As I was flying around the house trying to get ready to go out and meet some friends for dinner, I heard Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News say that every major network today interrupted its programming to announce the death of Anna Nicole Smith.
Why?
I think it would be more meaningful to interrupt programming every time a soldier was killed in Iraq. The war would be history by now.
This article appears in Feb 8-14, 2007.

Dead soldiers are not part of the bread and circuses programming the networks rely on to capture audiences for their advertisers.
My question was rhetorical but for the sake of blogger mouthing, we give so much air time to Brittany Spears not wearing under pants as she exits a limo or Lindsay Lohan crashing her SUV for the umpteenth time. I want to watch the channel that doesn’t blow this crap out of proportion.
We are such a misguided society. If every time a soldier died in Iraq a siren was blown nationwide or they interrupted regularly scheduled programming to flash a face and a number of deaths on the screen…that would be the ultimate in reality TV.
