Now, there are probably easier, less-terrifying ways to chill a beer incredibly quickly, but it’s hard to ignore Alton Brown’s solution, demonstrated on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

But Alton says the salt chills the water colder than the ice. No, that’s impossible. It allows the water to cool colder than 32F without freezing solid, basically becoming almost as cold as the ice, which is already colder than 32 degrees most likely since it was frozen in a freezer at 0F.
The water with salt added can get colder than freezing, but not colder than the ice.
