Powhaus Productions have been at their Rialto Theatre-hosted events for nearly a year now, and there’s a lot to appreciate about what they’ve done—providing affordable, high concept events that anyone can attend and feel like a part of something.

A lot of cultural events in this town seem like Tucson-scaled versions of what happens in bigger cities, but Powhaus feels like something unique to our little place on Earth.

The next event in their monthly series on Nov. 27 is Solid Gold, a disco dance party (including tunes spun by TW contributor Carl Hanni), so naturally, the organizers made a mildly disconcerting YouTube video in which they lipsync (or as the kids say these days “lipdub”) to an ABBA classic.

Whether ABBA qualify as “disco” is a little debatable, but my main argument is that they should have picked a different, slightly less cliched song. “Voulez Vous,” perhaps? It has a very disco guitar lick, at very least.

Either way, I look forward to Solid Gold. Carl, if you could play George McCrae’s “You Can Have It All,” I’d appreciate it.

  1. I would love to redo Voulez Vous, but we just don’t have the budget yet for all that smoke!

Thanks for the kind words, Powhaus is working harder than ever and next year we will do less, but bigger events. We need more time between shows to execute all our ideas. We have only really been able to do about 50% of what we dream up.
