We mentioned yesterday that Congressman Ron Barber was airing his first TV ad of the 2012 general elecion season.
Today, his Republican challenger, Martha McSally, has debuted her first ad. It’s a positive spot that focuses on her experience in the Air Force as a combat pilot and her promise to provide leadership and bring people together.
McSally has also earned “Young Gun” status with the National Republican Congressional Committee, which could lead to more campaign dollars flowing in her direction.

“Young Gun” or not, I’m waiting for Ms McSally to clearly state her position on a woman’s right to legal abortion, on women’s right to easy access to basic health care and access to birth control. Ms McSally broke multiple glass ceilings for women in the AF. I want to know if she’s willing to state the case for maintaining a woman’s right to choose whether or not to decide to abort a pregnancy for reasons that she and her provider have made together, in the privacy of the clinical office. I want to know what her position is on making basic women’s health care accessable, and birth control and education available, in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies. She broke through multiple glass ceilings in the Air Force. Will she stand by women in maintaining the rights they’ve already attained?

Truly doubt it.
Because she’s a Republican?
A few key quotes from her website, offered without comment:
“The wasteful, spending programs of recent years cannot continue. The Bailouts, TARP, Obamacare – it all has to go.”
“We face powerful and determined threats across the globe. […] America cannot allow our enemies unfettered access to the vast ungoverned regions of our planet.”
“I believe in the sanctity of every human life.”
“The cost of medical malpractice insurance is driving doctors out of business and patients to the poorhouse.”
“Our dependence of foreign oil is one of our nation’s greatest vulnerabilities. The United States must become the leader in efficient energy production strategies and tactics, led by the private sector. […] So while we need to make our natural resources available to Americans for generations to come, we also have to ensure that the companies and individuals entrusted with developing those resources are good stewards of the land and environment in the process.”
“[T]he amount of money we spend on securing our borders, a federal government responsibility, is a mere rounding error of the billions we have spent in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
When will someone finally get it and speak out that the pill has nothing to do with health? It doesn’t prevent any diseases and it doesn’t cure any diseases. It actually increases the chance of contacting venereal disease, whereas a condom could prevent the disease. Let us stop this war on men, and start providing them with condoms. This makes much more sense than what the Democrats and Sandra Fluke are asking for. Provide her with all the condoms she wants. And get this, pregnancy is NOT a disease!
