I’ve been corresponding with a Canadian writer and producer who tells me that a show called Taco Wars is coming to Tucson to film an episode. The show will pit three taco shops against each other to pick what the judges think is the best taco in Tucson. Sounds like it could be a pretty cool show. From an e-mail received this week:
… the show is called (not surprisingly) Taco Wars and this episode will focus on Tucson. The premise is that three taco joints will battle it out for the title of best taco on Tucson. I’m not sure when the show will air, We’re currently in early pre-production, but I suspect that it will be late 2012 early 2013.
I’ve already given my suggestions as to who could be possible contendors – not an easy task given the enormity of possibilities. But I was wondering which taco joints Tucson Weekly readers think should be included. Feel free to leave any suggestions in the comments section below.
This article appears in Sep 13-19, 2012.

I can suggest the carne seca tacos at El Charro’s dowtown location as they’re very tasy and pretty unique.

Las Margaritas Shredded beef taco!
Las Brasas carne asada tacos.
Maico’s (22nd/park) chicken tacos!
Taqueria Pico De Gallo tacos with homemade corn tortilla and really yummy and unique sauce.
Now that MaFooCo is coming back….
Pico de Gallo on 6th Ave and Apson on 12th Ave. I always go back and forth between the two. Both are AMAZING. And real.
Mafooco food Truck !!!
Korean tacos from mafooco are the best tacos in town!!!! Everyone in town love mafooco.
Tacos Apson and Pico de Gallo
Zendajas #13 ! Max makes the best fried tacos in town. Plus many other good treats.
Are the judges Canadian too? Please tell me what Canadians know about tacos, or any other type of Mexican food for that matter.
My favorite is the shrimp tacos at La Botana. Tacos Apson is a very close 2nd.
“I’ve already given my suggestions as to who could be possible contendors.”
“Contenders”.
El Saguarito or Guero Canelo or Mariscos Chihuahua
Boca tacos! The variety is almost limitless with the ever changing salsas and surprising “exotic taco’s” on wednesdays.
Boca. Seriously. No contest. Truly a hidden gem!
Boca, Boca and Boca, in that order.
BOCA….No contest
Two spots come to mind for different things. The “macho” at Boca is about as good as it gets! With tacos, don’t forget the salsa! The second is Maico’s lengua tacos.
Go to San Diego. The Mexican food here sucks.
I’m from San Diego, and the Mexican food in Tucson is excellent! More varieties here, I think, and more home style cooking. Similar to the little restaurants in Chula Vista.
Mi Nidito. Every day.
Sonoran and Sonoran. Snorin.
more like baja californian and sonoran.
Mafooco is a winner.
Re: Judges….I think they will be local from the correspondence I received from Taco Wars.
Yes put Mafooco in the running
Mafooco has to be in on this and Angela’s, too.
Taqueria Pico de Gallo! Corn tortillas nom nom nom.
Pico, Boca, Seis Curbside – would be my three
