Stephen Colbert takes a look at Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s plan to use armed volunteers to keep schoolchildren safe. Says Colbert as he watches a clip of the posse members undertaking a drill while a student hides beneath a table: “Arizona has some great schools. Those are just eighth-graders, but they’re clearly being traumatized at the 12th-grade level.”
This article appears in Feb 7-13, 2013.

The posse includes members who have charges of child molestation on their records. That’s one hell of a background check that Arpaio conducts, either that or he knows and he just doesn’t care.
We’ve had the “gun-free school zones” for some time and they don’t work to protect children. So why not give this a try? At least give it a chance to fil before critisizing it. I know MANY retired military and police who are looking to fill their retirement years with some sense of purpose besides standing in a Walmart wearing a blue vest and greeting people at the front door.
So Victory, are you suggesting that we have elderly slow moving people at the schools to protect against something that happens in seconds. I hope their oxygen tanks are on wheels!
The spot on Colbert was spot on and exposes the program for what is it–nonsense.
