In an instance of something taking the crown of being among the coolest videos I’ve watched since I started working at Tucson Weekly, it’s time to take a look at this video of Marvin Gaye performing “Heard It Through the Grapevine” in an empty room, with no backing — and sounding amazing.
Seriously. Check the video out. It’s not new by any means, having been uploaded in 2007, but it seems to have fallen into a cycle of being discovered and rediscovered every few years, and sounding spectacular every time.

So freakin’ cool…

Next: Native New Yorker – Odyssey (1977)
I got all into searching these over the weekend. I thought some of these artists would be exposed for not being as talented vocally as first believed. Every one that i found met or exceeded expectations when no music was behind the voice. Best of all was dear ol Marvin. (Kurt Cobain and McCartney some other notables)
No pitch correction here.
I wonder if the gaps between verses indicate a recorded backing line was lifted or was meant to be inserted later.
Marvin a trouble man who gave alot to many
thanx….
