Thanks to the fine people at the Arizona Capitol Times for bringing disgraced former Maricopa County Attorney/buddy of Joe Arpaio Andrew Thomas’ first campaign ad in his ill-advised run for governor to light.

Remember when he was fighting crime in the greater Phoenix area? There weren’t all these pesky immigrants around, with their protests and such, that’s for sure!

Also, there’s something called “The Patton Line”, aggressive thumb-pointing and a small bridge in someone’s backyard. It’s all so hilarious and weird (and frightening, in case something strange happens and he gets past the primary, ohdeargodno).

Enjoy.

  1. Why are all these Republicans running negative campaigns? Don’t they have any positive ideas? Job Growth? Education Reform? Maybe getting the economy going?

  2. I love how Christine says “No amnesty” (since she has no say so in that category), “Sending the troops to the border” (and paying them with what money?) and going to “send the bill to Obama” (which will cause a laugh before being refused).

My question after watching the GOP ads is this; considering they all say they’re going to do the federal governments job and all mention Obama, are they running for Gov. or President? If you want a good laugh take a look at the “More info” links on http://stonewalldemsaz.org/candidates.htm

  3. And people scoffed when I wrote many Republicans seem to want an Anglo cultural hegemony in AZ?

First, Huppenthal’s outrageous online comments ripped the lid off their racism now Thomas’ ad serves it to us on a silver platter.

  4. christine jones…? She is Jan Brewer with a better command of the English language. Alas, she would be another woman governor, and that is not what the Grumpy Old Putzes at the Goldwater “think tank” want to see happen. What I would like to see, is an ad with all six candidates in a clown car beeping their noses at Arizonans, saying, “you don’t need jobs do you? Because you’re out of luck… Industry doesn’t want to come to Arizona because we are a national embarrassment, and we’re almost last in spending for our future-Your Children!”

  5. I don’t know whether to hope for Scott Smith to win the primary, since he is clearly the most reasonable Republican candidate (no, it is not a COMPLETE oxymoron), or hope for some nutball like Thomas to win (to make it easier for Duvall). Well, since we don’t have open primaries, and since I know wishing and praying have no effect on the real world, I guess it doesn’t matter.

  6. This man is an idiot. There are so many of us in the state of Az that depend on Mexican tourism to make ends meet. If this man think’s for one second that you can put hate before prosperity, his full of it.

  7. Ugh, the Republicans are horrible. The Democrats aren’t much better. Can’t we elect someone with sense?

  8. Ego sure does trump logic, common sense and good taste in certain people, does it not?

  9. Holy crap. I was about to look down at my breakfast before that Mexican flag in the “no” sign slid through. Fun!

  10. These commercials clearly indicate the R candidates for governor are not thinking beyond the primary. They do not think the independent voter will remember this nonsense when the general election comes around. But they will. I am pleased at how many folks are being turned off by stupid commercials. Jones, Ducey, Thomas, et. al, take note. Go Fred Duval!

  11. It is a race to the bottom. Only the most hateful survive. Welcome to the Repub. Primary.

  12. The main reason migration has slowed down is because the USAmerican “economy” has tanked while their Communities have gotten marginally better…

Arizona Republicans have NO ability to comprehend cause and effect…

  13. For many years our current governor has been using the AzArmyNG to fly sheriff’s deputies into the Vekol Valley area just south of I~8 to do the job the fed gov’t is not doing. That is until Pinal county bought their own helicopter which they didn’t take long to stupidly crash. Of course this is into another part of Az running to the border that some here insist is more secure than ever before.
I fly out of a rural south central Az airport and if the bad guys can get the drugs there then planes will come in and transload the product and fly it all across the US. This I have seen when I’m working on my plane in the evening.
The ads make a good point about state’s rights which has slowly been eroded away by the gov’t. As an example, long before the 19th Amendment became law Az was the first state to have a woman legally vote in an election. Az may lead the way with whackos but at least we don’t keep them in the closet and even whackos have good ideas. In the case of these candidates they are pandering to the popular fears of the uninformed; and not just Republicans.
I would rather see states rights as the main issue. It may sound silly but why can’t Az administer all these federal lands? Why did we have to pay all that money to run the Grand Canyon during the sequestration when it is within the boundaries of this state?
Yes, there are far more important issues than what I have mentioned but before ANY governor can REALLY be the governor we need to scale back some of this federal gov’t intrusion into our state.
These candidates are sending generally bad messages but I suspect the Democrat messages will be similarly bad.

  14. And so, Captain America, you allowed this transferring of drugs on airport grounds to happen? Oh, yeah. You reported it. Right. This didn’t happen when you were the transportation supervisor for a certain school district…? The ‘it’s ok to take any photos of grade school students in a bus school district…?
As far as states’ rights go, there would be radiation spillage into the Colorado from mining uranium at the Grand Canyon, continued use of coal fired generating plants, stagnation of our solar energy efforts, overdevelopment and commercialization of state lands. Do you trust some of the yahoos in our legislature with our state’s natural resources and magnificent vistas? What else can happen when there are no federal guidelines-which the forefathers of America put into stone? What about hair-brained legislation like getting rid of income taxes? Can you say, f-e-d-e-r-a-l…?

  15. Nothing like a bit of mockery to enliven a Friday afternoon happy hour.
In answer to the first question, yes.
As for the school bus issue please provide evidence of the illegality of what you insist is so or move on.
State’s rights are the bedrock of our nation and to think the federal gov’t, made up of the very same flesh & blood citizens as the rest of us are any better is a mistake.
Do you take me to task for being a conservative who agrees with this article or am I wrong in my beliefs?
