At least, that’s according to the results of a poll released by Public Policy Polling, detailing a number of conspiracy theories that American voters, for whatever reason, appear to believe to varying extents.
For instance:
– 37% of voters think that global warming is a hoax;
– 20% believe that there’s a link between childhood vaccines and autism;
– 14% believe in Bigfoot;
– 5% believe that Paul McCartney died in 1966;
– 13% (including 50% of my ex-girlfriends’ mothers) think that Barack Obama is, in fact, the Anti-Christ;
– 4% believe that lizard people are trying to work their way into power;
– and 28% of voters believe that a secretive, powerful group, is conspiring to control the world — a “new world order,” so to speak.
So there you have it. A sizable number of the people Public Policy Polling called on a given day at a given time are completely insane. What I’d love to know is how many people answered in the affirmative regarding the lizard people question, but also said “9/11? Pfft. No way that was an inside job.”

I wouldn’t rule that last one out. Though I suspect more than one secretive powerful group is involved, and they have come and gone over the years. There are some that don’t even bother to keep it a secret anymore. Such is their contempt for us.
As we all know (or should know), the answers one gets in polls depend on the wording of the question. That is why we get vastly different answers in polling on the hot button issues of the day.
Take for example, your first item. I do not believe that 37% believe that global warming is a hoax. Climate change happens. This disbelief comes as to the extent it is human caused, and that tends to drive your last example, because the alleged human element is driven by money, power and control. Follow the money.
I didn’t use to believe in alien lizard people either, but then I went to the GOP delegate convention and couldn’t account for how people could behave so badly. So, there really might be lizard aliens amongst us.
Didn’t know that you were a doctor, Mendez. Or are you simply declaring people to be “completely insane” because you don’t agree with them? There’s that liberal “tolerance” on display again. What a laughable little fool you are.
I wouldn’t be too hard pressed to believe that there’s a secretive group that is trying to rule the U.S. (not the world). With the likes of the Koch bros., et. al., ALEC, and Citizens United it’s not a stretch to see a “Hidden Hand” that controls most of the current political systems of the U.S., at all levels of government.
You’re forgetting George Soros, JCC.
Polls are all about “opting in” to the poll. Otherwise you just tell the pollster to eat shit and die! Thus, polls do NOT reflect humanity, ever. The only way you might just get totally relevance is to take a clipboard and go into a parking lot and go up to every single person there and do something to get them to agree to take your poll. Even then the questions (as an intelligent commenter above said) would need to be very not directive. Otherwise, people are going to try to answer what they think you want to hear. It’s just human nature.
Also, re conspiracies, one person who I thought was brilliant, said this, “What about competing conspiracies? More than one group who wants to rule?” I think he was spot on.
I like that. Competing New World Order wannabes. Of course, both the left and the right are convinced the other side is the evil one.
1. How many voter think their cast votes are counted?
2. How many voters know in fact that ALL votes are counted?
Answer to question (1) is unknown.
Answer to question (2) in Arizona is close to zero….!
Unable to refute an idea with critical analysis? Difficulty confronting fundamental realities that change your world view? Having trouble articulating a position that successfully refutes an idea you aren’t comfortable with? No problem.
Simply sprinkle a dash of conspiracy bate over the issue and viola! You have made the problem go away with a generous application of our blanket dismissal powder. Never again will media flunkies ever have to address disparities between official statements and what pesky evidence otherwise suggests.
And if you act now, get a special blender designed to mix apples with oranges. Never be afraid to lump the most outlandish and discredited positions with those darn contradictions backed by so much evidence! Act now! All for just $19.95!
