Howie Fischer reports that Gov. Jan Brewer wants to repair the damage to the state’s image in the wake of the passage of SB 1070:
With the state’s tourism industry under siege in the wake of a new law aimed at illegal immigrants, Gov. Jan Brewer is moving to “reposition” Arizona’s brand and image.
But no one is sure yet exactly what that involves.
Brewer met behind closed doors Thursday with representatives of about three dozen tourism groups. She said she’s not sure exactly what Arizona can do to counteract the effect of threatened boycotts in protest of the law.
Here’s an idea for helping attract out-of-state visitors: Maybe we shouldn’t shut down the state parks and eliminate general fund spending for the Department of Tourism.

The part I find most absurd is that the state is pitching in $250,000 for the re-branding effort. The AP reported this, but the Daily Star did not, for some reason. So add that $250k to the amount of money the state is going to have to spend defending this law.
Closing down the rest stations wasn’t a good idea either.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio and company will sure be busy harassing Hispanic citizens on the way to the polls in Maricopa this election season.
SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS?
We do NOT need immigration reform. We need immigration ENFORCEMENT! I have to show my ID when I board a plane and I am paying. Don’t you think people looking for government handouts should show ID proving they are here legally?
Simple question
What happens if someone jumps the fence and wanders around a gated community without an ID? I am sure a resident of the community calls the cops saying someone that doesn’t look like they belong here is roaming the streets. The cops arrive. They would ask the wanderer a few questions. And since the wanderer does not have a valid reason for being inside the gated community, the cops would escort them out, wouldn’t they? Isn’t a country, like the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, a “gated community”, too?
