You survived Valentine’s Day, but my holiday is coming up in one week. I became an internationally known expert in rigid bronchoscopy in infants, children, and adults from studying sword swallowers. This is true, and I would show 100-year old black-and-white photographs of the masters, some who would “swallow” 7 swords, at lectures in Finland and on cruise ships of Hawaii and many more. Academic medicine does have its benefits, but I never took a cent from drug manufacturers (did eat their sandwiches in the OR) or equipment manufactures or lawyers, though I did review a number of malpractice law suits. I may be wild and crazy but I am not a whore when it comes to $$$$$$.
