pack your bags joe and barack!
Wow, and I thought my local newspaper was slanted, and I live in Ohio in the middle of this circus. The only thing that people are entitled to in this country is their opinion, even if you are Lindsay Lohan. It is easy to pull the wool over a lot of people’s eyes. You can tell since Obama is president.
The Democrats / parasites are desperate now. They have to put this low life Lohan endorsing Romney to change perception uh… You parasites are desperate… You will lose.
Mr. Mendez love your article. Too bad it is all one sided just like your brain. You call yourself a reporter. Maybe their will be room for you with Uncle Joe then we will complete a—–e
Six swing states just lurched to Obama.
Obviously, Lohan and Bissinger are more informed and intelligent than David Mendez, who must be vying for a job with MSNBC.
What is scary is that most voters are “low information voters.” Most have no idea what is going on here in America.
It’s funny how soon many people “know” what these politicians think because they are obviously with them all the time. No one knows exactly what is said and why. There are too many reasons why executive decisions are made which many of these commenters will NEVER understand nor have the capability to understand.
This article offers information. Many of these commenters who “think” they are informed are showing their true colors.
sorry you are so ill informed Mendez
Another objective report issued by those “unbiased” left-leaning media. Even though I give little credence to anything Lindsey Lohan has to say, I’d would also give little credence to Mr. Mendez’s reporting.
All you Obama haters have shown by your comments how little education you have! Who cares what Lohan thinks, but all the crap you heap on this from Obama getting the uninformed votes to thinking that Robmey and Lyin Ryan will do anything except support the rich! You must be kidding! And painting all welfare people as wanting to be on the Government dime???? Really??? And Poindexter, Robmey screwed New Jersey? Not Massachusetts? Most of you are so uninformed and ignorant, you should not be allowed to post on any site! But go ahead and vote for the tax cut for the rich! very sensible!
hottest looking actress alive, but dumb as dirt.
Wow I guess this is ignorant Arizona from all the likes posted.
Why is it that people of low status feel that voting the way the rich millionares do will elevate their status. Just because your vote like the millionares doesn’t make you one.
So shallow…please never move to Boston.
Great article. Perhaps 1 in 10,000 that actually hit on the money. But, you know, obvious generalizations are good material for articles. Considering this isn’t a political blog, at least it was a fresh outside perspective.
since when are felon”s allow to vote?
All the more reason for me not to vote for Romney. Lindsay Lohan endorses Romney? Maybe she has him confused with her crack dealer.
Because she does not vote the way you feel she should, she does not have the information to vote the way you think. Not everybody feels the same as you. Some people have the brains to make up their own minds and not follow others like so many sheep. Baaaaaaa, Baaaaaaaaa
I think the funniest thing that conservatives say is that the government doesn’t create jobs. Really? Who pays the defense contractors? I’m sure there would be a LOT more people out of work if the government tap dried up. And as you cut those gov’t programs and gut funding for others, you’ll put many more people out of work. But that’s the name of the game right? Keep cutting off limbs so you’ll stop bleeding to death?
The primairy reasion there are low information voters is because the media only reports half the information. Do your jobs correctly, quit throwing your personal beliefes into a news story and report ALL the facts not just the ones you want to.
well, make that 46.999999% now.
This is too funny for one getting an endorsement from Lindsay Lohan is an
embarrassment in itself she’s probably voting for him cause she considers herself to be rich when the fact is she is a mostly out of work actress who’s funds continue to deplete. No big names in Hollywood wants to work with her and if they do it’s to mock how trashy her behavior has been in the media. she better wise up because maybe one day she may become the middle class or sooner then she thinks since unemployment checks don’t last forever Romney will be taxing her next
Whomever this clown is that wrote this article is the epitome of a “low-information voter”. Get real! Who are the mind numb followers of the Dems? Take a IQ test of your typical Dem and Republican convention attendee. I think the Dems WROTE THE BOOK on how to attract low-information voters! I guess that can be expected when Biden is considered the “intellect” of your party. They’re also too engrossed staring at their faded Obama posters and tweeting in their childhood bedroom to become informed.
This type of inane article shows how far the news media has disappeared. Some intellegent remarks, mostly hateful comments. Have you noticed how thin the local papers have become? The terrible split in the country has never been worse and it’s not over yet. The ‘Mid-East is moving west!
