Republican Jonathan Paton, one of four GOP candidates vying to defeat Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Congressional District 8, releases this statement on the health-care vote:

It’s unfortunate that Gabrielle Giffords has decided to put loyalty to Nancy Pelosi before loyalty to her constituents with her scheduled vote today for the costly health care bill. I guess now we know why she’s received all those earmarks.

This bill is a disaster for America, and the congresswoman’s continued claims of fiscal conservatism have lost complete credibility with today’s vote. Almost as alarming as her support for this legislation is the fact that the congresswoman waited until hours before the scheduled vote to come clean about her stance. She provided no interviews and didn’t engage with the public in any meetings or town halls prior to this latest decision.

Gabrielle Giffords is already making false claims in

an effort to mislead the public and steer them away from the real facts of the bill.

She says it will be paid for and save us money. But in reality, it will grow the size of government and cost more than $1 trillion. When’s the last time a government program saved taxpayers money? Additionally, this bill certainly doesn’t meet the “Pay as you Go” requirement Gabrielle Giffords has falsely been saying she follows for the past three years.

It’s up to us to make sure voters know the truth about this bill as Giffords and her allies try to distort the facts. With her vote, Giffords has signaled to President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and scores of liberal interest groups like Code Pink and ACORN that she is counting on their money and help to reelect her in District 8.

This campaign is about finally holding Washington and Gabrielle Giffords accountable.

Over the past year, this health care bill has become an outrage; an outrage that has become a revolution. And this revolution, I promise you, on the first Tuesday in November, will lead to a shake-up in Washington the likes of which we have not seen in a generation.

  1. Hey everyone !

Let’s play a little game called “Find the Fallacies !”

You can find a list of logical fallacies here.
    http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/

Personally, I found Straw Man, Hasty Generalization, Ad Hominem Circumstantial, Appeal To Belief, Appeal to Common Practice, Appeal to Fear, Bandwagon, Begging the Question, Burden of Proof, Biased Sample, Appeal to Ignorance, Red Herring, Slippery Slope, Questionable Cause, and Ad Hominem Tu Quoque.

    Whoooooo… what a list !

Of course, some of his arguments may be inductive, but the chain of reasoning he uses to support the probability of his conclusions are fallacious.

Why did the legislature make cuts to education again?

  2. Oh, em, gee, errr…

Ah, I wouldn’t be able to prove he’s outright lying. Don’t have access to the type of information and evidence I’d need to do so.

    I’d say “insubstantiated claims”.

    :p

Just pointing out his chain of reasoning in this commentary, which is flawed in so many ways, both clear and implied. Loaded language is loaded.

  3. Paton was right. I was a fool.

Looking back at these comments I posted a couple of years later, I figure I must have had my head buried in the sand pretty deep.

    Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
