The Arizona Republic just called the race.
That’s what Democratic candidate Rodney Glassman just told the crowd over here at Hotel Congress. Yes, what is now looking like John McCain’s challenger, left the Maverick, where his campaign party is taking place, to join his fellow Dems.
“This is going to be a tough race, because we are going to go up against a U.S. Senator that just spent $20 million to win this primary – $20 million that did not come from working Arizonans,” Glassman said.
“We all know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again,” he said about his challenger. “But this race is not going to be about Republican and Democrats as much as John McCain. … When I believe in the woman’s right to choose, while John McCain doesn’t believe that even in cases of rape or incest …”
“We have Arizonans excited about something new, about something different,” Glassman said.
Now this was the interesting part – think it’s a new kind of volunteer Glassman has here – a Stepford volunteer. He ended his speech saying he and his volunteers want to make this the “greatest state to live, work and raise a family.”
The volunteers repeated live, work and raise a family. John Dougherty is up – stay tuned.

It’s too bad that the Star and the Republic, not to mention AZ Public Media — is it for real? — so muffled their reporting. They had the goods on Glassman. I mean, they had him good. Many people sent them the reports throughout the campaign. They simply refused to do their job as a responsible press.
Now the unions and the many people with hands held out whom Glassman greased will have to live with two responsibilities: first, Glassman’s inevitable loss to McCain (when you have a choice between a real Republican and an ersatz one, the real one always wins); and second, a huge hole in the Democratic Party ticket. Glassman’s less-than-personable ways will drag down every other Democratic candidate including the excellent Terry Goddard. The Democratic Establishment in Arizona really knows how to call ’em. No wonder the Republicans can carry the state with only a third of the registered voters!
Maybe next time authentic Democratic partisans will take over, do some strategizing, and think collectively, earning victories that are best for all Democratic candidates and Arizonans. The days of being hypnotized by big money being waved in the face are OVER.
