Three Sonorans’ blogger David Morales is supporting the recently launched recall campaign against Tucson Unified School District governing board member Michael Hicks, so maybe it’s a good time to flood Tucson Citizen editor Mark Evans with calls in an effort to get rid of one of Mexican American Studies’ most steadfast activists. At least it seems that’s what Hicks is thinking, looking at a recent Facebook post of his (warning: spelling abominations ahead):

  1. He must have been homeschooled “raciest” (does he mean sexy), what does waht mean? He is a tool.

  2. I thought he was against “racey” things… You know, in an effort to protect the children, he wants the “raciest” materials kept away from them… And isn’t it about time, by gum?!

  3. I must say I am ALL for keeping “Speed Racer” cartoons out of our schools… Those are the raciest racer proponents out there… Before you know it, all of our children will have been exposed to the raciest materials around… And, OK, we do have Speedway Boulevard, but I don’t believe we are ready to claim the title of America’s “Raciest”City… I think Daytona or Indianapolis might give us a run for that title…

  4. Is this one of the 5 community members entrusted to be an educational leader? Perhaps instead of leading he may re-enroll in a basic spelling and writing class (if he ever took one). How shameful that one with such limited communication skills and basic educational essentials is allowed to ‘rule the Stegeman/Pedicone roost’. Even more shameful is that several hundred Tucsonans voted for him!

  5. How did this guy get on the board in the first place? Obviously there wasn’t a written test.

  6. He is shit-scared of a recall and is doing his best to run from his accusers. Hicks is ignorant, bigoted and has no business making policy for a school district. He believes the Reconquista nativist fantasy. This is the sad consequence of the Teabagger effort to capture local elected positions. Hicks should move to Maricopa County where he would be much happier in the company of Russell Pearce and Joe Arapio.

  7. what an ass. i agree. he is scared of losing his ”authority”. they all are. before social media they could get away with crap like this bc by the time everyone was on the same page, the book was long gone. that is no longer the case, and they feel the raising fist of a united people against them. el pueblo undio jamas sera vencido…

  8. Hicks states his comments were taken out of context and the interview was edited for humor rather than to inform. What, exactly was the misdirection? In The Daily Show interview, Hicks used complete sentences when talking about how he did not attend any MAS classes, – his info was based on hearsay, that only the MAS class was targeted, and his belief that feeding students burritos would build an [undesirable] bond to the teacher. I’m so glad I don’t have children attending that district…

  9. Tucson eh ? Yep a bastion of intelligent discourse and a well informed citizenry ….yeah i’ll be moving there presently ….JEEZ these yahoos have set Tucson back 50 years ! YIKES !
