State Rep. Victoria Steele is full-on running for Congress, and she really wants to unseat U.S. Rep. Martha McSally in Congressional District 2.

Steele, a Democrat from Tucson, officially launched her campaign website earlier today and issued this statement:

I am excited to share with you that I’m running for Congress.

I have been your strong voice in the Arizona State House of Representatives and now I want to fight for you in the United States Congress – District 2.

CD2 has been well served in the past by the transformational leadership of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Congressman Ron Barber. With your help, I will build on their legacies in the United State Congress.

I grew up believing that in the United States, if you work hard and play by the rules, you deserve a fighting chance at success. I’m running for Congress because today the deck is stacked in favor of those at the top – they’ve broken that promise of the American Dream. We need to return to that promise of opportunity for all Americans.

Her priorities will include fostering jobs with livable wages, protecting Social Security and Medicare, making college affordable, reducing debt for students, and protecting women’s rights. She is also a strong advocate against human trafficking.

Last month, Steele announced on her Facebook that she was interested in running. At the time, she said she was deeply humbled by the large number of people who had asked her to consider running for Congress. “The folks I have met believe their voices have been silenced by dark money that put millions into the last election,” she said at the time. “They are discouraged and disgusted with what is happening and they are running out of hope.”

(In another Facebook post, she also expressed discontent for McSally’s continuous opposition to granting women abortion rights.)

The National Republican Congressional Committee’s Regional Press Secretary Zach Hunter issued this statement:

Just one day after Martha McSally announced a staggering $1M fundraising quarter, extreme liberal Victoria Steele has announced her candidacy in AZ-02.

Victoria Steele is just another out of touch liberal who is eager to blindly march to the beat of Nancy Pelosi’s drum. Steele is simply too partisan and too far left for 2nd District families.

Other potential Democrats running for the seat are former state lawmaker Matt Heinz and Nan Walden, a former D.C. attorney, according to a write up by Jim Nintzel.

McSally unseated Ron Barber in a very close race last year.

  1. I notice that she failed to comment on Bill Cosby’
s admission that he drugged women and then sexually assaulted them. I though the least the Democrats would do is stand up for women’s rights and denounce him, get his TV show cancelled and remove the Cosby flag from NBC.

But…the silence is deafening. Apparently you CAN have it both ways in their America.

  2. I wonder if she supports sacrificing the lives of Americans for illegal immigrants?

And does she accept the facts and responsibility that up to 80% of all the women coming across the border illegally are raped.

But small prices to pay for the liberal agenda, well, at least if the victims are white.

  3. Awesome news I’m too far away to volunteer but I will send a donation

  4. Victoria is a bright, compassionate, and competent leader. While I don’t live in her district, I am going to support her campaign. (Given some of the comments, I want to add that I’m an older white man who is not bitter and those who fear some far-fetched “liberal agenda.”)

  5. Just another liberal parrot. Higher wages, reducing student debt, making college affordable…etc…How about getting businesses in Tucson so the people can work so they can get a wage otherwise all just the same old promise the moon until I get your vote then see ya. Oh and what is this stuff about protecting social security? It wouldn’t have to be protected if obama wouldn’t give it to the illegals and people that didn’t earn it and medicare……obama has already robbed it for his unaffordable healthcare garbage. Are you going to get it back and put it back into the medicare fund?

  6. wow…so many haters on this page…maybe some of you would be happier in Phoenix? You sound so much like sheriff Joe…wouldn’t you rather live closer to the privileged lifestyle you seem to be pining for?

  7. i had the privilege of meeting Victoria Steele and working with her at Arizona Town Hall, she is a class act! Later, when I mentioned that I met her to a conservative Republican representative, she too opined that Victoria Steele is a close friend and colleague and that she respected her. I am delighted that we have qualified and competent individuals willing to represent us in Congress. I wish her well and will support her.

  8. Victoria Steele is bright, articulate, concerned for all the people of southern Arizona and beyond, whom she would serve as well — and that is very well indeed — in Congress as she has in our legislature. She works well with others and is not inclined toward overuse of the first person pronoun. For the record, she has worked nearly all her adult life here in Tucson and I think we would benefit from being served in Washington by one of our own, as we have been in the past by Stewart and Mo Udall, Jim McNulty, Jim Kolbe, Gabby Giffords and Ron Barber. Thank you, Victoria, for stepping up to the plate for us.

