Glenn Frey
When Glenn Frye and Jackson Browne co-wrote “Take It Easy” in the early ’70s, they probably had no idea that they would put Winslow, Arizona on the map— a place you have to drive through just to take your picture “standing on a corner,” and hoping a “girl in a flatbed Ford” would drive by at that exact moment. I’ve done it, and I bet if you haven’t yet, you know someone who has.
Yes, 2016 was a sad year for music as we lost some great people. Glenn Frey being one of them. Of course, he would go on to co-write a bunch of other hits for The Eagles and his solo career in the ’80s. His music has been played on rock, pop and country stations all over the world. And because it stands the test of time, it will be for some time!
We can thank our own Linda Ronstadt for giving us The Eagles, and all those years of great music. If it wasn’t for her needing a backup band in 1971, and Glenn helping put it together, we probably wouldn’t have some of the most iconic songs in rock history. I only had the luck of seeing them once up in Tempe on their 1994 Hell Freezes Over tour, and it was a hit parade. Speaking of hits, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1974) is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, and is an essential addition to any collection. But beyond the hits, he gave us so many other hidden gems that I urge you to search for and check out.

Nice article Larry!
The hipsters who have dissed Glenn Frey and his fellow Eagles can suck it. It seems that there are a lot of those fucks around since The Dude made his opinion known in The Great Lebowski. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great movie; although I think people forget that Jeff Bridges was portraying a major dumb ass…with dumb ass opinions. Glenn Frey is someone who deserves respect because unlike the current crop of #1 hit music “artists”, this actual musician (not to mention the other Eagles band members, especially Joe Fucking Walsh) could actually record music without needing a producer/fixer/bullshitter to get his/their art to the people.
Thank you for this article highlighting a very talented and versatile musician. But please, do all of your KLPX listeners a yuuge (yes, I’m channeling my inner Orange Emperor) favour and diversify the Glenn Frey/Eagles songs which y’all are currently playing and have been playing since 1979. Shit, throw Glenn’s “Partytown” song back into your music mix; I remember hearing it an awful lot on KLPX and KWFM back in 1982.
I am a fan of Eagles, but the moment I hear “Hotel California” (ugh!)…I do not hesitate to turn the the music way down, change the station or turn the radio off. I’ve heard this song enough to last me 100 lifetimes. Take this opinion into consideration when resetting the KLPX programming. No disrespect intended, just the opinion of me and my family, friends, coworkers and random fans of good music.
Thank you again, I truly mean it!
Sincerely, DC
I got to see a show in the Phoenix area back in the day that had the Eagles opening, followed by Jackson Browne and headlined by Linda Ronstadt!