I’ve been watching politics for a while and it is pretty obvious you never get exact figures from either side. Plus, you have to listen to context. This article is apparently assuming that Democrats never stretch the truth (Benghazi anyone?). If you go by the mess that has been the last four years-leaks, alienation, this jealousy of success that has risen and created hatred and envy, bills that are poorly-thought through, constant blame, bills like “cash for clunkers” that ruined car parts and put more people into repo, pushing through an ACA when we’re already stealing the world’s doctors…well, no thanks. I’m washing my hands of it. If Democrats hadn’t buried fannie/freddie oversight bills for about seven years before the housing crash ever happened, things might have been different now (think I’m lying about that? Go look up who introduced those bills from the start and who ran the housing committee). If Obama wins it’ll be interesting to see who he’s going to blame for the next four years.
Will you Obama haters take a minute and consider who he was running against last election…and do you really believe it couldn’t be any worse now? Have you forgotten which Grand Old Party put this country in a tailspin? Is it any surprise that a selfish, shallow millionaire would vote for her own financial interests? Are you seriously going to vote against your own?
There’s a problem with this article that has nothing to do with education vs. intelligence. Let’s get that straight right away, because they are easily confused for each other: you can be intelligent and uneducated. You can be educated and unintelligent. You can also be intelligent and educated. You can also be unintelligent and uneducated. Endless possibility.
Also too, this may be an issue that goes far beyond liberal vs. conservative, which even seem to have different definitions from the modern “Democrat” and “Republican,” regardless of how we are deliberately led down that path of confusion. Very few of these straight-ticket party people on either “sides” represent anyone besides themselves and their ambition…
This is simply non-news (pretend important stuff) fueled by the mindless attention seeking of a brain-fried, former childstar who shares little in common with any other voter, except for other brain-fried, former childstars. This doesn’t matter, at ALL, or apply to anyone but that silly, self-centered creature called Lindsay Lohan. And who – intelligent or educated, liberal or conservative – actually cares what she thinks*?
*Answer: LL, the Lohan family, and her dealer. Are you on that list? Good, then you don’t actually care.
Cocaine is a hellva drug
Wow Mr. Mendez, you’ve really pissed these Teabaggers off. It makes me ashamed to be an Arizonan, but nonetheless.
What these Teabaggers seem to have conveniently forgot is that Obama didn’t create these economic policies that made things the way they are, he only inherited them from The Decider’s reign of terror. The fact that things haven’t been fixed and maybe even gotten worse in the last 4 years doesn’t have anything to do with the “Evil Muslim” not trying; it’s hard as hell to get anything accomplished when you’ve got a whole House full of right-wing nut jobs attempting to keep “darky” down! The Teabaggers forgot about the little man called Baby Bush who with his cavalcade of greedy holier-than-thou string pullers basically set this country back 100 years by filling the securities of the United States Treasury full of lead. Mitt Romney has expressed interest in bringing back those same economic policies that f*#@ed this country up in it’s collective ass in the first place.
The fact that Ms. Lohan supports this hater of a big chunk of this country is not a surprise. Hell, we all know there’s probably several overrated and dim-witted celebrities like her and Terrible Ted (Nugent, of course) who support this Jack-Mormon. What shocks me is the response that this article has received from a set of people that bothered to access this from a website that usually attracts a more intelligent ilk of personalities.
I understand you may never read this Mr. Mendez, because having to wallow through all this hate to get here would really suck. Maybe people like us should move to Boston. (boston) I know I’ll definitely never move to Ohio. (Erin Ben)
Lohan’s decision making capabilities are consistent if nothing else. Anyone voting for the bundle of ineptitude and lies that is Mitt Romney is either part of the 1%, willfully ignorant, or a masochist.
WHy Lohan? She is completely irrelavent. The question is do we want four more years of Obama and his policies? With Reid blocking any unfavorable legislation, narrow minded politicians; on both sides of the aisle, no budget for three years, massaged unemployment numbers; hoping to make Obama look good, a failed foreign policy. I am not a fan of Romney, but it appears that we are looking to make a choice for the least objectionable candidate for the sixth consecutive presidential election.
