A new bill in the Arizona legislature would make it a felony for anyone to collect mail-in ballots and drop them off at a polling place. Because, Voter Fraud.

Now, there’s plenty of evidence no evidence whatsoever of voter fraud when people pick up ballots. None. People could be sorting through the ballots they pick up and throwing some of them away, but, no evidence.

However, one thing is indisputable, according to Rep. J.D. Mesnard, R-Chandler.

“What is indisputable is that many people believe it’s happening,” he said. “You can’t really argue with that. And I think that matters.”

Nope, can’t argue with that. Some people believe it’s happening. And that’s good enough for me J.D. Mesnard.

There you have it. When you’re a Republican, facts don’t matter. It’s what some people think, with absolutely no evidence, that matters. I could go down the long list of faith-based Republican “facts,” but why bother?

A “Comic Stylings of J.D. Mesnard” Bonus Feature: Back in 2009, Mesnard was working for Senate Republicans as Staff Policy Advisor. He put out a delightfully deceptive list of facts showing that Arizona’s education funding was just fine, thank you. The list had lots of comic moments, but this one is my favorite.

We are 26th in funding per classroom of students.

Not bad, eh? 26th. Right in the middle. How dare anyone say we don’t support our kids’ educations?

Let’s see, how do you compute the “funding per classroom of students”? You count the number of kids in a classroom and multiply it by the amount of funding per student. So every time you add a student, you increase the “funding per classroom.” At the time, Arizona was 50th in student-teacher ratio, meaning we had more students in each class than any other state in the nation.

I don’t know why Mesnard didn’t take the next step and recommend we put ten more kids in every class so we could be NUMBER ONE IN FUNDING PER CLASSROOM OF STUDENTS! (We’re Number One! We’re Number One! We’re Number One! )

  1. For once the Republican Party is on the mark! The “Collection” of mail-in-ballots is an invitation for Voter Fraud, with a preferential sorting of Ballots, and should be prevented!!

Do you really think, Mr. Safier, that corrupt Politicians, in Pima County the Democratic Party, would NOT use this “technique” associated with so-called ” Election Pizza Parties” to influence the Election Results? Let’s get Real!!!!!!

  2. The party that cried fraud first has no desire to stop it. They want to continue to cry.

That’s why the Democratic voter fraud of “losing” the military vote was never pursued. Two faced liars.

  3. Factcheck.org on the 2012 Election when military votes were not counted:

WASHINGTON, DC – Sources confirmed today that hundreds of thousands of military absentee ballots were delivered hours after the deadline for them to be counted, with preliminary counts showing that they would have overturned the vote in several states and brought a victory for Governor Mitt Romney.

Officials say the ballots were delivered late due to problems within the military mail system. Tracking invoices show the ballots sat in a warehouse for a month, then they were accidentally labeled as ammunition and shipped to Afghanistan. At Camp Dwyer, Marine Sergeant John Davis signed for them and was surprised at the contents.

“I told Gunny we got a bunch of ballots instead of ammo,” Davis told investigators earlier today. “He told me to file a report of improper delivery and that the chain of command would take care of it. We didn’t hear anything for three weeks. While we were waiting we came under fire so we dumped a bunch of them in the Hescoes. We didn’t dig those ones back out.”

  4. Tucson Weekly better start getting ready for their next President Donald Trump. Haha there is no way in hell Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders are gonna win. That is the truth.

  5. Hey Rat T, my vote was one of those left in a warehouse. Who knows how many times my overseas votes were just discarded into the “system” aka trash.

When I came back and voted in the States for the first time in at least 5 years, I had to have two pieces of mail from utilities to my address and a driver’s license with matching address, they did not make it easy, and in my 5 years up north in Phoenix, I somehow never made it on the “list”.

I have zero faith in our current election system, I think we need to start inking up thumbs like in Afghanistan with UN observers at this point.

  6. They can’t stop me this year. Changed from Independent to Republican for the first time, the kind commenters and authors of the Range and Weekly assisted in this decision.

    Trump 2016.

  7. OPV I ashamed of what has been done to the military votes as they fought for our country. My apologies to you sir. We have never had a definitive investigation.

  8. Same old song and dance, voter fraud. Well no actual cases but there is a possibility so lets put a hole in the dike and then plug it because that way we will be certain if any water comes down the channel it won’t escape. What a bunch of hogwash not one proven case of what Rep. J.D. Mesnard thinks he is protecting us from. Anything to build up a wall between a citizen and their duty to vote. Eighty-six years old and no drivers license or passport, no problem we’ll let you vote bring in two witnesses to your birth. Before we put up anymore roadblocks to voting lets make sure it’s not just plain voter suppression that the Republicans are seeking. We had this whole battle a couple years ago and the Republicans had to repeal their enactment of the same election laws before the people did. Back again in the name of ‘I think it could happen’. Just give us the “good old days” all you needed was the title to your land, the election judges could see if you were a white male and eligible to vote. Sure narrowed down chances of voter fraud.

