Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly capped a week in the spotlight of the gun-violence debate by jumping aboard the Hillary Clinton bandwagon. Giffords posted her argument in favor of Clinton on Medium. An excerpt:
Most of the people running for president talk a lot about how tough they are. But most of them have shown they aren’t tough enough to stand up to the gun lobbyists.
Take it from me: Talk is cheap.
In fact, a lot of the people running for president seem downright terrified to even have a rational conversation about the problem of gun violence in America. We’ve listened closely to all of them, and we’ve looked at all of their records.
Only one candidate for president has the determination and toughness to stand up to the corporate gun l0bby — and the record to prove it. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.
Time and time again, Hillary has done and said what is right, not what is politically expedient. That’s why Mark and I are supporting her for President of the United States.
As a United States Senator, Hillary voted for laws that keep guns out of the wrong hands and make our communities safer places to live. She voted against protecting gun manufacturers at all costs and insisted on putting the safety of our communities over manufacturers’ bottom lines. And we believe that as president she will continue working to respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners like us while working to achieve practical solutions like a reliable background check system that prevents dangerous people from getting guns, closing loopholes to protect women and families by keeping guns out of the hands of abusers and stalkers, and cracking down on the illegal gun trade.
Hillary and I share a proud tradition of women leading on issues that impact all Americans and getting things done. We have taken on tough races, relied on other strong women to have our backs — and we have never, ever shied away from a tough fight or a tough vote.
Today, Mark and I are proud to have Hillary’s back, and to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with her to, once and for all, break the stranglehold the corporate gun lobby has had on American politics — and American families — for too long.
Speaking is still physically difficult for me. I do hours and hours of speech therapy. And in January, I hope to call my friend Hillary ‘Madam President.’

Well Gabby youve come full circle from “working with..” to being downright against 1/2 of the people you used to Represent. Nice going.. Yes, I am a former constituent.. and am VERY disappointed.
Gabby promised voters she would secure the border. Sorry Gabby, I now know it was all talk. Hillary may be going to jail but it looks like you have no problem with her **** poor efforts to keep classified information of our country classified.
But go ahead and endorse her. It shows your true identity.

While I disagree with Gabby’s and Mark’s endorsement of Mrs. Clinton, I respect their right to do so and am a bit disgusted — though hardly surprised — by the tenor of the previous posts.
One subject not very popular these days I would like to bring to the table. During her service as a Congresswoman, I seeked assistance from Congresswoman Gifford’s office.
I was attempting to complete the process of recongition for an 89 year old retired USAF Colonel who happen to be a WWII veteran of Bataan and Corregikdor on the Philippine Islands.
The Colonel earned the Bronze Star Medal (OLC) and Combat Infantrym Badge for his service during the campaignaccording to applicalbe guidelines.
The Colonel went to Arlington National Cemetery without full honors by his country.
Another veteran, a retired USAAF/USA Captain experienced the same results form her office. He was buried without full honors.
Gun control is one thing, ignoring and forgetting out veterans is another.
Bernie Sanders is much more nuanced and rational about the parameters of the “gun control” wedge issue. I’m sure that if you’d bothered to talk to him, Gabby and Mark, he could have satisfied you with his real positions.
But of course, Gabby was always a “pro-choice republican” so I’m not surprised that she prefers one of her own “conservative”, pro-war, pro-BIG-business breed…
The Hillary(tm) is ready to drift along with whatever wind her handlers think will get her the nomination and then would drift along with the new wind her handlers think will work in the General.
And then if she were to “win” the office, she would be fearful to continue even the tiny (good) tinkering that Obama’s doing (to set the electoral stage for her and “save his legacy”). It would get in the way of her prodigious efforts to continue and expand wars and funnel more wealth to her friends on Wall Street and Wal-Mart and the Fortun(at)e 400.
FIRST: Since the republiKlans are terrified of the NRA and have effectively gerrymandered the country into putting them in power in the House (for a while) even though they can’t get a majority of the popular vote, NOTHING will be done by the Feds about any forms of gun control…no matter WHO is (s)elected pResident this November.
2nd: Since it’s such a fine, useful, relatively irrelevant wedge issue and fund raising tool for both right-wings of the Duopoly(tm), no rational discussion about the flood of private arms can be had in this insane country…
I wonder if they will withdraw their endorsement once she’s indicted?
With all of her Watergate experience, you would have thought that she was smarter than this.
Sorry, but nobody in their right mind wants a Clinton back in the White House. I have supported Mark and Gabby in a lot of ways, but I can’t back them up on this one. I don’t care how much Hil pretends to support their cause, she’ll flip-flop on that when the money that comes from the wrong side is right. I know that this is the same reason to keep Jeb & The Donald away from the oval office also. I’d rather see Bernie take charge.

How the Democrats think that Hillary is a viable candidate after her actions, and inactions, over the past 30 years defies reality.
How VP Joe Biden has not entered the race is still astounding to me. He just doesn’t have the baggage that Hillary has and is a more legitimate contender than Comrade Free College Bernie Glassberg.
