Mark Kelly issues a statement on today’s shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard:

Gabby and I are holding the victims of today’s massacre at the Washington Navy Yard in our thoughts and prayers, and we know that nothing will bring solace to the families who lost loved ones. As the hours and days pass, Americans should match their anger and sadness with gratitude for the sailors, Marines, civilians and first responders who are acting with courage today and support for the injured who have such a long road ahead. Gabby and I have been there. In times like this, it’s the ultimate affirmation to have a nation behind you.

And as proud members of the Navy family, we take note of the tragic fact that this terrible attack on men and women who dedicate themselves to keeping America safe did not occur in a war overseas — but in a mass shooting here at home.

  1. And did not occur as a terrorist outsider attack but from an American with an anger management problem bad enough that they threw him out of the Navy. Why did he have the weapons to easily get in there and do this??? He had mental health issues that were know.

  2. What’s to learn besides “Gun Free Zones” are not safe…?

nutridawg…We do not know what weapons he had when he went in. If the rifle was purchased from a gun shop, we’d already know about it, and would be seeing interviews with the Gun Shop owner.

  3. The people in the USA will never learn, just last week the NRA and 21 Republicans states are trying to pass a bill where 16/18 yo can purchase guns. According the the NRA that age group is being denied their 2nd amendments rights. This is so crazy. How long can this extreme organization continue to use the 2nd amendment to help fund its organization.