  9. Rat, you’re either a complete liar or a very bad reader. Here’s how that http://factcheck.org post starts out:

Q: Did military absentee ballots arrive a day late, swinging the election in favor of President Obama?
A: No. This rumor is based on a satirical post on a blog that specializes in “faux news.”

So Old Pueblo Veteran, no your votes were not lost. That story is complete and utter bullshit just like all these endless Republican allegations of voter fraud.

  10. An initial review of the video of the elections committee hearing provides clear evidence that House Republicans, conspiring with the Office of the Secretary of State, are manufacturing a false narrative designed to subvert a popular referendum. That false narrative, as Bslap indicated, is bullshit. And Bullshit is a valid concept. http://press.princeton.edu/titles/7929.htm…

  11. Good job bslap! Thanks for digging into that one. But you left out one possibility for Rat T’s misinformation–classic manipulation of the news through partial reporting.

  12. Kneejerk reactionaries? Try reading the NY Times that conservative bastion of freedom:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Nov. 20— Retreating under fire from Republicans, Florida’s attorney general, a top ally of Vice President Al Gore, said today that local officials should count absentee ballots from overseas military voters that were thrown out because they lacked postmarks.

Republican criticism, though, focused particularly on what election officials said was the most common problem, failure to have a postmark. That seemed particularly galling to critics, since military mail can be sent without a postmark.

    The Baltimore Sun:

WASHINGTON – The rejection of more than 1,500 overseas ballots by county elections officials in Florida – hundreds of them from military personnel who were expected to side mostly with George W. Bush – was sharply criticized yesterday by veterans organizations, retired officers and even Democratic lawmakers who said the ballots should be recounted.

    Time Magazine:

It’s emerging as one of the first lessons learned from this election fiasco: Democrats can’t afford to step on military toes.

Monday, reversing an earlier hard-line stance, Florida’s Democratic attorney general urged canvassing boards to include ballots from overseas military personnel — even if the ballots were not correctly postmarked. “No man or woman in the military service of this nation should have his or her vote rejected solely due to the absence of a postmark,” Bob Butterworth told reporters. Overseas military ballots are often mailed without postmarked or postmarked late because of geographic or security restraints…

So,…when Democrats commit vote fraud it’s called “stepping on toes,”…but doesn’t it exemplify just what they think of our military?

Satirical blogs? Look at the sources. You are fooling nobody but yourselves.

  13. Nothing like that could happen here in Arizona if we leave things just as they are, no need to worry about ballots lost in the mail, we can collect them and hand deliver them ourselves. Saves on postage and gives us a chance to sort through on the way to the elections office to turn them in. Does anyone really believe that? Come on, you know it’s just another excuse to limit voting. And by the way, who accused anyone of being a kneejerk reactionary? {A sudden involuntary reflex kick caused by a blow on the tendon just below the knee.} I guess the same could be said about a liberal. No wait, liberals are thinking people.

  14. So. Illegal Aliens do not use someone else’s social security number to work?

California is handing out driver’s licenses to illegals, it’s the law there.

My vote was lost and disregarded. Period. I used to vote Democratic more than Republican.

Want to know how I know both side of the system? I went door to door with for the Democratic Party to stump for Kerry. We went in groups of two and one of us always had to speak Spanish.

The van loads of suddenly registered voters who didn’t speak English were given free food, T-Shirts and swag. I personally never saw any payments, but my disdain from Bush W’s second term outweighed my need to investigate.

SO, you can spout your nonsense about Repubs vs Democrats – I have seen and been both sides, and both of them are destructive to the average American.

I am and always will be an Independent. I am also voting Trump 2016. I registered as a Republican for the first time to vote in the primary, nothing will stand in my way this time.

If you care about the facade of Democracy the electronic voting machines must be phased out.

  15. Old Pueblo Veteran that is absolutely true, undocumented workers used other people’s social security numbers working the cotton and lettuce crops in Marana for years. The money many times was paid to the federal government and actually went into the Social Security Trust Fund. It has been said however, not all of the money withheld was actually turned over to the government. As for your door to door effort one person had to speak Spanish. I wonder if that was in case one of the people you met going door to door had a question about something they received in the mail from a government agency that was written in Spanish you would be prepared to answer it for them. At the same time you lock down the electronic voting machines disconnect the street lights as they light up the darkness. You seem to want to stay confused, Democrat, Independent, then Republican to vote for Trump? You had much better judgment in your youth going door to door for Kerry.

  16. Bernie Sanders just accused Hillary Clinton of committing vote fraud in Iowa yesterday. It just doesn’t get any funnier than this.

  17. LOL at hakeson. Trump is the first outsider we have had since Perot.

Kerry ended up being nothing special either.

Don’t try to push that migrant worker paying into the pool net positive economic contribution. Our government just shelled out BILLIONS ins illegal refunds to illegals in tax returns. There is no way they will ever break even with the use of education and healthcare. Hell, they even get scholarships for illegals and in state tuition now.

I am visiting my interests this election, and my interests are a better America. If you think comrade Bernie or Hillary is going to make America great again, you should not be allowed to vote.
