The National Republican Congressional Committee has made a major ad buy on behalf of Jesse Kelly, who is facing Democrat Ron Barber in the race to determine who finishes Gabrielle Giffords’ congressional term. National Journal reports:

The National Republican Congressional Committee will begin airing TV ads in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District tomorrow. The $150,000 buy will run for two weeks beginning April 27, according to a GOP source.

This marks the unofficial kickoff of the special general election to replace ex-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who resigned in January. GOP nominee Jesse Kelly won his party’s nod a week ago, and both parties are sure to pour resources into the Republican-leaning district in advance of the special election in June.

If we had to guess, we’d say that the ad will focus on Barber’s recent call for changes in the Affordable Care Act.

Our in-depth look at the candidates here.

  1. You cant tell us your “this that or the other” and then FLIPFLOP just before the election – its called LYING. Barber may be a good guy, but, he’s not truthful or more importantly he’s NOT Gabby Giffords which was his ONLY plus. Take that PLUS away and he’s just another guy vying for a seat…and …baldfaced lying to get it.

  2. Talk about liars, We Don’t Need MESSY SMELLY(OOPS) I mean Jesse Kelly in CD8 or CD2!
Of my memory serves me well Mr. Kelly’s last campaign featured a rally at a Riflry range with comments to effect of him sayinf Let’s get rid of Gabby Giffords! He’s nothing but a bottom feeder!
Barber has more ties to the district and the city of Tucson! NO TO KELLY!

  3. I suspect both GuiseppeKnows and Bob Cap are gentlemen with whom I might enjoy light-hearted banter over a beer or two. I’d carefully keep the conversation away from politics, however, since they seem to equate speaking in full sentences with caveats about extremely serious and sensitive matters of public policy with lying. I’m quite confident their preferred candidate in the special election underway in CD 8 is not lying when he says we should all fend for ourselves in caring for our health, that health care is a privilege in this society, that Medicare recipients are ‘on the dole’, or that this country’s petroleum reserves far exceed those of Saudi Arabia. Not lying and also not serious or sensible. My favorite among the interesting quartet of competitors for the Republican nomination in this election, Colonel McSally, had it right when she suggested to Mr. Kelly that he go back to school and get a degree in geology…. or anything, even perish the thought political science or constitutional law.