  9. I was going to comment on an amazing lady who works very hard for us in the State Legislature. Victoria Steele is one political sharp not a run of the mill politician who is willing to take on tough tasks. After reading some of the other remarks of people with their knives out to paint a picture of a flaming “liberal” all one has to do is look at her record of public service. At best Representative Steele is a progressive moderate working with all stripes of people to produce the very best results for all of us. Victoria Steele will do us proud as the next Congresswoman from Southern Arizona. Let’s stick to facts, discuss issues and not paint false pictures in what is going to be a long hard fought political battle for our votes. For once, dream on, put nothing but issues and public service records on the table for us to determine our next Representative in Congress.
So far not one person including the current Congresswoman, Martha McSally,
measures up to Representative Victoria Steele in the area of service to our community. Look around and ask each candidate, where are you from, and what roots do you have to our community?

  10. “jobs with livable wages, protecting Social Security and Medicare, making college affordable, reducing debt for students, and protecting women’s right”

If people have livable wages and women have rights, communism is right around the corner.

  11. bs–is right!
“jobs with livable wages, protecting Social Security and Medicare, making college affordable, reducing debt for students, and protecting women’s right”

If people have livable wages and women have rights, communism is right around the corner.

bslap, I got it. You are opposed to “jobs with livable wages, protecting Social Security and Medicare, making college affordable, reducing debt for students and protecting women’s rights”

bs, Now tell us what you are in favor of…

Do you speak for Martha McSally? Is she really against,
“jobs with livable wages, protecting Social Security and Medicare, making college affordable, reducing debt for students, and protecting women’s right”?

Or is that some BS you made up? That Communist threat stuff isn’t going to work, folks under 40 don’t even know what you are talking about.

  12. I would like to hear her ideas for saving social security. But first, why does social security have to be saved? What went wrong? Did we hold anybody accountable? They have raised the retirement age before, would she do it again?

So the way to save social security is to keep it away from the people? Why would anybody under 40 consider voting for that?

  13. They, who raised the retirement age, were the Republicans… put up to it by the Heritage Foundation and others who support the big banks and want to privatize SS retirement plans. Just saying… You think McSAlly is not in that camp? You might be in the wrong party, Rat, if you are worried about your regular gov’t check….

  14. Twas the Republicans who raised the age of Retirement… put up to it by the likes of the Heritage Foundation, Big Banks and others who wanted to privatize SS investments. Remember W’s suggestion that we put it all in the stock market? Just before the big crash? If you are worried about your gov’t handout, maybe you should consider Victoria Steele’s ideas over McSally’s.

  15. Spend it before it’s all gone? That’s referred to as the Greecian Formula. The Dem Congress spent SS in the 70s and 80s. Own it.

  16. McSally won by a meager less than 200 votes by no means a land slide victory, I hope this lady wins, Arizona needs to put the republicans in a time out for a while they have proven themselves less than competent at best and at worst down right incompetent!

  17. It’s hard to believe in any politician these days. They all say the things we want to hear but when push comes to shove, it’s business as usual. The only way to bring high paying jobs to Tucson is to concentrate on some industry other than tourism. That’s the reason our wages are so low now, too many unskilled jobs and too many uneducated people.

  18. I recently attended a function where McSally was guest speaker. McSally cut short of describing herself as a God. I wasn’t in the least impressed by her. As a matter of fact, I don’t have the slightest idea of how in the world she ever got elected. Then all of a sudden it dawned on me, the only reason she was elected, is because she ran against that crazy old guy by the name of Ron Barber. The voters had no other alternative, It was either the idiot, or the wanna be goddess.

  19. I doubt it but Brian Williams of MSNBC says he has 20 or 30 times. It’s a vast left wing conspiracy. In fact it’s leader Hillary said she took incoming fire once. Turned out be a car that backfired. She never got a chance to correct her story because those emails were lost.
