My grandmothers used to say “two wrongs do not make a right” and if there was ever a clearer example this “cartoon” is it.
The claim by the president that he is being “lynched” by the Democratic Party is classic Trump using hyperbole of the highest — or lowest order, depending on your point of view — with a full measure of racism that only he can get away with.
However; there is a time and place, as well as appropriate mediums and venues for conversations that are so hurtful and vile to Americans that have suffered and are still suffering crimes that have left a permanent mark on the history of this nation and scars that cannot be forgotten with wishful thinking and empty platitudes.
I fully support the First Amendment and freedom of speech, but just like yelling fire in a crowded theater is not protected, using a vision of a racially-driven murder and method of domestic terrorism for an editorial jab is yelling fire in a crowded theater.
“People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.” — Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855)
democrats say they are upset that trump used the term lynching. democrats and the media say trump is a racist for using that horrible term. same as jews say it is anti-Semitic to compare the holocaust to anything like the armenian genocide ;however plenty of democrats both black and white called the impeachment of bubba clinton a lynching! Biden used the term lynching too! people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stone. google democrats using the term lynching the audio is all over talk radio.
Biden and Nadler used the term lynching while defending Bill Clinton and now they denounce it. I long for the good old days where they lied about Russian influence in the 2016 election to defend Hillary.
Why do people defend these opportunists? They are truly disgusting.
Political cartoons are meant to grab the reader by the emotional throat and shake him. This one does a good job of that. I grew up in completely segregated Texas. I was born in 1938 and the Democrats had been in power for a long time. In 1931 there had been a lynching in my home town. Although I obviously knew people who were involved with it, it was never mentioned in the white community. Never. There are children graduating high school today who have never hear about lynchings. While rude, the cartoon is well within the boundaries of free speech.
Now the political parties have swung in opposite directions. The Republicans are now the prime purveyors of hate, racism, xenophobia, bigotry, and stupidity. Not all Republicans, just the Trumpistas.
They are powerful, irrational, self deceivers, who can’t wait to lick Trump’s shoe soles. They are zealots for negative things that are going to pull down our Republic if they continue in power.
Mr. Gandy,
While I stand by my comments, I understand your statement and I fully support your different perspective, especially based on your personal experience growing up in the time and place you describe.
It is too bad our so-called political leaders cannot open their eyes or minds to realize that not everyone has the same point of view and that respectfully acknowledging others freedoms and rights is the basis of our country.
Trying to make everyone think and feel the same way and fall into line with a single leader is the antithesis of America.
sgs, it’s only the right wing that is trying to get us to think from a single point of view. We have many leaders that don’t. You can see them, can’t you?
Mr. Groves,
Ask Hillary. She and her BFF Deborah Wasserman Schultz froze Bernie Sanders out of the 2016 race and she is trying to poison the well with Tulsi Gabbard this time around.
“It takes a lot of work to lose to Donald Trump.” — David Axelrod
sgs agree with you groves is whats wrong with democrats when you look into the abyss groves the abyss looks into you. democrats are not saints even if republicans are evil.
This is exactly how politicians are stealing from us. Just watch all that attack Trump over this practice.
Romney is next. Old Pierre Delecto. Lucky Pierre isn’t going to be so lucky.
I wish it was an actual LYNCHING rather than just an expression of outrage. Impeachment is too good for that phony, lying, stealing, Manchurian candidate play acting as our Thief in Chief. He has more connection to Vladimir Putin, Erdogan, Kim, and Xi than he does to the U.S. and Democracy. If Impeachment doesn’t get rid of that lying vermin then it’s an effen waste of time!
