Congressman Raul Grijalva (AZ03) has teamed up with the Tucson-based Center for Biological Diversity to sue the Trump administration over the proposed border wall.
The suit seeks to ensure that environmental laws—and all the red tape and studies that come with them—are enforced as Trump moves forward with his beautiful wall.
“American environmental laws are some of the oldest and strongest in the world, and they should apply to the borderlands just as they do everywhere else,” Grijalva said in a prepared statement. “These laws exist to protect the health and well-being of our people, our wildlife, and the places they live. Trump’s wall—and his fanatical approach to our southern border — will do little more than perpetuate human suffering while irrevocably damaging our public lands and the wildlife that depend on them.”
The filing in federal court comes one day after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions used a visit to Nogales to announce new Justice Department policies designed to increase criminal prosecutions of undocumented immigrants.
Center for Biological Diversity Executive Director Kieran Suckling said in a prepared statement that the proposed border wall “will divide and destroy the incredible communities and wild landscapes along the border. Endangered species like jaguars and ocelots don’t observe international boundaries and should not be sacrificed for unnecessary border militarization. Their survival and recovery depends on being able to move long distances across the landscape and repopulate places on both sides of the border where they’ve lived for thousands of years.”

I guess Trump doesn’t know about monsoon rains either. The federal government is going to owe a lot in damages when the wall causes massive flooding.
Raspberries; for Raul the border fence is a open border even with a fence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOelgf-169w
Yeah, Grijalva’s doing it for the environment. Ha, ha, ha. That’s a good one.
How come the existing hundreds of miles of border wall didn’t “divide and destroy the incredible communities and wild landscapes along the border” Mr. Suckling?
Massive development due to growth from illegal immigration does far more to destroy the environment than some little wall in the desert.
This isn’t about the environment.
Just another left wing smokescreen using a false issue to attack Trump and promote illegal immigration at all cost. Leftists are doing same with ther above face on Putin and Russia.
While the lawsuit may be good for Congressman Raul Grijalva to maintain his political base and it helps raise awareness for the Center for Biological Diversity, the current administration in Washington has clearly shown that the environment and the federal agencies and applicable laws are mere speed bumps in the way of corporate greed and exploitation.
On the plus side, history has shown again and again that trying to curb the forces of nature are about as successful as the presidents comb-over, but that won’t stop spending a whole lot of time and taxpayer money to keep a campaign promise that is about as substantial as a coyote fart in a dust devil.
Trump is spending the American taxpayers money for his grandiose ideas and his Trumpanzee followers are behind every idiotic idea that tweets out of that damaged brain. No Repubtards have said a single word about how much money is being spent daily for the security and travel expenses of the Trump family circus. Mar-A-Lago visits, Trump Tower security, International Trump trips for enhancing his business deals. At this rate the Trump Empire will be spending more money in ONE YEAR than President Obama spent in 8 years. Republicunts are always in-your-face about Democrats spending but whenever one of their own is breaking the bank they are as silent as their pledge of allegiance to the United States. Republican right wing conservatives are commie Putin azz-kissing traitors who don’t deserve to live in a Democracy!
Herculio Arrellano was arrested yesterday in Mexico and is being extradited to to Tucson to stand trial for the murder of BP agent Brian Terry. He was shot and killed by firearms that the Justice Dept under Obama had supplied to the Mexican drug cartels. He was arrested by using DNA matches from the water bottles that he left in the desert. I wonder who put those there for him?
Any balanced discussion of this issue should include consideration of the environmental costs of an unsecured border:
– Migrants and smugglers dump an estimated 2,000 tons of trash and human waste in the borderlands every year – most of it in areas where it is very difficult to remove. (See https://legacy.azdeq.gov/obep/waste.html).
– Migrants and smugglers had cut an estimated 1300 miles of wildcat trails in the borderlands as of 2006. (See https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/opini…).
-Moreover, illegal aliens and smugglers regularly set wildfires, both to summon aid or to distract CBP, destroying hundreds of acres of vegetation a year. In fact, migrants are suspected of causing many of southern Arizona’s most devastating fires of the last few years (Horseshoe 2, Monument, etc.). (See http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/arizona…).
Would a wall have some environmental impact? Sure. But so would doing nothing. Let’s try to keep some perspective on both sides of the issue.
“Any balanced discussion of this issue should include consideration of the environmental costs…”
Only in liberal la-la land Tucson, 5th poorest in the country.
Was there an environmental study for the Great Wall of China?
