Republican Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Thomas has unveiled his border-security plan. It includes a wall that stretches across the state—and it appears big chunks of Southern Arizona will be left on Mexico’s side of the wall. Howie Fischer reports:
The majority of the land along Arizona’s 376-mile border with Mexico is controlled by the federal government and Native American reservations, primarily the Tohono O’odham Nation. Thomas said fencing along the border is the ideal scenario, but acknowledged that he may not be able to get federal and tribal permission to put fencing on the land they control.
If he can’t get permission, Thomas said he would use a “fallback line,” which would fence off areas further north, along the border with federal and tribal land.
“And we will build the fence as necessary here to funnel the drug and human trafficking network up into an area that is much easier to corral and to control. With a combination of troops and fencing, we can get that job done. This is what it’s going to take,” he said.
In some areas, the fence would actually be about 200 miles north of the Mexican border. Thomas said checkpoints would monitor road traffic through the fenced-off area.
Thomas denied that his fallback line would wall off a substantial chunk of southern Arizona.
“They’ll be able to get through, through roads,” he said. “If you’ve driven along the border, there already are checkpoints. So really what you’re doing is to the extent that we have to move farther north, that’s what we’d be doing.”

Gee, great way to get Southern Az voters.

The mind of the person that wants you to make him Governor of Arizona came up with what he said above. I can’t squint hard enough to make those words form anything resembling a coherent thought.
Did this guy get disbarred for dumb-thinking? Would not surprise me. Perhaps he should erect a fence around his home and stay on the inside. Ldonyo said it well.
This guy is one of my choices for being my Governor? So, that one person that is part of his political campaign did not tell him how much of a horrible idea this is? I have not been paying much attention to the Republican primary race, but maybe I need to start finding out if there are any sane people running on the GOP side.
Building a wall isn’t going to stop the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S. This problem could have been solved many, many, years ago. How complicated would it be if everyone agreed to refuse work to anyone without legal status in this country. The real problem is greed and the solution is to bring those responsible for the hiring of undocumented aliens to justice.
How strategic to feature the Eleanor Clift of Phoenix, the slimy Howie Fischer. I have read Thomas’ detailed proposal on the fencing, and no where does it specify distances from the border. The “200 mile” figure thrown in by Fischer (or the poster) is ludicrous (the entire basis for the hit piece) and intended as propaganda to defeat Thomas. We’re seeing one huge lie after another daily by the Gannett reconquistas KPHX and Repugnant, touting they know more than the Center for Immigration Studies and F.A.I.R. on the hard numbers. The massive Treason Lobby is scared to death of Thomas, so expect anything and everything before the election – including the kitchen sink. Patriots, DON’T be fooled.
