Update: Just spoke with UAPD. No further information at this time, and there’s been no confirmation that there was a shooting — they’re looking into the report.

We’ll keep things updated as we hear about them.

Update: Scanner reports say that there is “no indication that UMC is in any danger.”

Update, 5:46 p.m.: Scanner reports saying that there’s a male subject on the third floor of the Admin building, on the north side.

Update, 5:54 p.m.: From UAalert campus alert system: “Leave Admin bldg NOW thru 2nd fl lobby out the north lobby doors UAPD in bldg”

Update, 5:56 p.m.: From UAalert: “Evacuate Modern Languages Bldg to the east exits. Leave now thru the east doors”

Update: 5:59 p.m.: TPD scanner chatter: UA evacuees “haven’t seen or heard anything out of the ordinary.”

Update 6:07 p.m.: From UAalert: “UAPD & TPD are searching the Admin Bldg. remain clear of the area around Admin Bldg.”

Update 7:20 p.m.: From UAalert: “Investigation continues at Admin Bldg. Avoid areas around Admin Bldg, 2nd St and Mountain due to police activity.” Floor-by-floor sweeps have turned up nothing so far.

Update 7:29 p.m.: From UAalert: “The campus is open EXCEPT for the administration bldg during this on-going investigation.” Sweeps are continuing.

Update 8:41 p.m.: Via @DailyWildcat: Police appear to be leaving campus. We’re calling it a night here. If any more information comes in, we’ll keep you updated.

  7. If this report is true, didn’t the purported shooter realize he was in a gun-free zone? Doesn’t he know how to read english? The sign says No Firearms and they mean it. Did they have enough signs? Folks, this is serious. The sign says NO FIREARMS. I mean , what more can the U of A do? If these criminal shooters are going to ignore those signs, I really don’t know what we are going to do. Bigger signs? Discuss.

    Don’t speeders realize there are speed limits? Don’t they know how to read english? The sign says 40 and they mean it. Did they have enough signs? If these speeders are going to ignore those signs, I really don’t know what we are going to do. Bigger signs?

    Oh wait. Let me guess: you don’t believe in posted speed limits or any other laws governing behavior in regard to the safety of the community, is that it? Or do you and your kind only reserve such “logic” for the guns? Discuss.

Should you disagree, please expound upon how reality alters for scofflaws because a sign is posted. Logical readers will be waiting at the top of the evolutionary bell curve for your answer.

  10. @Lunazen111. Yes, you fell for it. I was being facetious. No amount of or size of the NO FIREARMS sign will stop a human being bent on killing. The only thing that will stop a human being bent on killing, is a good human being, armed and willing to use deadly force to protect innocent lives. Like a Sheep Dog that protects the sheep. Lunazen111, you can post as many NO FIREARMS signs as your heart desires and in your fantasy world, acutally believe you are safe, meanwhile, twisted human beings, bent on destruction, will walk right on by your NO FIREARMS sign and slaughter innocent victims. But hey, you have your SIGN and you have your No Fireams on campus.
